In response to the subs question, if a celebi passes to a charizard, waterfall would be supereffective. subs are just placeholders in terms of HP. everything else goes by the pokemon behind it. and also, newly caught pokemon can have their IVs checked easily...

could someone point me to a good (or extensive) guide to pokemon contests? i seem to be having trouble with the whole..dressing up part.

I am pretty sure that if you psych up a stat, it will use the modifier that the opponent has. for example, if you had -2 in speed for whatever reason, and you psych up on a pokemon with no negative modifiers, you would end up with 0 modifiers in speed. someone correct me if i'm wrong.
