Personally, I see car ownership in two phases: one when you're single and one when you're married/with a partner. In the single phase, your car should be a mix of utility based on where you live and some level of class. When you're married, you most likely would have two cars. I'd use one for utility (some crossover or whatever) and one for appearance.
Thus, according to my philosophy, you're better off buying a used Lexus than a new Honda civic if you're single.
