Ubers Player Spotlight - #6
Ubers Player Spotlight is the place where I interview notable and respected players from Ubers, the tier where the fiercest monsters combat and exert apocalyptic force. People I choose to interview are the elite players who excel at taming the strongest monsters and have been consistent throughout tournaments and is well respected by the community.
I am open to suggestions (DMDW#8155) about the players that can be interviewed, but please keep in mind that suggested players are subjects to review by me and Ubers moderation team. With that out of the way...
Spotlight #6:
Most Known For:
Missing Precipice Blades. Other minor things include winning the SM kickoff tour, getting to R11 of the Winter Seasonal and being a former QC member. Though most proud of winning MUTE with my buddies Mysterious M Not Troller Serga and 0kay.
Favorite Pokémon:
My favorite Pokemon would be Deoxys (though specifically Deoxys-Attack). I loved its ability to shift between multiple formes. It also hits extremely hard and I believe it's pretty underrated.
Overview:
I'm 17 years old and a rising HS senior living in Washington. Outside of mons I enjoy reading and working out and plan to go into the military after college.
What is your name's origin?
Dominatio isn't actually the first username I used on this site but I stuck with it after finding the term in a book on Roman politics we were reading in class. I thought it sounded cool and apparently it means domination in English, who would've known.
What made you start playing Pokémon?
I never actually played any of the cartridge games, but when I was in 7th grade I stumbled across an online RPG called Pokemon Omega. Sadly it got shut down by Nintendo due to the release of ORAS and I looked around for something else to play and landed on
What inspired you to play Ubers?
My first forum tournament was called BLT and was hosted by the tournaments room. Basically you qualified by winning tournaments in the room which sounds about as cancerous as it was. Anyway I didn't have a specific main yet and my manager wanted me to play Ubers so I had to learn the tier as best I could.
What is your favorite generation of Ubers?
BW. I can't exactly say why but it's always been very fun to play compared to other generations.
What is your favorite playstyle?
HO for sure because of its fast-paced nature. I don't have the patience for stall and you have to worry too much about covering various threats with balance or BO.
What is your opinion on Gothitelle & Gothorita suspect?
Goth is neither broken nor uncompetitive but it is unhealthy because of how it restricts certain builds. I definitely wanted it gone but apparently most people didn't so its w/e
Are there any elements of the metagame that you deem unhealthy?
As mentioned before, Gothitelle, but also Geomancy. No matter how the meta shifts it still remains a dangerous threat that greatly reduces the viability of threats such as Palkia, Rayquaza, and other offensive Dragon-types. With more of these in play I feel like Primal Groudon would also be easier for teams to check offensively. Z Geomancy is also just broken.
What is your the most memorable game of Ubers?
(Replay could not be found so check hidebox for gamelogs. I managed to download the replay but I couldn't upload the file for some reason.)
Astounded's team: Shuckle / Landorus-Therian / Groudon / Lucario / Xerneas / Arceus-*
sylveonsammy43's team: Venusaur / Keldeo / Skarmory / Chansey / Heatran / Bisharp

Sorry Astounded I love you bro but this was absolutely hilarious. No shame though any player with this matchup would've lost.
Congratulations for winning second place in UPL VI with Luminous Lunalas! How was your experience in this UPL?
I had an amazing experience this UPL. Arii Stella was about as great a manager you could hope for even though she got heated sometimes. We all worked together really well to help each other with teambuilding and testing and I got to know some great players like Holy Break, Alex Walls, Poek, Highlord, and SGR.
What new users or players in Ubers do you look up to?
Level 56 for being a boss at the game in general and hyw for all the help and old gens advice he gave us during UPL.
What are your advices for new players getting into Ubers?
People like to diss the ladder but it's a great place to learn the tier because you can get a ton of games in a short amount of time. There's a reason many prominent players started out on the ladder so just grab a sample or build a team and start playing. Don't care about your ranking because that's how people go mad.
Would you provide us with a team and add a brief description?
I built this team to use vs Evuelf during week 2 of UPL expecting him to bring stall but it did better vs other matchups than I initially expected such as balance and even offense if you play it right. It has a Deoxys-A bc I just slap it on 90% of my teams and Psyshock was used to deal w blobs and occasionally Ho-oh/Magearna but Dark Pulse can work too. Marshadow is generally pretty deadly for stall and the dual defog helps keep rocks off while Giratina helps with the stall matchup. Fairyceus deals with Dark-types and Fire Blast is there bc too many people think steel-types are good switchins to this.
