Ubers in da Sun (Ranked top 600 in 16 battles)

Preface: I wasn't having too much luck in OU so I decided to try my hand at Ubers since the metagame is much more confined, I can plan my counters accordingly since there is less to deal with. I decided to go with a sun based team with a ho-oh focus since the last time I used to play Ubers I was wrecked by a physical ho-oh and awed at its power. So here is my RMT, pictures will be added as I go, I'm going to upload text first so I can get some suggestions sooner.
I haven't had many problems with this team, honestly the exact opposite. I've only really lost to missplays and sandveil hacks so far.

Lead

Groudon @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

Groudon is my physical wall and lead for this sun team. Stealth rocks is always useful no matter what situation and when using Groudon as a wall I usually get a chance to set them up. T-wave is useful for dragons locked into outrage or predicting a switch. Earthquake is there for for STAB and the MVP of this moveset I find is actually Dragon Tail. I find myself using dragon tail so much more then earthquake I wonder if I should switch EQ out for something else. Its ability to switch pokes racks up SR damage and can force powerful physical attackers out as long as I can survive a hit which with the EV set up and natural bulk I normally can.

Ho-Oh @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- Sacred Fire
- Earthquake
- Roost

My all out physical attacker and overall monster. If the opponent doesn't have Kyogre I can normally take out half of their team at least. Brave bird with the EV's allows me to take out kyogre from about 80% if I remember correctly. Sacred Fire is my stab in the sun and demolishes everything it touches, and the 50% burn always helps. EQ is for another powerful attack in the rain if I don't want recoil from BB and for any pokes that would resist my other stabs. Roost gives me more surviveability. I can roost on a switch or if I am in a psuedo stall war. Overall Ho-oh is my most powerful attacker.

Arceus-Ghost @ Spooky Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- ExtremeSpeed
- Shadow Force
- Brick Break

My second physical attacker. Everyone in Ubers knows the power that Arceus has and I felt it would be stupid if I did not take advantage of it. I chose Arceus ghost because it gave immunity to normal Arceus's Extreme speed which is a huge problem as well as a needed fight resist. SD gives me a huge boost and allows ES to take out stragglers near the end of the match. Without dancing Arceus is so so, but with it he is an absolute monster. Brick break is there for a fighting stab against dark types, in particular tyrantiar.

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Toxic

Oh you annoying little sh*t. Chansey is the best special wall int he game bar none. My kyogre switch in every time, she shrugs off water spouts and hydro pumps with ease. Wish/Protect allows chansey to heal herself and pass wishes to Groudon and Ho-oh who often need it most. Heal bell is important for the prevalent status's in ubers while toxic allows me to outstall kyogre and toxic any non-steel switch ins.

Reshiram @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Turboblaze
EVs: 16 HP / 252 SAtk / 240 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Blue Flare
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower

Reshiram is my less-used special attacker and the most easily replaced member of this team. I needed a special attacker with a bunch of power and he fit the bill. Draco meteor and Blue flare are hideously powerful, flare especially in the sun. I chose to go dual stab for all 4 moves, flamethrower and dragon pulse so I could get perfect accuracy if I'm taking out a poke with low HP and I cant afford a miss. If I do replace reshiram though I lack a dragon stab which I need to replace somewhere else.

Shaymin-S @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Air Slash
- Seed Flare
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earth Power

Shaymin-S is my cleanup specialist and all important grass stab. Seed Flare is very powerful and takes out a ton of pokes. Air slash is for stab and for when I need to try and hax someone to death. HP-ice is useful for taking out dragons who have DD'd up and Earth power is more or less just another special attack that gives coverage.

Overall this team has been treating me really well. I haven't had too many problems with any pokes or teams in particular, hax is the only thing that gives me the occasional loss. I'm more or less looking for changes to EV spreads or a possible replacement for reshiram. Thanks for your help.

Hey, I like the team. Sun teams are normally hyper-offensive but I like that you have Chansey for a bit more balance.

My thoughts:

It's really hard to run a sun team without a spinner or something to keep stealth rock off the field.

Example: Opposing lead sets up stealth rock. Later, Ho-oh is switched in. Takes 50% damage Their Extremekiller Arceus comes in. Ho-oh switches out so he doesn't die from the Extremespeed, but dies from SR later anyway. You are down your main attacker.

Now, you can fix this either by using a fast taunt lead like Mewtwo or Deoxys-S to stop SR or employing a spinner (Tentacruel with Hidden Power Grass might be good to help stop Kyogre). I'm not sure how that could fit into your team well, but it's definitely worth consideration.

And Fusion Flare has a bit more power for Resharim than Flamethrower while still giving 100% Accuracy.
On another note, if you want to replace Resharim and are finding yourself without a counter for Kyogre, or even if you only want some more type diversity, a choice scarf Palkia could be a good choice:

The Dragon (Palkia) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Spacial Rend (STAB)
- Focus Blast/Aura Sphere/Draco Meteor (The first two are to kill Dialga)
- Thunder (To kill Kyogre)
- Fire Blast (Powerful attack in the sun)

Thanks for the reply,

With regards to stealth rocks, normally I can predict when the opponent is going to set them up so I send ho-oh in then before they can take effect. This is typically early enough so that I can get a brave bird off on the kyogre switch in if it is there and then 2HKO or if not then just get heavy damage on anything that does come in. If I do need to switch normally I try and roost up or get it to where I can wish pass to ho-oh but by that time he usually takes out 1-2 pokes and has done his job.

With regards to palkia, I like that setup, I'll give it a try and see how it works out.

you need a spinner like the guy above said. Also make ho-oh hp iv to 0 since your running pressure
Sorry. Can't understand.

Also you are missing 4 EVs on all of your mons, you can distribute the last point into a different stat. e.g. for Groudon you run 252 HP/252 Defense, but you still have 6 EVs left, and you can use 4 EVs for 1 more point in say, Attack.

Well, Im in the same boat as you, I suck at OU but I'm a pretty good ubers battler and I also run a sun team, I dont think you need a scarf on saymin s, hes faster than everything besides other scarfers and mewtwo and you already have reshiram. For HO-OH, you should either run a much bulkier set with 232 evs in hp instead of speed. If you want a really offensive hooh, switch out earthquake for flame charge, this essentially gives him a scarf so you will flame charge on the switch and most likely be faster than anything that comes in and rape face with bb and sacred fire. The only other thing you MIGHT want to consider is having an actual attack on chansey, stoss or icebeam or flamethrower because youre in the sun, just so you dont become worthless if someone is running taunt as lots of people think thundurus is now viable in ubers, also you might want some physical defense on chansey so she doesnt die to any given outrage or extremespeed. Overheat on Arceus is also worth consideration just because youre in the sun. Hope this helped, heres my team http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3452432. Good luck!

Thirding or fourthing the use of a spinner. If you've got 3 or more pokes who take SE damage from rocks, you definitely need a spinner, or at least a reliable way to prevent rocks up.

On Sun teams, SB Blaziken is amazing. I might suggest swapping him in for either Arceus-Ghost (you have Groudon to take other Arceus), Reshiram, or Skymin (why 2 scarfers?). Now that I think about it, SB Blaziken can act like a Scarfer, so it would be better to switch him in for Reshiram or Skymin. You also have no Dragon-resist. If Groudon goes down, some Outrage-r is going to sweep you. I suggest adding in a Forretress to A.) spin away rocks, B.) provide a Dragon resist, and C.) wall Arceus without Overheat (you can give your Forretress Toxic to beat Arceus).

Well I've said my piece. Good luck with the team and have a sunny day (see what I did there?)!

0 hp iv for ho-oh? that doesn't even make sense...

But I agree with the Chansey Evs. She's already incredibly bulky specially, so give her 252 Def EVs and a (+Def, -Att) nature. This makes her take physical hits better than Swampert while still taking special hits better than blissey :O

Sorry. Can't understand.

Also you are missing 4 EVs on all of your mons, you can distribute the last point into a different stat. e.g. for Groudon you run 252 HP/252 Defense, but you still have 6 EVs left, and you can use 4 EVs for 1 more point in say, Attack.
So you can switch into SR twice

skymin is so-so really in ubers, i would suggest taking it out for specially defensive tentacruel for spinning and pseudo special wall. It can take 3 water spouts from kyogre while in the rain thanks to leftovers and rain dish, and amazing bulk. It can spin and set toxic spikes while possibly forcing a switch. You can switch out reshiram if you like, but i used a very similar team, and reshiram in the sun late game can sweep like a beast. It can 2hko most threats that jump in its fun, something skymin can't do.

Choice Scarf Skymin is actually a fairly scary lead. Faster than the Deo Forms and Flinch Hax STAB Air Slash. It's a pressure strategy.

You are absolutely destroyed by Choice Specs Kyogre. Nothing you have can take a Water Spout save for Chansey, who is outsped and 2HKO'ed. What I'd suggest is replacing Reshiram with Choice Scarf Palkia:

Palkia @ Choice Scarf
Pressure
Timid / Hasty 0/4/0/252/0/252
- Draco Meteor
- Thunder
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge / Outrage

Draco Meteor and Fire Blast should be pretty self-explanatory. Thunder is necessary for dealing with Kyogre. Stone Edge helps to deal with Ho-Oh, who you may struggle with, while Outrage helps against CM Mewtwo.

Secondly I would suggest replacing Shaymin-S with Forretress, who provides you with Rapid Spin and some needed entry hazard support, as well as a Dragon-type resist.

Forretress @ Leftovers
Sturdy
Sassy 252/0/4/0/252/0
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball / Toxic Spikes
- Toxic

Toxic for hitting the Giratina-O switch-in. Spikes will help you wear down the opposition while Rapid Spin should keep Ho-Oh and the rest of your team from taking too much residual damage. Gyro Ball is an option for hitting things like Giratina-O, Arceus, and Mewtwo if Sturdy hasn't been broken yet.

Good luck.
