[SET]
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Name: Choice Band (Rock)
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Fire Punch / Earthquake
[SET NOTES]
Choice Band Tyranitar is the premier physical wallbreaker on Rock teams with its massive base 134 Attack stat and its access to Pursuit allowing it to revenge kill Gholdengo, Latias, and Hisuian Zoroark. Stone Edge deals huge damage to key Pokemon that Rock-types struggle with such as Corviknight, Celesteela, and Mega Venusaur. Knock Off means that Pokemon such as Gholdengo and Slowbro have to be careful when facing Tyranitar, along with removing valuable items from Toxapex and Empoleon. Fire Punch OHKOes the likes of Mega Scizor and Ferrothorn, both of which are threats to Rock teams. Earthquake helps with the Steel, Poison, and Rock mirror matchups by hitting Heatran, Clodsire, and Garganacl with a lot of power. Heavy Slam is also worth mentioning, as it can OHKO the likes of Tapu Bulu and Clefable and helps the Fairy matchup a tremendous amount. Ice Punch is an alternative as well, as it threatens to OHKO foes such as Landorus and Gliscor. Additionally, Tyranitar is able to set up sand, aiding teammates such as Garganacl, Cradilly, and Nihilego with a Special Defense boost. A Jolly nature allows Tyranitar to outspeed Choice Specs Iron Valiant outside of Electric Terrain and Mega Diancie while Sticky Web is up and OHKO both with Heavy Slam. This does, however, cause a loss of power, making the Steel and Poison matchups much harder by not 2HKOing Corviknight and Mega Venusaur with Stone Edge.
Shuckle can set up Sticky Web, which allows Tyranitar to outspeed threats such as Gholdengo and Nidoking. Mega Diancie is a great special wallbreaker that Tyranitar needs on its team to deal with the Fighting-types that threaten it such as Kommo-o and Great Tusk. Cradily gives Tyranitar a switch-in to Ground-type moves that can reliably take hits and proceed to use Recover to maintain its health while also setting up Stealth Rock. Choice Scarf Terrakion pairs amazingly with Tyranitar by taking the physical wallbreaking load off of Tyranitar and splitting it between the two powerhouses. Terrakion is able to revenge kill Mega Lopunny while also benefitting from Tyranitar's Pursuit trapping ability. As a wall, Garganacl appreciates Tyranitar removing Leftovers from Pokemon such as Hippowdon and Ting-Lu. Ogerpon-C creates additional pressure in the Ground and Water matchups, complementing Tyranitar's power with great coverage. Nihilego helps with Tyranitar's weakness to Fairy-types, providing great Special Defense in sand, as well as Poison coverage. Although Tyranitar has great bulk, Rhyperior and Omastar are better checks to Scizor, a huge threat to the Rock type. Rhyperior's great bulk and ability allow it to beat Scizor, while Omastar's neutrality to Steel-type moves allows it to beat Scizor one-on-one.
