It's been linked in the OP this whole time.
I’m not very familiar with Reel Big Fish. Or with ska. Operation Ivy kinda turned me off ska, tbh. I should probably try to branch out into more ska artists, but the lyrics are kinda missing the mark with me, making me think this song isn’t really the place to start.
Aren’t these the guys who had to cancel a concert because of birdshit? I mean like birds were literally shitting on them when they tried to play. I cbf to find anything I could like about this song because I’m too busy trying to stop thinking about birdshit.
The intro is neat. But then the lyrics start and the impression it makes on me is minimal. I like the female singer’s voice, I just wish she had more to sing about.
Not sure if I like this or not. Not sure how many relistens it would take to decide.
The movie was good but imo stage > movie. This song is a prime example of that. The camaraderie of the song is a bit more muted here, whereas the various stage versions show two newfound partners gleefully hamming it up over a battleplan formed from Lovett’s attempt to cheer up the despondent Todd. This song is a linchpin for the plot and while the movie does it good, the stage versions do it better.
Why did I think this was a heavy metal song before I listened to it? Where was my head at...
Hmm. I like the guitar, but the vocals and lyrics aren’t tripping my trigger all that much.
I can see why this would get massively overplayed like Fort said. It’s pretty catchy.
Hmm, this is interesting. At points, it seems as much a poem as it does a song.
These guys harmonize well. I’m adding this to my To Pandora list just because of the creative use of metaphor.
Kinda coming full circle in getting songs that would’ve fit well in Pump Me Up. This is full of confidence and I can’t help but feel good grooving to it.
Is this a love song or a scary song? Do I even care when it’s so freaking neat?
This song is really catchy once the sound effects are over.
Most people like this song just for the chorus, which can often be heard belted it out in the shower or car by the kind of people who wish they owned a karaoke machine so they could just turn it on and belt out the chorus of It’s My Life whenever they want. I think enjoying this song as a whole is ideal, since those belters are missing out.
I can’t help but smile listening to this song. Bouncy, energetic, and feelgood.
I love this song and would have gladly accepted it for Pump Me Up. It turns a serious topic into a barnstomper of a song. Hum, sing, clap, or dance along, the energy in this song can’t be denied.
Dammit, Blodds.
Like my young friend, I have recent history with this song. Bloody introduced me to it when I became the official bot wrangler of the FGF Discord server, and it became an unofficial theme song for me as I would set up queues on Erisbot. The driving beat, the lilting melody, the relevant lyrics… I can’t really say it’s pandering, because S3RL is one of his favorite artists.
Hey, yeah. This gets me bouncing in my seat.
What really got me hooked on Billy Talent is Kowalewicz’s voice. The closest you could compare his sound to anyone else’s is that it’s just a tiny bit reminiscent of Jello Biafra. Or maybe that’s just me. Kowalewicz knows how to draw on his unique voice to get you interested in the lyrics, which are themselves interesting. And that sweet guitar certainly isn’t hurting anything.
This is also my brother’s high school jam. And what a jam it is.
And now you’ve got me wondering what you were like in your school years. Can’t say I’m complaining, though, far from it. The only thing I want to complain about is the uploader tacked part of a different song into their credits scroll. Even so, that’s not enough to make me stop rocking out.
