Tabunne

Tabunne

[Overview]
  • Bad stats on offense, defense is usable
  • great support movepool
  • chansey/blissey/clefable outclass it mostly
  • regeneration

[SET]
name: Support
move 1: wish
move 2: protect
move 3: heal bell / encore
move 4: toxic / return / encore
item: Leftovers
ability: Regeneration
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP/ 252 Def / 4 SpD

*note that wish+encore+heal bell are in fact legal together, as a clefable can learn wish and encore, and get heal bell as a HG/SS tutor move

Set comments:

  • Utilizes support options to the fullest
  • Decent 410 HP and 298 Def
  • Wish is used to heal teammates, and protect lets it heal itself as well as scout the opponent’s move
  • Encore and heal bell are both support options
  • Return to make sure yo aren’t taunt bait
  • toxic lets you poison an opponent

Additional Comments:
  • Needs to choose which defense to work with, not bulky enough to utilize both
  • Can be specially defensive, at which point using a Calm nature and a different attacking move, such as shadow ball, is advisable to hit ghosts like Gengar and Shandera
  • You may forgo using protect and opt to heal solely using regeneration

teammates and counters:

  • Team mates include ghost types to absorb fighting attacks, such as Desukaan, Giratina, and Shandera
  • Xatu and Shinbora are great teammates when running a physically defensive spread, to absorb fighting attacks while for you, while Hippowdon and Skarmory are good teammates for specially defensive spreads
  • Specially defensive spreads are easily trapped by pursuit users like Scizor and Tyranitar
  • Pokemon with tanut stop it, particularly skarmory, tyranitar, and gyarados. The former to have good bulk and resist normal, the latter has intimidate. All of them can set up in its face.

[SET]
name: Dual Screen
move 1: Reflect
move 2: Light Screen
move 3: Healing Wish
move 4: Toxic / Return
item: Light Clay
ability: Regeneration
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP/ 88 Def / 168 SpD

Set comments:

  • Decent bulk and healing wish allow it to be a good dual screen user
  • Allows frail pokemon to sweep without being killed easily
  • Healing wish lets a heavily damaged pokemon come in and try to sweep again
  • Toxic lets it get other pokemon statuses, whereas return lets you do some direct damage, albeit not much.

Additional Comments:
  • EVs give it 410 HP, 253 Defense, and 250 special defense.
  • Another support move may be used, as may a different attacking move
  • Leftovers may be used to regain health, but light clay gives your sweepers three more turns of bulk
  • Wish, yawn, and heal bell are all illegal with Healing Wish

teammates and counters:

  • Mostly frailer sweepers such as Infernape, Shandera, Ononokusu, Rampardos, Alakazam, and Deoxys-a all benefit greatly from screens.
  • Lugia, crobat, and xatu are great teammates for its 4x fighting resist and great bulk, as well as its special attacking stat
  • Anything with Brick Break breaks the screens. Scizor gets a mention for KOing most of the mentioned team mates with bullet punch.

[Team Options]
  • Tabunne needs someone to absorb certain attacks for it. Giratina, Lugia, and Desukaan all do well in absorbing attacks it cant take.
  • Something to get rid of fighting types is needed, so Shandera and Alakazam are both very nice teammates
  • Entry Hazards are beneficial, to itself and its teammates, so a Pokemon like Froslass can come in on fighting moves and set up spikes

[Optional Changes]
  • Tabunne learns Trick Room and can set it up rather well. Along with its very low speed and Healing Wish, it makes a very good mid game Set Up pokemon. Tabunne also learns rain dance and sunny day, but there are better user of that.
  • It has access to simple beam, which lets it get rid of a pokemon’s ability, which some pokemon, like Doryuuzu, rely on.
  • Tabunne also has numerous ways of confusing the enemy, such as swagger and sweet kiss
  • thunder wave isnt mentioned but can work in most places if your team needs it.

[Counters]
  • Fighting types easily kill Tabunne
  • Anything with taunt stops it unless it carries an attacking move, at which point it will do pitiful damage anyways.
  • pursuit users for special sets
  • brick break users for the Screen set

[Dream World]
  • Klutz tends to be a rather useless ability, particularly without trick, although it does have gift pass
  • Regeneration is almost always better

[SET]

  • Return to make sure you aren’t taunt bait (Why does it matter if you are Taunt-bait or not if you can barely even do anything with your only attacking move?)
--Surprised Toxic isn't mentioned at all

Additional Comments:
  • Needs to choose which defense to work with, not bulky enough to utilize both
  • Can be specially defensive, at which point using a Calm nature and a different attacking move, such as ice beam, is advisable to hit ghosts like Gengar and Shandera (Shandera resists ice beam--Perhaps you mean Shadow Ball, but it won't be doing much to them anyway with 60 base SpA)
  • You may forgo using protect and opt to heal solely using regeneration

teammates and counters:

  • Team mates include ghost types to absorb fighting attacks, such as Desukaan, Giratina, and Shandera
  • Lugia and Shinbora are great teammates when running a physically defensive spread, to absorb fighting attacks while for you, while Hippowdon and Skarmory are good teammates for specially defensive spreads
  • Specially defensive spreads are easily trapped by pursuit users like Scizor and Tyranitar
  • Physical sets are burned alive by Shandera

[SET]

move 2: Light Screen
move 3: Healing Wish
move 4: Return`
item: Light Clay

Set comments:

  • Decent bulk and healing wish allow it to be a good dual screen user
  • Allows frail pokemon to sweep without being killed easily
  • Healing wish lets a heavily damaged pokemon come in and try to sweep again
  • Return for STAB and to avoid being taunt bait (Again, with 60 base Atk I doubt it matters either way--you're better off having another support option)

Additional Comments:
  • EVs give it 410 HP, 253 Defense, and 250 special defense.
  • Another support move may be used, as may a different attacking move
  • Leftovers may be used to regain health, but light clay gives your sweepers three more turns of bulk

[Optional Changes]
  • Tabunne learns Trick Room and can set it up rather well. Along with its very low speed and Healing Wish, it makes a very good mid game Set Up pokemon (Deserves its own set--has Regeneration and Healing Wish, which is awesome)
  • It has access to simple beam, which lets it get rid of a pokemon’s ability, which some pokemon, like Doryuuzu, rely on (Great now Doryuuzu has +4 Atk instead of +2 lol)
  • Tabunne also has numerous ways of confusing the enemy, such as swagger and sweet kiss

[Counters]
  • Fighting types easily kill Tabunne
  • Shandera can set up on it unless it carries simple beam (Shandera is immune to Simple Beam+ Simple Beam helps it set up) or and attacking move not named return
  • pursuit users for special sets
  • brick break users for the Screen set

[Dream World]
  • Klutz tends to be a rather useless ability, particularly without trick, although it does have gift pass
  • Regeneration is almost always better

I didn't know I had permission to post in Level 100...

Anyways, I'm skeptical about Return on the Tabunne sets. Since the purpose of that set is to "support" and throw the turbulence of the battle in your favor, Return, rather, is easily set up on and the damage can easily be recovered in the case of Latias, Suicune, and friends. Upon using it in battle, it actually slows down your team's momentum rather than the opponent's.

In this case, I'd rather use Thunder Wave, Toxic, Yawn, or Trick Room in some slots. If status haling or protect is not needed, then any of those options are available. Yawn is best used with Trick Room.

You have a point about attacking moves, and I completely forgot that st shamdera hasn't been released yet so I'll take that stuff out. I'll make some changes when my mom comes home and I can use a computer instead of my iPod.

Also, do you think I should add a TR set? Or is it fine in oc

edit: everything is edited in. Thoughts?
