Heyy I know this is like.. 1 hour before the draft but I really think a post like this should still have been made for PU players so just going to drop some quick thoughts on some PU mainers who should be given a shot this SCL!

Should Be Obvious Starters

DugZa / Shaneghoul / gum - all three of these players have far proven their worth in their abilities to start for PU this SCL and I think it is a no brainer that they should be given opportunities to be starters. They know PU by the back of their hand and have been driving forces in setting metagame trends and adapting to the tier that has been everchanging so far

zS / Chloe / Askov / Danny - most if these players are well known in the tournament community by now and I'm including them in this section as all of them can viably also be picked to play other tiers as well. I want to shoutout Chloe in particular as she somehow went undrafted last year for legit no reason when she is one of the best PU mainers there is currently. She absolutely should be picked up this year as she's a great builder, adapts to the metagame well, and I believe has grown exponentially in play skill throughout the past year as well (her WCOP showing proves this!)

Players that might not be ready to start but should still be bought for support

asa / ishtar / fish anemometer - all three of these players are relatively new to the tournament scene but all deserved to be bought as support/as a builder for this SCL. They all are extremely dedicated to the tier and have insight into metagame trends before literally anyone else. They are definitely worth picking up for cheap!

Would also just like to mention that PU is gonna be screwed over with drops/bans/rises from DLC/home more than any other tier throughout the entirety of SCL. Therefore, I think picking up these PU mainers, even for support, will do you more good than relying on tour players alone to adjust to the legit weekly changes that the tier will undergo. These players have been playing the tier throughout the generation and know how to adjust to the frequent metagame adaptions more than anyone else so they will be better suited in figuring out what teams/cores/Pokemon are viable or not. We didn’t see many PU players get picked up last year and it left the tier to progress to a quite terrible metagame and I think it’d be a waste if that happened again this year

Good morning everyone! SCL avatars got uploaded yesterday and I once again had the privilege of working on some of them!

I would like to thank sharpclaw, Brumirage, Altthiel, deetah, Irpachuza and kyledove for helping teams get their avatars done, quality checking everything and contributing so much to this edition's avatars.

Here are the avatars I worked on!

Circuit Breakers

sharpclaw and I worked on this brand new Melmetal sprite for the Breakers - it took much longer than expected and I struggled a lot with the arms, shoutouts sharpie for helping me out a lot with those! Hope the Breakers are happy with their avatars despite us sending the Melmetal sprite kinda last minute.

Mt. Silver Foxes

I put together the Foxes' avatars using kyledove's insane Fire-type Miku avatar, and Brumi's Bede trainer sprite. Thanks for allowing the use of your sprites!

Orange Islanders

I remade the Smogon Sprites project Exeggutor-Alola sprite so it fits the 80x80 frame of custom avatars, I also added the lil tie on Eggy for the male avatar, and deetah & sharp_claw worked on the colors & composition.

Showdown Shoguns

Put this avatar together using kyledove's Masters Swimmer sprite & conyjams' Toxapex sprite.

Uncharted Terrors

Once again used one of Kyledove's great Miku avatars, this one being the Water-type one.

Studio Gible

I made the painting Gible sprite p much from scratch! Very happy with the result, here's the reference picture I used for the painting itself (and ye it's the landscape from Howl's Moving Castle).
Very proud of this one, my teammate let me go crazy with it and it's definitely one of my favorite sprites I ever made.

As Clementine said above, huge shout-outs to the entire spriting team for this year's SCL year; our process gets more and more streamlined and our work gets better and better as we can all collaborate and support each other. Clem, Brumirage, Irpachuza, deetah, kyledove, Altthiel, and Kalalokki to oversee the whole opperation—what a team.

Circuit Breakers

As Clem said above, we worked on this Melmetal together; I just want to share it clean, sans trainers, so everyone can see Clem's glorious shading work (and the arms, which are mine).

Power Plant Dynamos

Working off conyjam's excellent Gapdos sprite, plus the dynamic edits Brumi made last year for the Elesa sprite, I made a couple small changes to Volkner here. Him >:(

Technical Machines

These are both gorgeous Brumi originals, which I recolored to pair better with Mew and give them a bit more pop.

Uncharted Terrors

I'm a big fan of sprites that keep the proportions between Pokemon and trainers correct (also More Big Pokemon Please, Why Is Tyranitar So Small, Hariyama Is Appropriately Big And I Love Him For It)—so giving the Gen 3 Blue sprite his PKM outfit here was very satisfying.

Can't go wrong with appreciating our amazing sprite artists for the third post in a row right??

I had the great honor and pleasure of being able to contribute a bit to this year's SCL avatars; my first team tour that I've been able to contribute spritework to. Extremely blessed to work alongside such amazing artists (Brumirage, Clementine, sharpclaw, Irpachuza, Altthiel, kyledove, and Kalalokki) and I'm really looking forward to being able to contribute more again in the future!

Orange Islanders

This avatar was really the only one I got the chance to work on, I spent a lot of the time observing the process and getting a feel for it. Edited the pose of kyledove's dancer sprite and gave Alolan Eggy a fashionable wreath.. he's looking very tropical indeed!

It's been said by probably everyone on my team already but I'd like to give an enormous shoutout to Taka.

Never had a teammate with such enthusiasm, positivity and sociability. Taka was a huge reason we glued and was key in making it so our losses didn't sting as bad (and that was important because we lost a lot). His willingness to just dive in and help out even in tiers he was less familiar with was unmatched, would straight up give me hours of test games whether it was OU or UU, and he even kept this up after we were out of contention. I beg future managers to always get him, he is absolutely incredible.

Of course the rest of yall were wonderful too Spartans, we flopped as hell but I enjoyed our team vibe a ton and think we could've gone the distance in another timeline. Thanks to everyone for putting in the effort.

I only wish these issues had to come to light when I was still in time to do something about them, rather than making me learn about them this way - I suppose in part it is my fault that this happened, though

There was a lot of excellence in our team and I hope that when the storms clear this team will be remembered for those players and helpers above all, many people's efforts in our team were worth celebrating and I'm sad that they were let down

Striding away from the shiposts on the other thread to comment on this, but that's not the reason why Smogon is dying. Malekith said what he wanted to say and you can be the first one to contest his truth. The real reason this site is dying, saying this as a nobody in the tournament scene (check CBB's signature!) and who just plays and watches the game for fun now (I know that Pokemon as "fun" is not a familiar concept to most of you), is because the same people are allowed to take positions of power in the same tournaments all the time. This is a gaming community. People grow the fuck up, people stop playing after a while because the game gets tiresome, because the people who played with them stopped playing, because they have better things to do in real life. Then why are people who haven't had real agency in the game for ages, who haven't logged into Showdown for a ladder game for months, still getting drafted, or sometimes even managing teams? Remember when everyone knew the Tigers were shadow-managed by Gama, because they were managed by two people who weren't even active in the community? Yeah.

And I have nothing against drafting a McMeghan for UU because some people think that would take away the possibility for a UU main to have the spotlight (also helps that there aren't many elite UU mains now), or against drafting a teal6 for moral support when some people think there could be a newcomer who would probably give more effort in prep instead of complaining about Manchester City. These people, even though they've been around forever, still enjoy the community, still enjoy the game, still enjoy being around. What I am against is drafting that oldgen player who everyone knows isn't gonna be active in chat, is gonna int every game, and will get drafted next tour again because why give the RoA/Lower Tier tours grinder a chance? I'm against drafting that one player who you know is gonna get banned because they can't shut up and act like a normal person, be that in game or in Disc servers. I'm against giving that manager pairing a team because they were there last year and happen to yap a fuckton on Discord servers about how they hate minorities.

People who want to get into the tournament scene don't give a fuck about a teammate complaining about the other one. If they feel like it's justified, why not? And also, it's really shambolic that you, a player involved in the tournament community, is saying that an established tournament player trashtalking another established tournament player, in a private Discord server (which means you are the one who brought the private conversation to the public domain), is somehow scaring the people who don't even get a chance in the community. Now imagine if they got a chance instead of the person who cancered the tour week 2 and just got ratioed while I was writing this?

So yeah, Smogon isn't dying because of mere trashtalking. That's actually what made Smogon what it is today. Smogon is dying because it shot itself in the foot and is bleeding out. Tournaments having the same groups of players and managers who don't care about the game, being infested by some players who everyone knows are chasers, racists, transphobes, nazis, harassers and pedos who people pretend did nothing because they are too afraid the community will die if they are banned. It's actually funny because by just reading these words you are immediately gonna associate them to a Smogon user who's still around. That's how fucked up it is. Y'all don't want more people to actually play the game because you don't care about that. You just want a reason to complain.

We came up short in our play-off race but I still consider this SCL to be the most fun experience I've had on the site in some time.
