Moltres
QC approvals: PK Gaming, Oglemi, Snunch
[Set]
name: SubRoost Staller
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Roost
move 3: Toxic / Will-o-Wisp
move 4: Flamethrower / Air Slash
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
[Set Comments]

Once you look past Moltres' Rock-type weakness, you're bound to notice that it has a good defensive typing for the most part, decent bulk, and the ability Pressure which improves its stalling power. Toxic and Will-o-Wisp are two moves that work similarly, Will-o-Wisp is best suited for crippling physical attackers like Rampardos and Azumarill, while Toxic will drain HP faster, but won't help Moltres tank physical hits. If you're using Will-o-Wisp, Air Slash is the superior option, so as to not be walled by Flash Fire Pokemon. This set is best at stalling out Pokemon that use low PP, such as Fake Out+Last Resort Ambipom.

[Additional Comments]

Pokemon with Rapid Spin are greatly appreciated due to Moltres' 4x weakness to Stealth Rock. Donphan is a good Pokemon to partner with Moltres, as it can spin away and set up Stealth Rock. It also provides good type synergy with Moltres, immune to Electric-types and resisting Rock-types.

[Set]
name: Life Orb Sweeper
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Hidden Power Grass
move 4: Roost
item: Life Orb / Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[Set Comments]

When buiding teams, people will think of Moltres, and then discard it, saying it's not effective due to Stealth Rock. However, with proper support, it can plow an unprepared tam with solid STAB moves, great coverage and decent bulk. Fire Blast and Air Slash are the basic STAB moves, Hidden Power Grass provides nice coverage with the other moves, and Roost is to help recover HP lost from attacks and Life Orb. While using a Life Orb boosts yoiur attacking prowess, Leftovers heals you and incteases longevity.

[Additional Comments]

As with any Moltres set, a spinner such as Hitmontop will really help out. Chansey walls this set to all layers of heaven and hell, so a Hitmontop will assist this set by spinning away hazards and removing hazards. Stopping Pokemon from setting up hazards via Taunt or Magic Bounce is also appreciated, however Hitmontop is usually the better option, to give you the upper hand against Chansey. Flame Charge and Agility are interesting moves that can replace Roost, but only if you need the boost to outspeed something. Think wisely, since Roost is usually the superior choice.

[Set]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Hidden Power Grass
move 4: U-turn
item: Choice Specs
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
[Set Comments]

While Life Orb is powerful, Choice Specs is overwhelming, and almost everything that switches in will get hurt. Fire Blast and Air Slash are, you guessed it, STAB moves, while Hidden Power Grass is used as coverage coverage. U-Turn is for when Chansey switches in, thus allowing you to keep your momentum and switch out to the appropriate counter.

[Additional Comments]

A Pokemon that knows Rapid Spin, such as Donphan or Hitmontop, can remove Stealth Rock and increase Moltres' lifespan. Hazards can Moltres when a teammate sets it up, weakening Pokemon such as Chansey and Snorlax, who are able to absorb Moltres' powerful Special Attacks. Overheat can be used over Fire Blast, due to better accuracy and power, but with a side effect of Moltres' Special Attack dropping by two stages. Choice Scarf is possible with this set, making you faster, but you lose the power of Choice Specs.
