[LC] #RuffleHustle

#RELEASED

Introduction:
Rufflet is such a qt3.14 ^-^! I'd been trying to find uses for it with Sheer Force, but it only got one worthwhile move that got boosted! Such a shame! Finally, the KRACKENeagle has been released! It is just an utter wrecking ball now! This RMT will consist of Pokemon, Bad Puns, and Singing, so be prepared!

Teambuilding Process:

First Honedge was added to my team. I'd been using Aegislash a lot in OU, so I wanted to see it how it's pre evolution was!

Next up was Rufflet, the center of this team! It covered Aegislash's Ground & Ghost weaknesses, while in return, it covered Rufflet's Ice and Rock weaknesses.

Next to be added was Wooper! I wanted to cover my Electric weakness, while it also stopped Shell Smash abusers.

Then I had Scraggy join my ensemble, with Intimidate and good bulk, it fit right in!

Surskit was added to set up Sticky Web for what was turning out to be a somewhat slow team, plus its STAB moves get great coverage!

Finally, I added another Normal/Flying type: Taillow! I wanted a Defog user, plus now it has Boomburst, so it is much more powerful!

Litleo replaced Wooper as I felt that it wasn't pulling its weight at all! I have noticed I have three normal-types, but none of them are walled by Steel-types, and I have Honedge to aid against Rock-types.

Next, I swapped Mankey in for Scraggy. I may have not been using it right, but I just didn't like it. With Fairy-types running rampant, it just wasn't cutting it for me.

Finally, I added Meditite to my team. I wanted to be able to stop Poison-types hard, while also being a lot better than Mankey! Then, I put Spinarak in for the immensely powerful Megahorn and I liked its typing better.

And thus, my team was born!

In-Depth:

ima sword wee (Honedge) @ Berry Juice
Ability: No Guard
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 220 SDef / 92 Def
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Sword
- Iron Head
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance

Honedge has an amazing typing! Swords Dance boosts its attack to a very high 36, allowing it to dent into anything that doesn't resist it. Shadow Sneak is a decent priority STAB move that picks off weakened foes and makes up for its lack of Speed, while Iron Head is a secondary STAB move to take on Fairies and kill off the Rock-types that threaten my team. Sacred Sword is powerful and ignores any Defense boosts, allowing me to stop Baton Pass teams (however rare they may be). Honedge has been very good to me, yet its lack of Speed is really bothering me, as Shadow Sneak isn't enough sometimes and it is very prone to being revenge killed.

- Brave Bird
- Return

THE MONSTER. Seriously, with this set Rufflet hits 27 Attack and 24 Speed, outspeeding the entire unboosted tier and hitting hard. With STAB 120 Base Power moves, nothing is safe from this monster. Here are calcs against everything in the tier that resist Brave Bird:

So, if you aren't 4x Resistant or if you're just supremely bulk, you're going to be 2HKOed. Return even handles those Electric-types, while Superpower handles the 4x resistant mons and other Steel- and Rock-type Pokemon. The only issue I've had is the accuracy issue, missing in horrible times. But I guess its the risk-vs-reward.

manticory (Litleo) @ Berry Juice
Ability: Moxie
Level: 5
EVs: 180 Spd / 252 SAtk / 76 Atk
Naive Nature
- Flame Charge
- Return
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

My little tiger can sure go to work ^-^. After a Flame Charge, Liltleo hits 25 Speed, outspeeding the unboosted metagame and any Scarfer that starts at 16 Speed or below. Then it really goes to town with its high powered STAB moves. Litleo is a very fearsome mixed sweeper, hindered by a really bad typing. Return is for a powerful STAB that can go to town after a few Moxie Boosts. Fire Blast nails Ferroseed and other Steel-types. Hidden Power [Ice] is just solid coverage and hits Noibat especially hard. The thing I love about Litleo, is that if you KO with Fire Blast, you get the Moxie boost, while the opponent now thinks you have a Special Sweeper, yet this isn't the case. I've been wondering if I should change HP [Ice] for HP [Ground] or HP [Fighting], but I don't really know, it gives coverage against Rock-types.

prayin 4 u (Meditite) @ Choice Band
Ability: Pure Power
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 116 SDef / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch

My little train :3. High Jump Kick hits like a freaking nuke and will pretty much OHKO you unless you're a ghost, but even then, there are only two prominent Ghosts atm, both of which are slaughtered by Zen Headbutt. Bullet Punch is strong, and finishes off the common Shell Smash users. Zen Headbutt is odd, as Psycho Cut is the more common, but my mindset is that if you're running HJK with 90% accuracy, you shouldn't worry about running a 90% accuracy move anyways. It's more powerful than Psycho Cut, that's why I run it. Ice Punch is to nail Flying switch ins and also hitting Grass-types hard. No, I will not put Trick on it. I've never liked Trick, I've always thought: if you want to hit hard, hit hard, if you want to waste your item, go ahead.

ULTRA MEGA HORN (Spinarak) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Swarm
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 236 SDef / 76 Def
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Cross Poison
- Sticky Web
- Sucker Punch

Yayaya, Spinarak! The once forgotten little bug is back with a brand new horn! Sticky Web is very helpful to my team, as I somewhat lack speed in certain areas. If I decide I don't need to set it up, I usually just go straight for the Megahorn, as with Swarm boosted STAB, it hits 234 Base Power, easily denting anything that doesn't resist it. It actually can pick quite a few things off with the combo of Megahorn + Sucker Punch. Cross Poison is used over Poison Jab for the crit ratio, but I'd be willing to change it. It has to be a Poison move though, as I am kind of being anti-Fairy right now haha. (I do love them Fairies tho)

booming loud (Taillow) @ Life Orb
Ability: Scrappy
Level: 5
EVs: 240 Spd / 200 SAtk / 68 SDef
Timid Nature
- Boomburst
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Air Slash
- Defog

My other cute bird :3. I've been an avid user of Taillow for as long as I can remember, and this gen is no different! To prove just how powerful it is, here are calcs against the premier special wall:
200 SpA Life Orb Taillow Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Misdreavus: 13-17 (52 - 68%)
See that, even Max/Max+ Misdreavus cannot withstand this shriek. Hidden Power [Fighting] is to nail Honedge and other Steel-types, while Air Slash is a secondary STAB move. Defog is support for my team, as most of it is weak to SR! I've been considering maybe switching Defog for U-Turn and Life Orb for Choice Specs, but then I can't switch moves and I can't clear hazards, which I absolutely need. Help here much appreciated, but I don't really want to get rid of Taillow.

Closing:
Thanks for reading my RMT! I hope you like my team as much as I did!

Very good team, both from reading this and from fighting it (and losing one of the two; I'm ~30th on ladder). However, I can see having two Flying-types be a problem, even if it counters common threats like Mienfoo well.

RECCOMENDATIONS:
- Ponyta for Litleo; it has recovery, Will-O-Wisp, and isn't weak to the omnipresent Fighting-types of the tier.
- Coverage against Flying-types; they avoid Sticky Web.

just saying rufflet with brave bird is illegal because there is no female rufflet for the moves to be passed down with. yeah....

What set for Ponyta?

How? It's been letting me play it so... Shouldn't the Male pass it down along with Ditto, along with Hustle?

Ponyta @ Berry Juice
Ability: Run Away

Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Morning Sun
- Wild Charge
- Will-O-Wisp

Jolly or Adamant depends on your team's needs.

Also, I recommend removing Rufflet. It makes your team very weak to Stealth Rock, and can't effectively pull its weight without Brave Bird. Perhaps add Staryu? Taillow's fragile defenses won't let it get off a Defog very often.

Do not use illegal movesets/abilities/combinations on the ladder!

While Pokemon Showdown! is awesome, some technical illegalities are difficult to program and/or not high up on the list of things to be fixed. Examples of such include [but are not limited to]:
  • Genderless or male-only Pokemon with level-up moves that can't be learned at or before level 5 (such as Shadow Punch Golett or Brave Bird Rufflet).

Hey there this is a pretty cool team! However, there are several fixes I see that will solidify this teams performance drastically. First of all, Litleo is not a very good mon, especially not now when there is so much shit that can cover it. I would like to suggest Houndour over it. Thanks to Sticky Web support, Houndour's average speed becomes irrelevant, and the high powered moves it has, as well as its unique coverage, allow it to tear apart the most common cores in the current metagame. The set is as follows:

Houndour @ Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 5
EVs: 116 Atk / 116 SAtk / 36 SDef / 236 Spd
Lonely Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Protect

Following this change, you can note that you are still weak to the Ground + Rock coverage multiple Pokemon carry. Coupling this fact is the use of Choice Band Meditite. Choice Band is quite frankly a terrible item in LC, since due to the reduced HP stats, Life Orb deals almost the same amount of damage while maintaining the freedom to change moves. Here, however, you need Meditite to be able to take hits so it can cover some of your vital weaknesses. Due to this, I propose you replace your current Meditite set with the superior Eviolite set in order to help strengthen your defensive backbone:

Meditite @ Eviolite
Ability: Pure Power
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 76 Def / 196 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Drain Punch
- Psycho Cut/Fake Out/Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch

Drain Punch provides vital healing support and is generally more important on this set. I prefer the consistency of Psycho Cut but the choice between that and Zen Headbutt is yours.

Now, a minor change I propose is Eviolite > Berry Juice on Honedge, because Honedge has nice natural bulk and excellent typing, making Eviolite a much more favorable option on it. It can check multiple physical offensive mons better with Evio, most notably opposing Meditite.

Finally, since Rufflet is apparently still illegal (n.n), there is another extremely fun Flying type you can employ! Normal Gem Fletchling (rip Flying Gem) is one of the best lategame cleaners, and will do wonders for your team. Simply dropping your Normal Gem boosted Return early game will notch you a kill, especially with Sticky Web support, then late game Acrobatics cleaning becomes a piece of cake. The set is as follows:

Fletchling @ Normal Gem
Ability: Gale Wings
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 36 Def / 52 SDef / 180 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Acrobatics
- Tailwind

Tailwind is valuable support in case your Sticky Web plan failed as a last ditch to drop hyper speed Houndours and Honedges on your opponent, which is quite useful in clutch situations.

Overall, this is a really cool team, sucks that Rufflet is illegal with BB, and I hope my changes help you out.
