Kyogre @ Assault Vest
Ability: Drizzle
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 4 SpA / 4 SpD / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Water Spout
- Origin Pulse
- Thunder
- Icy Wind
Kyogre is no stranger to the VGC 22 metagame, but this bulky Assault Vest set piloted by Tomiyuki Yoshimura made quite the splash at last month's Japanese national tournament, going all the way to top 4! The highlight move here is Icy Wind, forgoing the typical Ice Beam in order to support its teammates with reliable speed control. This works great with partners like Thundurus and Zacian-C, which outspeed most of the metagame already, but appreciate being able to outspeed Calyrex-S and Regieleki. Assault Vest Kyogre distinguishes itself by turning normally negative matchups against Pokemon like Zapdos and Regieleki into positive ones, as well as being able to tank almost any non-super effective special attack. The Defense EVs also give it great matchups into the likes of Groudon and Zacian-C. This incredible bulk can be further increased by teammates with damage reduction options like Incineroar and Grimmsnarl. This effectively leaves physical Grass-types like Rillaboom and Kartana as the only options to pressure Kyogre, which can easily be checked by Zacian-C, Incineroar, Thundurus, and Zapdos.
