Gengar is a fearsome wallbreaker thanks to its high Special Attack and Speed as well as access to Nasty Plot. Its immunity to Toxic and Seismic Toss also makes it a potent stallbreaker. Nasty Plot allows Gengar to deal massive damage with its attacks and open up holes for the rest of its teammates. When used with the Ghostium Z, Shadow Ball becomes a strong Never-Ending Nightmare that OHKOes key checks to Gengar, most notably Unaware Clefable, Landorus-T, and Garchomp after minor chip damage. Focus Blast is Gengar’s preferred coverage move to hit Pokemon that Shadow Ball cannot such as Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar. Substitute allows Gengar to freely fire off attacks or set up with Nasty Plot to pressure defensive Pokemon and exploit Pokemon that rely on status, like Thunder Wave Blissey and Sleep Powder Tangrowth.

Gengar fits best on offensive and hyper offensive teams, as they allow Gengar to utilize its offensive prowess well. Due to Gengar's frailty, it is important to switch it in safely, so pivots such as Tapu Koko, Landorus-T, and Rillaboom are key teammates. Landorus-T can also provide entry hazard support for Gengar, helping it punish switch-ins and securing OHKOs on bulkier Pokemon like Garchomp, and gives it a crucial Ground immunity to switch into. Pursuit trappers like Weavile and Tyranitar threaten Gengar heavily, so it pairs well with Pokemon like Mega Lopunny that can take them on. Gengar also likes Mega Lopunny's ability to pressure and take out offensive Pokemon that threaten it like Garchomp and Greninja, and Gengar helps pressure Fairy-types in return. Setup sweepers like Mega Gyarados and Rillaboom appreciate Gengar’s ability to tear massive holes into teams for them to clean up, and, in turn, Gengar appreciates their ability to get rid of threats such as Tyranitar and Choice Scarf Landorus-T.

Taunt is an alternative to Substitute to combat Haze users such as Toxapex, but, in most cases, Gengar freely attacking from its immunity to most status moves behind Substitute is sufficient. Sludge Wave as a secondary STAB move can be considered to hit super effectively against Grass- and Fairy-types like Tangrowth and Clefable, but +2 Shadow Ball and Focus Blast will hit hard enough by themselves and already provide perfect coverage.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Gengar’s poor bulk allows faster Pokemon such as Mega Lopunny, Greninja, and various Choice Scarf Pokemon like Landorus-T to take advantage of it, threatening to OHKO or massively damage it. However, these attempts to revenge kill Gengar are futile if it has a Substitute up when they come in.

**Pursuit Trappers**: Pursuit users like Weavile and Tyranitar can trap Gengar without a Substitute, although they can be played around if Gengar keeps a consistent Substitute up.

**Strong Priority**: Fake Out from Mega Lopunny, Grassy Glide from Rillaboom, Bullet Punch from Mega Scizor, and Shadow Sneak from Aegislash can hit Gengar hard or OHKO in the case of the latter, due to its frailty.

With a fearsome 130 base Special Attack stat, Nasty Plot, and typing what does Gengar's typing do for it? You explain below so could remove this part about the typing Gengar fulfills a great role in stall-breaking. Due to Gengar’s typing, it is immune to Normal and Fighting-typed moves such as Seismic Toss, as well as Toxic, It sounded like Toxic was a Fighting-type move, which it isn't. I think this makes it clearer that Toxic is an additional immunity. allowing it to force out Pokemon like Chansey and Blissey on stall teams As stall teams usually carry very good hazard control, Chansey is the superior choice for them STAB-boosted Shadow Ball is Gengar’s main attacking move that hits neutral on most of the tier and large chunks of damage at +2. When used with the Ghostium Z, Shadow Ball becomes a strong 160 base power Never-Ending Nightmare that OHKO’s key checks to Gengar, most notably Unaware Clefable, Landorus-T, and Garchomp after minor chip damage. Substitute grants Gengar the ability to pressure defensive Pokemon like what?Are there any notable moves they carry you can avoid? and freely shoot off attacks or set up with Nasty Plot. Focus Blast is Gengar’s preferred coverage move to hit super-effectively Pokemon that Shadow Ball cannot such as Ferrothorn, Heatran, Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar. The EV spread and a Timid nature allow Gengar to hit as hard and fast as possible to outspeed and deal massive damage to opposing Pokemon. There's no need to explain basic 252 / 252 EV spreads.

Gengar fits best on fast-paced, hyper offensive teams to dish out as much heavy damage and KOs as possible. Entry-hazard setters like Landorus-T and Excadrill are great partners for Gengar as hazards help secure OHKOs for Gengar’s attacks. This applies to every Pokemon. Unless these two hazard setters have particularly notable synergy with Gengar, this should be removed. Setup sweepers like Mega Gyarados and Rillaboom appreciate Gengar’s ability to tear massive holes into teams for them to clean up, and in turn, Gengar appreciates their ability to threaten Pokemon that can take advantage of Gengar’s weaknesses such as Tyranitar and Landorus-T.

With a fearsome 130 base Special Attack stat and Nasty Plot to enhance it further, Gengar is a great stallbreaker fulfills a great role in stall-breaking <- this sentence was hard to read. Due to Gengar’s typing, it is immune to Normal- and Fighting-typed moves such as Seismic Toss, as well as Toxic allowing it to force out Pokemon like Chansey on stall teams. STAB-boosted Shadow Ball is Gengar’s main attacking move that hits neutral on most of the tier and large chunks of damage at +2. Obvious stab moves don't need to be mentioned Substitute grants Gengar the ability to pressure defensive Pokemon with the utility of status-immunity such as Thunder-Wave Blissey and Sleep Powder Tangrowth. Substitute also allows Gengar to freely shoot off attacks or set up with Nasty Plot. Focus Blast is Gengar’s preferred coverage move to hit super-effectively Pokemon that Shadow Ball cannot such as Ferrothorn, Heatran, Chansey, Blissey, and Tyranitar. Fightinium-Z allows you to hit Tyranitar and other pursuit trappers more reliably.

Gengar fits best on Bulky-offensive and balance teams, while having a niche on hyper-offensive teams fast-paced, hyper offensive teams to dish out as much heavy damage and KOs as possible. This paragraph is somewhat barebones, I would add more; inculding defensive backbones and speed control.

Mention teammates that can patch up Gengar’s poor offensive matchups, can grant it safe switch-ins, patch up its weakness to Pursuit, and can wallbreak/clean once its dones ripping holes in the opponents team.
