Completed cityscapes vs Lady Salamence (B3P2 1* TLG Mix Singles)

The Rules said:
B3P2 1* TLG Mix Singles (BO3)
DQ: 72hr (1 Warning)
Abilities: All
Backpack Size: 7
Switch: OK
Technique Control: 0
Substitutions: 4
Recoveries: 2 per Pokemon
Chills: 5 per Pokemon
Arena: Variable
Special Rule #1: The game ends when the first KO is scored. The trainer of the KO'd pokemon loses that game.
Special Rule #2: When you send in your team, if a Pokemon has access to more than one form-changing item or attachment: submit one (1) form-changing item or attachment to your ref. The item you submitted to the ref is a secret. During battle, you may not attempt to equip form-changing items or attachments, other than what you submitted to the ref.
  • KOing an opponent through a self-KO move or Destiny Bond grants them the win
  • KOing an opponent through a move that results in your Pokémon ENKOing grants you the win
  • KOing an opponent then taking recoil that KOes you too grants you the win

Game 1:
- The ref flips a coin (or rolls a 1d2, you get the idea) to select who is "T1" and who is "T2"
- T1 declares a Pokemon and item sent in by T2. (Example: "I'm taking Arboliva and Shed Shell.")
- T2 declares a Pokemon and item sent in by T1.
- For the duration of the game, each player owns the Pokemon and item they declared.
- T2 is first sendout.
- Pokemon and items are returned to their original owners after the game concludes.

Games 2+:
- The loser of the previous match decides whether they want to be T1 or T2 (if T1, the next step is done in the same post)
- T1 declares a Pokemon and item sent in by T2.
- T2 declares a Pokemon and item sent in by T1.
- For the duration of the game, each player owns the Pokemon and item they declared.
- T2 is first sendout.
- Pokemon and items are returned to their original owners after the game concludes.

In today's battle, we will witness two players partake in a unique variant of the Legend Gauntlet, in which the. In lieu of multiple arenas, each trainer will borrow one of their opponent's Pokemon prior to the first round, resulting in many potentially interesting strategies. Seemingly designed for this purpose, cityscapes's team consists of several low-tier Pokemon, glued together by the mediocrity of a Skarmory. Furthermore, Alcremie matches well into the majority of Lady Salamence's team, which cannot possibly backfire. Similarly, Lady Salamence has brought a team of unorthodox support 'mons helmed by their eponymous partner Pokemon, the latter of whose powerful stats and coverage allows it to threaten several opponents as well as both of its teammates; however, the presence of Froslass helps deter certain Pokemon swaps, as neither of Lady Salamence's Dragons cares to stomach many of its powerful STAB attacks. With introductions complete, we now turn to the ceremonial coin flip to guide this spectacle's beginning, and issue instructions in the corresponding fashion:

Turn Order [T2 Coinflip (1=cityscapes, 2=Lady Salamence): 2]

cityscapes is T1; Lady Salamence is T2.

An unfortunate miss derails Lady Salamence's plan, costing them a significant portion of the damage intended to compete with Alcremie's superior output. Furthermore, this falling hail seems lackluster today, as evidenced by the unharmed Alcremie frolicking in the soft Snow. Nevertheless, with turn order favoring an aggressive play, Lady Salamence has an opportunity to regain control of the match; let us now watch to see how they utilize it.

In a straightforward round, both Pokemon continue to exchange blows, furthering cityscapes's advantage. Thus, it appears that the first match will reach its conclusion imminently, as Lady Salamence's Froslass will surely fall to two well-placed attacks.

Wasting no time, cityscapes commands Alcremie to knock out Froslass after boosting its stats to minimize the incoming damage. With this, the first match of this battle has concluded, placing Lady Salamence on the back foot as they enter the next bout. However, Lady Salamence has been granted the privilege of turn order determination, so their ability to catalyze a turnaround may well be enhanced.

Attempting to accelerate the conclusion of this much-delayed skirmish, Lady Salamence a fairy orders their Skarmory to strike with a series of weak attacks, perhaps with the second goal of rolling an unlikely flinch. Unfortunately, these efforts are ineffective, and cityscapes' Chimecho successfully paralyzes Skarmory before overtaking its subsequent output with repeated iterations of a beefy fixed-damage move. Now in possession of first order, Lady Salamence a fairy must find a way to prevent their deficit from expanding, else victory will surely be claimed by cityscapes within the coming rounds.

cityscapes orders a sequence of Psywaves to vanquish a fairy's Skarmory, finishing the second bout. With this action, the battle has reached its conclusion, thereby signaling the end of a seven-month endeavor. Although the timeline of its progression seems to obfuscate the merit of this experimental format, such details may best be left to a subsequent review.
