So today I was in class when I noticed Haiku written by my students. There were some real gems:

授業中
The middle of class (5)
春風吹いて
There was a spring wind that blew (7)
眠くなる
I became sleepy (5)

冬休み
Winter Vacation
課題終わらず
I finish not my homework
最後泣く
In the end I cry

I almost laughed out loud in the middle of class. The English above I just tried to translate while sticking to the 5-7-5 syllable pattern.

What can you make??

The lonesome king does-
Sit upon his own sorrow
And weep to himself

Birds flying around
The old man at the park sits
And feeds his friends.

Birds flying around
The young boy at the park sits
And makes new friends.

A blind man crossing-
The street with his dog on a-
Leash. Both have a smile.

EDIT:
unsure if thread is serious or not serious

Owl hunts at night
Silently flies through forest
Until the sunrise

Fish in the water
Swim up the river to spawn
Cycle continues

One caterpillar
Eats to grow wings and soars off
Metamorphosis

Sun shines over sea
Dive off boat into water
Get attacked by shark

Leaves change and time flows
The birds fly south as snow falls
Song of the seasons

Longs for company
Goes downtown to the corner
Finds a prostitute

I want to kill you
and take your fucking iphone
so i can pawn shop

pokemon is ass
too much luck i do not have
plays a real damn game

Do not be afraid
Of such incomplexities
My dearest Hano.

I want to spread wings
Forevermore in the sun
Have gone with the light.

I still remember the first haiku I wrote in like second grade:

Monkey in a tree
Swinging gracefully, up high
So close to the sky

Open fields of green Enclave of nature confined.
Hark! A dog shitting.

Don't open the bag
Grandma, please don't open the –
Yep. It's a lobster.

Its power is legend.
None defy Do Not Erase.
My board dick is safe.

Furrowed brows type away.
Studious fingers jot notes.
Behind screens, text twists.
