SM OU Bird Jesi (Bulky Offense)

Introduction

Yah and I'm back. Hello again. I've been playing on the Phero suspect ladder with this squad since M-Pidgeot's arrival, and have seen success against most archetypes, except for stall of course. So I'm looking to tweak this team slightly in order to beat stall, since I haven't much experience against SM stall.

Teambuilding Process

Underrated threat in OU back in Gen 6, and also it'd just come out a few days ago so I wanted to test it.

Most used mon ever, but no one will expect Scarf because it's non-existent at this point. Decent lead against offense.

Raikou acts as a wincon, setting up on Zapdos, Koko or Choiced mons, with BoltBeam coverage stronger than that of Koko.

Basically because I don't want to lose to Lele. It also soft-check both Greninja forms and provide slow Volt Switches.

Again, another check to most threats in the tier as well as providing hazards.

So I don't lose to Volc, and Azu gives me a reliable priority for revenge killing.

The Team

Fabio 2.0 (Pidgeot-Mega) @ Pidgeotite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ground]
I decided to build around M-Pidgeot since it's pretty new in SM OU, but it still does what it did best back in ORAS, spamming Hurricane better than Torn-T. STAB Hurricane 2HKOs most mons on a neutral hit, except Toxapex. Heat Wave is basic coverage since it kills M-Metagross, which Pidgeot outspeeds, if it switches in on a Hurricane. A fast U-turn is always appreciated in undesirable matchups, and HP Gound kills Tran after a Hurricane and rocks.

Vibes (Landorus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Stone Edge
Lando-T fits on basically every team so why not? But I'm using Scarfed Lando - a somewhat "obsolete" set. But that's exactly why it succeeds in nabbing kills since no one expects it anymore. U-turn and EQ are regular moves on Lando, with Edge hitting Zard and HP Ice hitting other Landos and Zygardes. This is usually my lead and can easily pick up a turn 1 kill against offensive builds.

Tapu Koko (Raikou) @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Calm Mind
Raikou returns again after I realized it can set up effortlessly on the 2 most popular Electric types right now being Koko and Zapdos. CM BoltBeam can outright sweep most teams, again, except stall, like "Triple Z". Even without a boost, subbing a switch can guarantee me at least 1 strong hit against things like M-Metagross, Landos, Chomps and Leles. This is usually my wincon unless it gets critted twice and burned by Zapdos (see Pokeaim's video).

Mawile (Magearna) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Spe
- Volt Switch
- Ice Beam
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
So the previous members can't switch into Lele STABs, and AV Magearna fixes the issue very well. A slow Volt Switch with 30 IVs in Speed gives me the most momentum since this will outslow other Magearnas. Ice Beam hits Lando on the switch for a clean kill. Flash Cannon is just spammable and HP Fire so I don't get walled out by Ferro or Sciz if the situation calls for it. Max SpDef helps sponge hits from Lele and Greninja, and apparently the Latios that has been popping up lately.

blunder (Chansey) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock
- Seismic Toss
- Counter
Chansey is still fat even with the nerf to Eviolite. I lacked a Volc wall and hazards on this team so Chansey was a perfect fit. Originally I had Toxic over Counter but after playtesting, I found that Chansey can easily be overwhelmed by Double Dance Lando, Chomp, Physical Koko, Metagross and Protean Gren so I switched to counter as a sure-fire way to get rid of these threats since Lando is not defensive.

skrt skrt (Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
Azu is literally here just as another offensive counter to Volc and special walls. Play Rough and Waterfall are pretty spammable, and Jet picks off weakened mons late-game. Knock Off is no-risk, hitting Slowbro and Toxapex on stall. The EVs allow it to outspeed non-invested base 70 and below.

Conclusion

This team has some unconventional sets but has proven itself to take on the ladder comfortably. The core of Mag, Chansey and Azu allows this team to play safe and risk-free against almost any archetype, specifically any type of Offense. Some flaws include no hazard control and no Metagross switch-ins, and a bad matchup against stall. Originally I had Fini over Chansey and Gren over Azu but that will just give Volc the easiest setup of its life. Again, any advice is appreciated and thanks for reading :]
