Other Metagames [BH] Current Team

Champion Leon

Banned deucer.
I managed to make a comeback with Golisopod, albeit with Lefties and and an Impish nature:

Introduction

So the name stands for Current both in water and electricity as this team uses 2 Electric-types, and 2 Water-types, as well as Electric Surge. The goal of this team is to make good use of Electric Surge with a strong team support, while showcasing Golisipod as a valuable member of a team with the right ability, item, and moveset designed specifically for his teammates.
In-Depth
Ferrothorn @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Trick
- Nuzzle
- Spikes
- Parting Shot

My typical lead, worse case scenario, I can Parting Shot to something non-Dark that can take their softened attacks, or at least confirm if they have Dazzling, Contrary, Simple, or Magic Bounce. I can also prevent Poison Heal, Spooky Plate, and Focus Sash users from using their strategy. Due to Ferrothorn's immunities, Parting Shot also means the foe wont Spore, Toxic, or Leech Seed my incoming teammate since they wont know I am switching :)

I first disarm with Trick, disable with Nuzzle, decorate with Spikes, and diminish with Parting Shot. If the foe has Magic Bounce, I then direct them with Parting Shot back to their Pokeball and force their switch. Especially helpful if I managed to get at least 1 Spikes down. It also resists Fairy, Electric, Water, to aid Giratina, Zekrom, Gyarados-Mega, and Golisopod.

Also Nuzzle gets an Electric Terrain boost ;D

Giratina @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Baneful Bunker
- Dragon Tail
- Spectral Thief

I usually send in Giratina next, so it can activate my Toxic Orb and then it can serve as my status absorber. I set spikes, status & stall, switch out their foe, and steal their boosts. Giratina is a strong support to my team, and unlike Aegislash, it does not add any Ground weaknesses, and it can actually take advantage of Poison Heal.

Further, it loves coming in on a Volt Switch, especially if it KOes the foe, or Parting Shot, especially as the foe wont use Spore on Ferrothorn which means it wont be slept before Toxic Orb activates. Oh, also, Gyarados' Baton Pass which not only provides Spectral Thief, but unlike the other 2 pivots, it is slower so it let's Giratina get the Spectral Thieved Shell Smash from opposing Sash Mewtwo-Mega-Y and outspeed everything! Oh, and if they want to Spectral Thief Giratina, they will just get Poisoned instead. :D

Giratina has many resistances/Immunities, including Normal Extreme Speed from Slaking/Regigas, and V-Create + Superpower from Contrarian Mewtwo-X & Groudon-Primal. Giratina pairs surprisingly well with Golisopod covering its Electric weaknesses, while Golisopod covers its Ice, and Dark, weaknesses. They also tend to resist what each other's neutral hits would be between the 2 of them, at least 1 of the 2 resist 11 / 17 types, with bold if they both resist it:
Ground, Dark, Ice, Steel, Fighting, Normal, Poison, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric.

If they are a Normal type, I can still Dragon Tail the boosters out, or just switch to Unaware Mega-Gyarados and stall them out if they have Substitute.

Golisopod @ Expert Belt
Ability: Fur Coat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crabhammer
- Bolt Strike
- Leech Life
- Shore Up

I needed a Ground resist (including from 1K Arrows) after packing 2 Electric types on my team, and with many bulky Grass-types like Venusaur having a dual-typing that neutralized the resistance, and too many (5) weaknesses, I thought of Golisipod, as it isn't weak to Fire, and can use its STAB water attacks to handle Groudon, and 1HKOs it along with many others.

Zekrom and Manectric resist Flying, albeit not the best defensively, and Giratina is a best, so sorry Yveltal, Ho-oh, and Lugia, but you don't threat it. As for Rayquaza, Gyarados can Spectral Thief Oblivion Wing, and Baton Pass safely to Zekrom for the Extreme Speed and Boomburst, or even Manectric backed by Specs. Electric types may be frail, but a slow pivot changes everything...

Don't forget, Fur Coat helps against Psystrike and the odd Sacred Sword as well.

I know Bolt Strike looks surprising, but it is so it can 1HKO +DEF Natured: Kyogre-Primal, Ho-oh, Lugia, Yvetal, and Mega Gyarados, especially with boosts from Electric Terrain, and deal strong neutral coverage against Palkia, Rayquaza-Mega, etc. Calculations on 1HKOs are below-

2HKOs
252+ Atk Expert Belt Golisopod Crabhammer vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 247-295 (61.1 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Defensively:
252+ Atk Life Orb Aerilate Rayquaza-Mega Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Fur Coat Golisopod: 179-213 (50.5 - 60.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO *Assume it got Nuzzle Paralyzed*

252+ Atk Groudon-Primal Precipice Blades vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Fur Coat Golisopod: 43-51 (12.1 - 14.4%) -- possible 7HKO

252+ Atk Groudon-Primal V-create vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Fur Coat Golisopod: 129-153 (36.4 - 43.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Gyarados-Mega @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Spectral Thief
- Baton Pass
- Roost

What can I say, pretty self explanatory. I use it over Yvetal so it can take Ice, rather than attract Ice attacks.
Knock off their item as they set up, steal their boosts, recover the damage and then Baton Pass to a sweeper like Zekrom for the KO. It is so much fun surprising everyone with Baton Pass, especially as not everyone is aware that Galvanize is a thing, especially as Zekrom resists both of its Water weaknesses.

With an immunity to Prankster, Psychic, and resistances to Ice, Fire, Water, Dark, and Ghost, Gyarados-Mega is no slouch defensively, and after a Spectral Thief, even offensively.

Manectric-Mega @ Expert Belt / Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Steam Eruption

The reason to truly use Zekrom over Groudon-Primal for Galvanize: double-STAB, and with Volt Switch, Manectric serves as a great pivot. You have 2 options for items: Choice Specs is so it can stay a threat, while still maintain a solid speed. Manectric is fast, but if needed, it appreciates using Expert Belt instead so it can use other moves without recoil, especially since it is frail and will take heavy damage even from resisted hits. Electric Surge already boosts its STAB by what a Specs would be, but Specs boosts Ice Beam and Steam Eruption.

People still end up trying to Spore it, or teammates while Electric Surge is up, which proves that sometimes it is good to use an unpopular strategy because your opponent cannot predict against it. Manectric also gets coverage to handle its usual counters like Groudon-Primal and Zygarde. Calculations for Expert Belt & Specs are below:
Expert Belt-

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Gyarados-Mega in Electric Terrain: 360-425 (91.3 - 107.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Kyogre-Primal in Electric Terrain: 310-367 (76.7 - 90.8%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 461-542 (114.1 - 134.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Rayquaza-Mega: 384-456 (92.7 - 110.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tyranitar-Mega: 206-245 (50.9 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Expert Belt Manectric-Mega Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 398-470 (62.5 - 73.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Choice Specs-

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Diancie-Mega: 274-324 (90.1 - 106.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Rayquaza-Mega: 476-564 (114.9 - 136.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Kyogre-Primal in Electric Terrain: 384-452 (95 - 111.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Gyarados-Mega in Electric Terrain: 450-530 (114.2 - 134.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Zygarde-Complete: 496-584 (77.9 - 91.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Manectric-Mega Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Tyranitar-Mega: 258-304 (63.8 - 75.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Zekrom @ Life Orb
Ability: Galvanize
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Boomburst
- Core Enforcer
- Steam Eruption

Nothing to see here, just 324 base power Boomburst that's all... oh, and Extreme Speed hits at 216 base power, while Steam Eruption handles Groudon-Primal, and Core Enforcer removes Dazzling, and everything else.

This is what happens when you are too low on damage to bother being Imposter-proof, so you use Life Orb over Draco Plate. Overall, I focused on a +Atk Nature even though 3/4 moves are special, because it just makes more sense

Zekrom adds another Ice, Fairy, and Ground weakness, but I like it's power, and the fact that Electric Surge lets it rival Life Orb Aerilate Rayquaza in prowess, with less weaknesses. Don't believe me? Check out the calculations below:
252+ Atk Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Rayquaza-Mega in Electric Terrain: 298-351 (71.9 - 84.7%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Rayquaza-Mega in Electric Terrain: 398-469 (96.1 - 113.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Zekrom Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 384-456 (95 - 112.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Kyogre-Primal: 385-455 (95.2 - 112.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Kyogre-Primal: 382-452 (94.5 - 111.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Gyarados-Mega: 445-525 (112.9 - 133.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Lugia: 299-354 (71.8 - 85%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Lugia: 393-463 (94.4 - 111.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Diancie-Mega in Electric Terrain: 277-328 (91.1 - 107.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Diancie-Mega in Electric Terrain: 374-441 (123 - 145%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Zekrom Core Enforcer vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Kyurem-Black: 343-406 (75.5 - 89.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Threats:

Threatens my Electric-types, such as a Contrarian user with V-Create under his belt, but I can handle it with Crab Hammer Golisipod, Spectral Thief Gyarados. If Manectric outspeeds it (i.e. a Choice Bander), Steam Eruption 1HKOs as it will go first. Giratina isn't threatened by anything it can throw at it really.

Threatens Giratina, Gyarados-Mega, and Zekrom but my Ferrothorn can resist, Trick, and Nuzzle it. It can pivot with Parting Shot to weaken its offense. If it is Nuzzle paralyzed, Zekrom can outspeed it with Extreme Speed for the 1HKO. Manectric can Steam Eruption with Specs, and net the 1HKO. Giratina can even Baneful Bunker on predicted Fake-outs and Extreme Speeds to Poison stall.

Ironically, because of its weakness to Stealth Rock, Kyurem will be KOed by Core Enforcer, while Kyurem-B will only net a 2HKO against Zekrom, even factoring in Life Orb, as the below caluclations state.
252+ Atk Refrigerate Kyurem-Black Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Zekrom: 294-348 (72.7 - 86.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Gyarados, and Golisipod serve as ways to wall it, and can defeat it.

It can Geomancy, but at the end of the day, it better watch out for Zekrom's Extreme Speed (shown below). Ferrothorn can also use Trick and resist its attacks to Nuzzle it.
252 SpA Life Orb Galvanize Zekrom Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Xerneas in Electric Terrain: 368-434 (80.7 - 95.1%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Can you help me improve my team? I want to keep the core Current theme: Electric Surge, Golisopod, Zekrom, but I am will to completely change any of the other 4: Manectric, Gyarados, Giratina, and Ferrothorn.

So what do you say, let's keep things Current! :)

If you came this far, I commend you. Your reward is the battle of a lifetime, full with humorous commentary, stalling, and even an Imposter! View your reward below!

Inteeresting team idea :)
Just some suggestions:
Trick-Scarf with Prankster is easily blocked by Terrain, switching in a Dank Type or having an un-trickable item, so that you remain locked into Trick, causing you to lose momentum. Another possibility is the switchin of a RegenVest mon, so that you obtain an AV, rendering Ferrothorn useless for the rest of the match. My suggestion is the following set:

Ferrothorn @ Choice Scarf Dankinium Z
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Impish Nature
- Trick Haze / Destiny Bond / Shore Up
- Nuzzle / Glare / Shore Up
- Spikes / Shore Up
- Parting Shot

With Dankinium Z, you can use Z-Parting Shot to fully heal one of your teammembers while being immune to trickeroo and taking less damage from Knock Off. Over the now useless Trick you can run either Haze or Destiny Bond. If you ran the latter, keep Nuzzle to have an attack with standard prio so that you're able to keep up Destiny Bond for a second turn against faster attackers, otherwise replace it with Glare to be able to paralyze ground-types. If you keep Nuzzle, run minimum speed of course. Recovery is also a good option to stay healthy, which is especially important as Ferrothorn seems to be your improof for Manectric and Zekrom.

Also, Zekrom gets worn down too fast by hazards and Life Orb recoil, especially because the team lacks hazard control, so I would suggest to run a different item like Draco Plate for being self-improof (you may then even run a setup move like Smash over Steam Eruption) or Zap Plate/Magnet for stronger galvanized attacks.

Regarding Giratina, you should use Core Enforcer and Defog on it to check Regigigas and have some hazard control - which is especially important as your signature mon Golisopod is weak to them. An option is to replace Spieks on Ferrothorn with Rocks, as hazard-stacking usually doesn't really work in BH and hazards are mainly used to break sashes and kill Sturdinja so that you free up one slot on Tina.

On Golispod you should use Spectral Thief to be able to use Fur Coat to stop physical setuppers, for example over Leech Life, as 'pod can't stay in on most Mewtwo sets - and this is the only thing which is really targeted by Leech Life (Gyara is hit equally hard by Bolt Strike).

hi

i see potential in this team but there are a few things you need to check first. after that's taken care of tho i can see this team being pretty nice

considering you have 2 of the very few mons known as "answers" to it, your team has a pretty bad matchup against ph regigigas, given that neither your ferrothorn nor your giratina have consistent recovery (regi pressures giratina with knock off). if you've already tricked away ferrothorn's scarf, the only thing you can really do back is click dragon tail with giratina or maybe set up a spike or two as it keeps clicking shift gear.

to fix this maybe run core enforcer over dragon tail on giratina, this actually deals damage to regi and allows you to double switch if you want. if you're more into the phazing theme then circle throw is good too because it deals more damage to the normal types you wanted to force out.

-

your team is really, really weak to fairy. ferrothorn is your only resist and although you can threaten guys out with it because of nuzzle, you can only switch in once. after that you literally just lose to pixilate plate diancie. (the uncommon specs diancie just 6-0s) because this i suggest you change ferrothorn to registeel. why did you choose ferro over registeel in the first place? regi gives you a sturdy resist to all fairy types, i would suggest running a set like this:

Registeel @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Roost
- Entrainment
- Spectral Thief
- Glare

flash fire is needed so that registeel can consistently switch in against mons that commonly carry fire coverage. examples include v create kartana/diancie and contrary users with overheat like mmy and scept. spectral thief handles shell smash and glare forces guys out, also handling normalize gengar. entrainment is to give you a way around ph fairies because those actually win otherwise.

-

why do you call golisopod a "slow pivot" even though it doesn't even have u-turn? that's one of the main draws about golisopod: a u-turn slower than mega audino and registeel, but with surprising power behind it. i think you should run u-turn over leech life. at this point i honestly think you don't need bolt strike anymore for a couple of reasons: 1) you don't need to be walled by giratina even more than you are already 2) if you're predicting your opponent to switch into some electric weak mon then the play is to u-turn to zekrom anyway.

in its place i recommend using toxic. toxic wears down fur coat giratina over the course of the game, preventing it from switching into your guys, but at the same time doesn't affect your own ph giratina. your matchup vs opposing ph giratina isn't too bad because you can handle them w zekrom

also run minimum speed with a brave nature so your u turn is the slowest

finally i think you should give golisopod volt absorb. i might be kind of partial because i used my own volt absorb golisopod at one point but let me tell you that you don't want to click x whenever you see chansey or blissey (or guzzlord shoutouts gmu) on the opposing team in team preview. also you have the best mmy checks you could ask for (ff registeel, unaware gyara) so i don't think you need fc.

-

finally, here's the biggest change i'm suggesting: change zekrom from galvanize to surge surfer. this should make sense. the +2 granted by surge surfer gives you enough speed to outrun most mons so you can use any move before they get to act, not just extreme speed. here's the set i suggest

Zekrom @ Life Orb / Dragonium Z
Ability: Surge Surfer
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Lonely / Hasty Nature
- Bolt Strike
- Dragon Hammer
- Steam Eruption
- Transform / filler

i'm crazy enough to suggest transform but i know that not everyone is crazy enough to use it hence the filler

i knew i had to replace core enforcer because otherwise imposter could threaten to sweep if it was able to core enforce golisopod on the switch (keep in mind that this would likely be their choice considering it hits zekrom super effectively). dragon hammer is the best choice because it's the strongest reliable physical dragon move available. your calc showed that zekrom didn't need a life orb to ohko same natured pdon with steam eruption so i think it's a good idea to keep it, as a bonus it gives you a check to +2 pixilate pdon which can be a huge threat. (golisopod beats galvanize and refrigerate)

life orb is the more standard option but i like dragonium z. you draw in a weakened fc giratina and stomp that stupid thing into the ground once and for all. too easy

lonely>naughty to take less from core enforcer

-

also terrain extender on mega mane if you want

Registeel @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Roost
- Entrainment
- Spectral Thief
- Glare

Giratina @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Careful Nature

If you use Volt Absorb Golisopid to improof Zekrom, you should run a trapping move on it like thousand waves. This allows you to trap and pp-stall the imposter do death, as it might try to bolt strike Golisopod, and it also allows you to trap and kill Galvanize PDons.
The new set could look like this:
Golisopod @ Leftovers / Safety Giggles
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Brave Nature
- U-Turn
- Thousand Waves
- Spectral Thief (to prevent getting overwhelmed if PDon tries to break through by boosting with Sell Smash)
- Shore Up

at that point you might as well run gyara, w/ volt switch, and trap its own imposter. theres nothing inheretly about golisopod that makes it so much better than gyara, and you appreciate the good typing and little bit more bulk.

Of course, but I want to change the team as little as possible and because it seems like he definitely wants to use Golisopod, I kept it instead of suggesting Gyarados ;) Btw Gyarados may fail to check Galvanize PDon due to its neutrality to ground (unless it manages to knoff the plate off):
+2 252+ SpA Earth Plate Groudon-Primal Judgment vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Gyarados-Mega: 313-370 (79.4 - 93.9%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
