So I was browsing Bulbapedia last night and I found this nifty little move. Now it does look gimmicky and... My testing has not proven otherwise, but I did come up with one set that might work in a lower tier when the tiers become set in stone:
Victreebel @ Salac Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Belch
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Ground] (Because Sucker Punch and Belch are incompatible.)
The idea behind the set is to raise Speed with the Berry and potentially start outrunning a large majority of your opponents, putting something troublesome to sleep and regaining health with Giga Drain.
Now here's my question, and it's probably going to be an easy one to answer: Is this move a gimmick or might it have some competitive merit? From my testing... To the gimmick bin.
