"A wise choice."

Riolu @ Heart Scale

"Since Ralts has the Trace ability, I have to give you the optional opportunity to copy one of Riolu's abilities before I order. It's a powerful ability that can turn your opponent's strengths against them. For example, if I had sent out Poliwag, you could've traced Water Absorb to completely nullify Poliwag's power STAB moves."

Quarrel selects an ability (or declines to Trace)

Not many good Flinch moves in either of our movepools, but I guess Rock Slide could be annoying, so Tracing Inner Focus to eliminate that option.

"The Ralts line is known for its tricky status moves. Stat-boosting moves like Calm Mind are much less powerful here, but attacks that restrict what moves your opponents can use are particularly devastating."

Riolu @ Heart Scale
Poison Jab | Blaze Kick | Poison Jab
If Ralts uses Will-O-Wisp or Draining Kiss, then use Dig.

"Dig works a bit differently in ASB. Moves like Dig, Fly, or Bounce are called damaging-evasive (or D/E) moves. Instead of taking two actions, they enter the evasive stage at 0 priority, then exit the evasive stage and attack at -1 or -2 priority in the same action. This essentially allows them to dodge 0 priority moves from slower opponents, making them very useful attacks that you'll need to look out for."

Quarrel orders

Your sub counts as 2, right?

"Keep an eye out for Riolu's most threatening moves. Use your substitutions well!"

Quarrel orders

Even the Struggle did a fair bit of damage... Ralts, I'd appreciate if you could put on some pounds and gain some bulk.

In hindsight, it would've been better to Disable on action 2 so it lasts a bit longer, so I'll keep that in mind.

Anyway,

Draining Kiss ~ Psyshock ~ Draining Kiss
IF Riolu uses Dig, THEN use Double Team (2) the first instance and Calm Mind the second and third instances, pushing back actions.
IF Riolu uses a damaging Fire-type combo, THEN Protect, pushing back actions. Nonconsecutive.

This time with no illegal moves! Don't really know the best way to counteract Dig here, though; I figure setting Clones is good enough, but it feels awkward nonetheless. The other options that I can see are Shadow Sneak (which loses the damage race, obviously), a combo (which is exploitable), a P/E move (which I'd rather save for my second sub), or not DTeaming at all and just using Calm Mind (but I feel I might as well deter it a little bit with a miss chance). I'll go with this.

"When you're in a bad situation, sometimes, the best strategy is a tactical retreat."

Riolu @ Heart Scale
Agility (Evasive) | Circle Throw | Dig

"Agility and Teleport can both be used evasively in ASB. Agility (Evasive) and Teleport (Evasive) are Evasive moves. They'll avoid normal single target moves at +1 priority, but faster priority moves, perfect accuracy moves, and spread moves will still hit. The advantage to them is that they cost less EN than the Protect moves, Protect and Detect, do. Together, the Protective and Evasive moves form the P/E move class, which can be substituted for. Phazing moves like Circle Throw are important for creating and maintaining favorable match-ups. Match-ups are the key to success in ASB. In a bad match-up, even the most powerful Pokemon will struggle, but weak Pokemon can thrive in the right circumstances. Use moves like Dragon Tail, Whirlwind, Fire Spin, or Mean Look to gain match-up control."

"Good work. Time to use a combination to deal some last-minute damage. Same-move combinations have their BAP multiplied by 2.25, increasing their damage output by quite a bit. Different-move combinations add the BAPs of the two attacks together. Then, the two priorities are added together. If the result is 0 or less, subtract 2 to get the priority. Bullet Punch + Bullet Punch has +2 priority, while Poison Jab + Bullet Punch would have +1 priorty, and Poison Jab + Poison Jab has -2 priority."

"Encore is powerful, but there are a couple tools at our disposal to counter it. One of them is the Dodge command. It's normally an underwhelming +4 priority move that slightly decreases the accuracy of incoming attacks, but all Pokemon have access to it, and if successful, it'll make Encore fail, since commands cannot be encored. However, if a Pokemon has a large size class and low speed, Dodge may fail, so not every Pokemon can use Dodge to escape Encore."

"Congratulations on completing your very first battle in ASB. You did very well here and showed a strong understanding of the mechanics of the game. Looks like all that time you spent lurking helped you out. There are a couple of things you should look out for in the future as well. You've used Disable, but there are other threatening or disruptive moves, like Counter, Taunt, Torment, or Bide, which can ruin your strategies if you don't sub for them properly.

There's also switching: You can initiate a switch phase anytime you order first in a round, as long as you don't initiate them two rounds in a row (note that counter-switching or switching out with a self-switching move like U-turn don't count as initiating a switch phase). During a switch phase, you swap your active Pokemon out. Then, in most cases (unless your opponent is trapped by a move like Fire Spin or Mean Look), your opponent gets an opportunity to counter-switch and swap out their active Pokemon as well, if they choose to do so. However, if your opponent counter-switches, they will have to order first that round, so there's benefits and drawbacks to counter-switching."

"In a week or so, once you've gotten more used to the game, we'll start on the second match, where we borrow fully-evolved Pokemon from other players to give you a quick taste of high-level play."

"I hope you enjoyed our match and found ASB to be fun and engaging. Here are your rewards:"
