Interview with Floppy

I arrive in New York City and try to decipher the letter that says "meet me at the spot g" for my next interview. Knowing my next interviewee, vagueness should have been expected, but this is just ridiculous.

I decide to hit up the major tourist spots while I'm in town and stop off at this little hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Manhattan for dinner. As I get my food, a rather curious character rips himself away from a nice looking lady at the bar, sits down across from me, and says, "Didn't think you'd know where to look man. Let's do this."

Of course I find him when I'm eating, but such is my luck.

Whenever you're ready, let's start with you just telling me a little bit of who you are, where you live, what you like to do, etc.

Hmm. I'm Floppy. Really nice boy and fairly new Pokémon trainer! I live in NYC. And I like to play soccer and chess in my spare time, as well as engage beautiful women in conversation.

I hear there are lots of beautiful females in NYC, according to reputable source Aldaron.

Yeah dude, this is like the hub of hot women.

I catch him giving some eye signals to the girl at the bar, who comes over and drops something in Floppy's hand and then leaves the restaurant, turning to give him a wink as she walks out the door.

Have you lived in NYC all your life?

Nah, I moved here from some mystical land some 10 years ago. For all purposes though, you can say I'm from NYC!

Have you ever been to the Pokémon Center there, or are you a strict online battlemaster?

Strict online trainer. I did wander in there once with a friend of mine for kicks tho. Little did she know...

lol OK, so tell me a bit about Smogon. You joined in '05, how did you find it and where did you start?

I found Smogon by misclicking a Google search result actually. At the time I owned Gold and was trying to hack some broken shit to link battle with my friends. So, determined as I was, I hit up Google one day after deciding I was sick and tired of Getting Rekt. I put in a search for something similar to "Strong lv100 lugia and mewtwo", and it sent me a slew of results. The first link, Serebii, was what I had read and wanted to click. That obviously didn't happen. And thus,, Floppy Disk was born.

You're currently known as one of the most diverse players on the site, being versed in every generation and nearly every tier. What generation or tier got you hooked and what about playing competitive Pokémon do you like?

Hmm. Right now, I'd say ORAS OU has me a bit by the coattails. I'm a huge fan of whoring strong Pokémon, and as I'm sure you're aware, ORAS OU has a whole town full of them ;). The options are limitless, and I Love It! As for what I like about mons man, just everything. Teambuilding, battling (in-battle psychological elements, calculated risks, "hax", strategic thinking)....everything! Just how it all meshes together so seamlessly...that's what makes this game so enjoyable for me. There's no one element too...unbalanced, despite popular whining.

Would you change anything about the current OU tier?

That's a tough question to answer tbh. Hmm. It would depend on what basis. If for the sake of my own enjoyment, no. Because I feel it's fine at the moment. Otherwise, that's something I'd have to think more about depending on the context of the change and what the intended purpose/result is.

Tell me a little bit about SPL—you've been a part of the tournament since its inception, even winning your first match. What about the tournament appeals to you?

rofl, you funny ogles. Ah SPL... hmm. The biggest appeal of SPL for me? Perhaps the chance to team with and meet new, potentially strong battlers...and friends. I make new frens every SPL, some I never thought I'd ever befriend either, tbh.

How did you feel about the current RBY format? AND all the mechanic changes to RBY?

It was a solid improvement. And lol, F*K Crystal_

Floppy slams down his drink and utters a few more curses I can't quite make out.

On a serious note, the mechanic changes are pretty huge tbh. It's almost like learning a new metagame really, since strategies of olden times aren't as viable as they once were and power rankings have sorta shifted a bit. Chansey is no longer *just* a FAT PINK BLOB, it is now a FAT PNIK BLOB. lol oml;; * Floppy rolling

lol, would you say Tauros is the top mon still, or has he been replaced by Exeggutor?

I think they are both pretty equal at the moment. Perhaps Eggy gaining a slight advantage for overall utility.

Speaking of old gens, how excited are you for Smogon Classic?

VERY excited!!!!! Finally, my first trophy..........

I see a shiny gleam in Floppy's eye as he says it.

lol almost had OST this last year, making top 16. I can see a nice white trophy next to your name when Classic is all finished.

Same xD Though, I'm not too big on the white ~,~

Would you rather the rainbow trophy?

lol nah.

smh, rainbow 4lyfe. Last major question I wanted to ask is: Where did the name gorgie come from?

Floppy begins to kinda twitch like Bruce Banner before becoming the Hulk.

My,,,subconscious. Gorgie....is my Alter Ego. The super warrior. The...not so new guy.

All right, and the last question I need to ask is: What is your favorite Pokémon?

Of ALL time?

ye

Gengar

Interesting, here I thought you were gonna say Pikachu...

;;

not EVEN...Raichu...

nop

And before I can even say thanks for the interview, Floppy is already out the door, no doubt chasing whoever the foxy female was from earlier.
