Wobbuffet (In Progress)

[Overview]

It's Wobb. The same old 8 moves. Nothing special.

[SET]
name: Custap
move 1: Destiny Bond
move 2: Encore
move 3: Counter
move 4: Mirror Coat
item: Custap Berry / Leftovers
nature: Bold / Calm
evs: 28 HP / 252 Def / 228 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

How to Use Wobbuffet:
 • Counter against Physical Attackers
 • Mirror Coat against Special Attackers
 • Encore set-up sweepers
 • When low on health, use Destiny Bond. What happens is that Custap Berry will activate, and you will move first. Destiny Bond's effect does not end until Wobbuffet makes its move. Since Wobb is very slow, almost everything will outspeed it and either be forced to kamikaze or not attack, at which point Encore should be used to lock your opponent.
 • Bold Nature gives Wobbuffet the ability to take physical hits better, though Calm Nature is also viable. The EV Spread maximizes Wobb's defenses while gaining an extra point from Leftovers.

Any sturdy physical wall makes for a decent partner to Blissey. Examples include Slowbro, Gliscor, Amoongus, and Skarmory. Skarmory gets a special mention because of its ability to set up Spikes for Blissey as Blissey can force many switches with her excellent bulk. Speaking of hazards, any Pokemon that can set up entry hazards makes for a decent Blissey partner as she forces switches with her bulk. Some good users of entry hazards include, but are not limited to, Ferrothorn, Forretress, and Skarmory.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Once again, Shed Shell is the item of choice as it allows you to escape the wrath of Chandelure. If your team deals with Chandelure quite easily, then feel free to run Leftovers. The EV spread maximizes HP so that Blissey can make weakened Pokemon on your team healthy again. Maximum Defense investment is useful so that Blissey can take physical moves that aren't Fighting-type STABs. An EV spread of 252 Def / 252 SpD / 4 HP can be used if you're not concerned with passing enormous Wishes to your teammates.

[Other Options]

Blissey has a plethora of other moves that can be used. A Counter set can be used for surprising physical attackers and then OHKOing them with a Counter. Thunder Wave can be used over Toxic if you rather cripple switch-ins with paralysis as opposed to poison. Blissey has access to Ice Beam and Thunderbolt, but these special attacking options are generally outclassed by Flamethrower. A Calm Mind set consisting with Serene Grace consisting of Calm Mind / Flamethrower / Ice Beam / Thunderbolt can be used but is outclassed by Jirachi. Psych Up can be used for laughing at Substitute Calm Mind users who generally can set up all over Blissey.

[Checks and Counters]

Anything with a Fighting-type STAB will hit Blissey so hard that a RBY Chansey in the Safari Zone will whimper. This is including, but not limited to Breloom, Conkelldurr, and Terrakion. Swords Dance Scizor and Excadrill can set up on Blissey, only having to fear the uncommon Flamethrower. Toxic Spikes are an excellent indirect check to Blissey as it limits her ability to stay on the battlefield for a long period of time. Some examples of Toxic Spikes users are Roserade and Tentacruel. Trick users like Latios can cripple Blissey as she is incredibly reliant on Shed Shell to avoid the wrath of Chandelure, or Leftovers to give her consistent recovery. Keldeo is one of the only special attackers that can beat Blissey as her signature move, Secret Sword, targets Blissey's weak Defense stat. Forretress and Ferrothorn can set up hazards all over Blissey while only having to fear the rare Flamethrower.

 • 252 HP with another spread can also work.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Wobbuffet's only other option is Safeguard, which can be used in place of Destiny Bond to ensure Wobbuffet cannot be status'd.

[SET]
name: Anti-Stall
move 1: Encore
move 2: Safeguard / Tickle
move 3: Counter
move 4: Mirror Coat
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

 • Unlike the normal tank role of Wobb, this one takes advantage of Wobbuffet's base 33 Speed, which lets it sit at many defensive Pokemon that lack an offensive presence, such as Amoonguss, Chansey, Blissey, Ferrothorn.
 • Safeguard lets your offensive sweepers and Wobbuffet be free from hazards, especially random Toxics and WoWs/Scalds being flung in your direction.
 • Destiny Bond and Counter/Mirror Coat.

Timid Wobbuffet with 236 Speed outspeeds 0 Spe Skarm. This is to put into perspective as with Taunt, Skarm isn't exactly the best thing to try to outspeed. The next fastest thing worthwhile to outspeed is Blissey, which requires 128 Speed with a Timid nature.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This Wobbuffet set can be combined with Pursuit trappers by opting for Tickle users.

[Other Options]

Splash.

[Checks and Counters]

Not much can really counter Wobb. It's just that it gets revenge killed very easily. Scizor and Tyranitar offer checkmate positions with Pursuit, and the former can cause issues with U-Turn.

I'm open on testing out different EVs.

hey! we used this today lol XD (except that random 44 Spe)

i suppose i must be on topic as well: mention cutsap activates at 25% or less, which in the 252 HP case would be 584/4 whatever that number is

Just a suggestion - when you write this up, please mention some common attacks that will bring Wobb into Custap range [146 HP and less with 252 HP EVs].

Also mention that trying to trap Wobb with Chandelure is stupid - it can escape with Shadow Tag, or stay in and KO with Mirror Coat.

will do.

No standard set, as in 28 HP / 228 Def / 252 SpD Calm with Leftovers?
Leftovers is unnecessary as with the hard-hitters and (in my experience playing DW) fast-paced games, I've found Custap Wobb to be more efficient due to the dilemma Destiny Bond provides than gaining 6.25% health, which will probably be negated by hazards and other residual passive damage. If you can explain to me what that EV spread actually does, I wouldn't mind putting it in.

will do.
