A long time ago, back when DPP was the current gen, and there was no team preview, the above question was often asked. You had to be prepared for anything in that last slot and use your deductive teambuilding skills to figure out just what your opponent was saving in the back. Still today, we can use these skills to better build our own teams. When building, there will be times when you have 5 perfect Pokemon. Mons that fit together so well that you just can't seem to pick a final Pokemon. Or sometimes you have a crippling weakness to a major threat and can't think of a mon that will cover it that fits the team. This project aims to let the community figure out what the best last Pokemon would be for a given team of 5.

Every round, I will post a team that is missing one Pokemon. You guys will then post suggestions for the final mon. Over the next few days, these nominations will be discussed amongst the users until voting begins. Once the vote starts, people will choose the last mon that they think fits the rest of the team best. At the end of the round, the Pokemon with the most votes will be the winner! The team will be archived, and the user who suggested the set will have his or her name alongside the team. Think of this as a lesson in team building!

RULES:
1. Standard UU forum rules apply. No flaming/antagonizing please. Also no one liners please.
2. No joke sets. Sets that are plain bad/unviable are not welcome.
3. Don't be a jerk and flame the team / sets that people post.
4. Reservations are okay, as long as you post the set within 24 hours of posting the reservation.
5. No weird gimmicks. If you think a low-rated Pokémon should add on the team, please give an in-depth explanation, but non-viable mons like Flareon are not allowed.
6. Only minor slashing is allowed. Sometimes a coverage move or item is up to player preference, but you can't actually have 5 moves in a battle so don't go overboard.
7. Only one suggestion per round. Please only pick 1 Pokémon.
8. No changing the other members of the team, INCLUDING SETS. Only I can change the team and movesets.
9. Voting for your own nomination is NOT ALLOWED.
10. Please PM me on Smogon or PS! if you want to send in teams. I can't promise that your team will be featured but it's worth a shot, right?
11. Happy Posting!
12. You found the secret 12th rule!▲

This team is 6-0d by Dub Dance and even SubSalac Cobalion, which at this point sets up on most of the team, and it struggles to switch into Fighting-types in general, but especially Coba, Machamp, and Toxicroak. Of course, the Entei weakness is extremely glaring as well. CM Slowking provides an easy counter to all of these while also providing a secondary wincon and enjoying phenomenal synergy with Florges, both of which are huge pluses for this team.

Thanks to everyone who participated in week 9 of the previous iteration of UU What's His Last! Sacri' won the week in a landslide, getting a vote from all 9 voters for his Mega Aerodactyl submission. Congratulations!

Lord Esche - Rotom-Heat - 1
Sacri' - Mega Aerodactyl - 9
LeoLancaster - Escavalier - 3
SPEBSQSA - Espeon - 3

To kick off the revamp we have a team made by Eyan. Thanks! This team was built around a core of SpDef Mandibuzz + WishTech Sylveon (something pretty common a while back with Florges), supported by Toxic Spikes from Tentacruel. Cobalion was added as the team still needed Stealth Rock and was looking rather slow at the moment, while also providing pretty decent synergy. Mamoswine took the 5th slot as a much needed electric immunity, possessing wall breaking power that greatly appreciates Toxic Spikes as well as priority to patch up the lack of speed yet again. From here, the team does look pretty good, but there definitely are weaknesses. What could the last Pokemon be?

Mandibuzz @ Leftovers
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 240 HP / 172 SpD / 96 Spe
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Foul Play
- Taunt
- Knock Off

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature

- Protect
- Heal Bell

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 164 Def / 96 Spe

- Rapid Spin
- Toxic Spikes
- Acid Spray

Cobalion @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Close Combat

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

- Knock Off
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash

Submission Stage ends Friday. Happy posting!

Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain

the team loses to suicune or any bulky water in general. he isnt using a mega evo, and lacks a lot of speed. Mega Sceptile makes the most sense here. Celebi could work in theory, but the team is too slow for that to be the best option.

edit: sorry malin was already typing this up when u said that

rip lemme take that smart celebi then

Celebi @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Earth Power / Baton Pass

Ok so this team struggle really bad against fat waters aka Suicune, Alomomola and shit so NP Celebi works really well here. That's true without a mega-evo Mega Sceptile looks appealing but NP Celebi has some traits over Mega Sceptile, specially in Celebi's matchup against most stall and access to Natural Cure, making it a reliable water switch in. NP Celebi is also a great wincon alongside SD Cobalion and Mamoswine. Earth Power looks a better option than Dazzling Gleam here, to hit fat steels like Mega-Aggron and Doublades. Baton Pass is an option too since Sylveon is not using the BP slot and momentum is always appreciate.

Christo. wins this week with his Mega Sceptile submission. Congrats!

This week's team is built by newfren. Thanks! It's a bulky hazard stack team built around Dragalge and Mega Swampert. Chandelure and Whimsicott complete a FWG core with Chandelure blocking spin and Whimsicott checking Hydreigon which is a huge threat to the team as it was. It also offers speed control. Empoleon rounds out the team with Stealth Rock and a more reliable Sylveon check. What could the last Pokemon be?

Dragalge @ Draco Plate
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 188 HP / 252 SpA / 68 Spe

Submission stage runs through Friday. Happy posting!

Found this again, time to do stuff.
EDIT: This may be replaced soon, so keep that in mind if you want to say anything about it

Hitmonlee @ Life Orb
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Hi Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Bullet Punch / Rain Dance / Poison Jab
Going with a weirder pick this week, I chose Hitmonlee for what it adds to the team:
  • It's another stupidly powerful wallbreaker
  • It has Rapid Spin, which this team lacks. This was the biggest reason why I chose it.
  • Adds Fighting coverage, which reliably handles Normal-types, specifically Snorlax and Blissey
  • Adds Dark coverage in Knock Off and getting rid of items is always nice.
  • Bullet Punch is a nice priority move, while Poison Jab adds Poison coverage against Fairies like Sylveon that may switch in.
  • Rain Dance can be a nice move to have alongside Swampert, if you feel like you might not have time to setup Rain Dance with Swampert.
  • It's weaknesses are well covered. Empoleon takes on Flying and Fairy-types and both Empoleon and Chandelure take on Psychic-types
So yeah...
It was this or Mandibuzz, but I went with this considering the offensive nature of the team.

abuse dragons and dark types, since whims is your only switchin, abuse tspikes and abuse tricked mons. double priority for a somewhat slow team who kind have problems with mega-aero. also have a neat STAB on Close Combat c:

Sorry for the delay, week 3 will be posted when the suspect results are announced so it's clear which meta next week's team is for.

Malin wins with his Lucario. Congratulations!

This week's team features an offensive core of Nasty Plot Celebi, Pursuit Mega Aerodactyl, and Choice Specs Sylveon to break down and/or trap each other's checks to facilitate a sweep. Nidoqueen provides Stealth Rock and Milotic serves as a blanket check to a number of important threats. However, the team is still missing a few things... what could the last Pokemon be?

Celebi @ Leftovers

Reserving Entei

Entei @ Assault Vest / Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 HP / 8 SpDef (AV) or 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpDef (CB)
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
- Iron Head

This team lacks a few things that would make it perfect, all of which Entei can provide:
- Fire-type moves to deal with Ice and Steel-types that have their way with most of the team. With Entei, this is no longer a problem with it's powerful Sacred Fire. Also adds the ability to burn physical attackers that can punch a hole into the team when Milotic's gone.
- This team lacks priority. Entei's ESpeed fixes this, allowing it to revenge kill fast or set-up Pokémon.
- This team lacks Steel-type coverage, leaving only Nidoqueen's Sludge Wave to hit Fairies. Entei's Iron Head fixes this, allowing the team to hit Fairies on the Physical side, where most aren't very good at taking hits. The AV set can also take hits from offensive Fairies not named Granbull (or the rare Mawile), which gives the team some issues, especially if Nidoqueen is weakened
- The AV set adds extra bulk to the team, while the CB set adds a ton of power.

The team as listed as numerous issues: lack of a true Specs Sylveon switch in, lack of an offensive Whimsicott (of all things!) switch in, slightly weak to SubBounce Gyarados, very weak to LO Hydreigon with Iron Tail or Flash Cannon. Barring strong prediction by Sylveon, Bronzong is huge trouble for this team, since there is no Heal Bell protection for Milotic. Worst of all, the team is weak to stall outside of Celebi, and the lack of hazard control means almost an auto-loss if Sticky Webs goes down. While it's tempting to try to fix the stall weakness (SubCM Chandelure came to mind), ultimately SpD Empoleon does more for the team in more matchups, especially against hazard stacking (this team has a lot of trouble with SpD Forretress getting down Spikes) and LO Hydreigon, both of which are pretty common.

The set:

Empoleon @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 234 SpD / 20 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Grass Knot
- Ice Beam
- Defog

I added a small amount of speed creep because Empoleon's speed tier is a popular target for slow Pokemon, but you could do without it. Shuca is preferable over Leftovers because nothing else switches well into Krook.
