Project Ultra SM Break This Team - WK 48 SKEs tail glow manaphy Rain (Voting)

Voting is over and its time to announce the winner. This week we have a tie between Akumeoy with Toxapex and Vertex with Psychiciam Volcarona. Thank you to everyone who has participated this week.

Vote Tally

I Figured it was time for an aura veil team given how good they are right now. Variants have been Prominent on the ladder and OLT so I figured it was about time we worked out better ways of dealing with this thing. This varient is from the Sample thread but there are many with some swapping Cune for manaphy or T-tar for another mega. I expect Mega Diancie to be popular in this build when she is legal but for now we'll deal with this team team.

Explanation: The idea is simple set up veil as fast reliably possible, maybe rocks as well before setting up and going to town on the opposing team. Simple concept but one that serves offensive players fairly well. Ninetales is obvious setting up aura veil and chunking switch ins so that mons like Bolt beam duel dance magerna and Mega Tar have an easier time setting up. Zygarde enjoys the support this team provides. From there Suicune is taken as yet another win-con while offering backbone should things go south. Landorous rounds out the team setting up rocks and helping to break stall that would otherwise trouble team.

I'll try to get a replay but the teams common enough that it should be easy.

You may break this team with a single Mon or a core of 2. Ive liked results this week so I'm willing to try it once more. Try to keep standards high as demonstrated here. Dont have to be that high but thats prefered :) goodluck everyone

Kartana @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword

Kartana outspeeds the entire team save for Alolan Ninetales, with which it ties. Its unboosted attacks are problematic for the team, and it only gets worse at +2. In fact, that Speed tie with Alolan Ninetales is the only thing holding it back -- a conundrum, but not an insurmountable one. It can set up on Zygarde, Suicune if you're pro as fuck, and on predicted switches; however, this isn't strictly necessary, as its unboosted attacks can still heavily pressure the opponent.

The below calcs are all at +0; I'll save you the mental math and just tell you that Kartana slaps the team around if it hits +2, either from SD or from accumulated Beast Boosts.
252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Ninetales-Alola: 744-880 (212.5 - 251.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Ninetales-Alola: 240-283 (68.5 - 80.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Ninetales-Alola: 160-189 (45.7 - 54%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 130-154 (43.1 - 51.1%) -- 4.7% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 113-133 (37.5 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 84-99 (27.9 - 32.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 160-190 (42.5 - 50.5%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 126-148 (33.5 - 39.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 107-127 (28.4 - 33.7%) -- 0.5% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Kartana All-Out Pummeling (175 BP) vs. 76 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 208-245 (55.3 - 65.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leaf Blade and Hail.

252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 356-420 (104.3 - 123.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 266-314 (78 - 92%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 206-246 (60.4 - 72.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 338-398 (83.6 - 98.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 113-133 (27.9 - 32.9%) -- 83.4% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Suicune: 65-77 (16 - 19%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

-1 252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Landorus-Therian: 138-163 (43.1 - 50.9%) -- 3.1% chance to 2HKO
-1 252 Atk Kartana Smart Strike vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Landorus-Therian: 108-127 (33.7 - 39.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-1 252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Landorus-Therian: 46-54 (14.3 - 16.8%) -- possible 6HKO
As for support, Kartana enjoys having a slower Volt/Turn to get it inside, as well as a bulky pivot to go out to when it can't OHKO or take the incoming attack. If Spikes or Rocks are up, many of these calcs become more appealing, and Ninetales can't come in repeatedly to set up Aurora Veil or scare Kartana out.

If someone else wants to do Scarf Kartana, that's a valid choice too -- guaranteed to outspeed Alolan Ninetales, outspeeds anything on the team that hits +2, and can do a suicide Defog under certain circumstances. I ultimately picked SD Kartana because it's less prediction-reliant and can potentially just sweep the whole team outright.

CM Mega Diancie

Diancie-Mega @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid / Naive Nature
- Calm Mind
- Power Gem / Diamond Storm
- Moonblast
- Earth Power

Pretty much any Mega Diancie set has a ridiculously good matchup into Veil but CM in particular allows you to OHKO every mon on the team at +1 except for Suicune (yes, even Mega Tyranitar in sand will die), which is 2HKOed even with Protect to stall for another turn of Leftovers. Either Rock STAB will OHKO Alolan Ninetales unboosted but Diamond Storm can potentially net you a Defense boost if Ninetales wants to switch out, giving you more leeway with Lando / Zyg / Ttar.

If we get Webs next week I'm literally posting Mega Diancie again btw, this mon is great

Fair enough. I'm gonna steal it then :)

Reserving mega medi. Be done in the Hour. Then voting lol

Sets
Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Telepathy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bullet Punch
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt

Explanation:
Medicham applies huge pressure right from the preview, Capable of OHKOing and outspeeding everymember without a boost of this team baring suicune who dies after rocks anyway and Ninetales who dies to bullet punch anyway. Medi really only fears Zygardes E-speed. Everything else doesn't want to take a High-jump kick anyway so something is dieing whenever it gets in. Now Medi wont always win as some clever doubles to lando or sacking to get inimidate off and then Going to Ninetales/Magearna/Zygarde can force it out but the player really only gets one shot to do this so Having some support to get medi back in safely after such an event is paramount.

Healing wisher's like latias can give medi the 2nd shot it needs to Beat through the team while clef and Tangrowth can handle zygarde should it prove to troublesome.

Calcs

The basic idea of this team was to obliterate stall with this insane gliscor set while spikes+koko and lati are supposed to pressure offense and balance.
This gliscor set has beaten spl as well as ilovepinkmons and trump stall but it's kinda getting harder since some people are trying hard and changed sets such as the zap on ilovepinkmonsstall to fast hp ice which used to have heatwave.
The hardest matchup for this team is probably sticky web because it's very hard to win vs webs+pinsir+blast, fleur, bolt magearna+bisharp which the standard webs runs you literally have to put up tspikes and spikes and try to chip these down.
Birdspam, veil and tr are all kinda beatable if you outplay them enough you have to pressure them with koko+tspikes for the most part.
Rain also loses to pex+ferro+spikes too if you play decent enough.
Standard steela venu balance is also very beatable due to wi spikes+clef+pex+koko+gliscor, except for reuni, you have to beat that with gliscor, which would be easier if it had roost (cwl)

Magearna has a field day vs this team. Honestly, CM + BoltBeam can be used here too, but Fightinium Z is nice for Ferro if it can nab a surprise KO by bluffing BoltBeam. Tapu Koko running TT > GH helps, as it can no longer reliably kill Magearna without prior damage. The team is a bit too passive to deal vs it and it can snowball very quickly.

Bulu is here because it helps Magearna break down opposing Steels. Bar Heatran, the two have good synergy, with Bulu helping out with Grounds, which is important and gives Magearna the potential to set up on the likes of Gliscor and removing Koko's terrain. Bulu also happens to be a nuisance for the team, as even Latias fears switching in on +2 Bulu, and Ferro gets bopped by +2 Superpower. Not to mention that this set has been getting a bit more traction due to it dismantling TR and blunder's post in the OLT thread about it.

Specs Gengar really hurts this team a lot. The team has no solid ghost resist and everything outside of ferrothorn and toxapex are both 2 hit Ko'ed by shadow ball. Not only that but what specs gengar baits in to check, makes SD mega scizor really threatning late game while mega scizor also baits in toxapex and ferro. which are 2 things that specs gengar loves to captilize on

yeah so kyurem-black just ravages this entire team on it's own. all it needs is electric terrain up to 2HKO clefable with fusion bolt. tapu koko is the only immediate threat though considering it's a calm mind variant and is running fairium z, this can't really be helped but scarf koko brings electric terrain while being mildly annoying against the opposing koko since it's possible to 2hko it with thunderbolt on the switch-in and subsequent turn if rocks are in play. overall, kyu-b wrecks but koko needs to be eliminated

GnralLao thanks for koko's evs

This core should be familiar to most people. Suffice to say that, as usual, Bulu softens Earthquakes for Mega Diancie and gives it passive recovery with Grassy Terrain to offset chip damage.

Magic Bounce disrupts several moves on the team -- Spikes, Toxic, and Stealth Rock are all just a little bit harder to click after Mega Diancie mega-evolves (Spikes and Stealth Rock cuz the team has no hazard control, Stealth Rock and Toxic cuz Mega Diancie can set up on Clefable). Offensively, with Calm Mind, it can deal a lot of damage to most members of the team. Toxapex, Clefable, and Mega Latias can take chunks out of it, but mostly they're just annoyances -- the first two are reasonably safe to set up on, even. Tapu Koko outspeeds and can do substantial damage to Mega Diancie, but it can't switch in ever.

The two mons on the team that can switch into Mega Diancie and fuck it up are Gliscor and Ferrothorn, which eat any one move (or two moves, in Ferrothorn's case) and retaliate with a STAB. Tapu Bulu walls the two mons and eats up Leech Seed and Knock Off, and also doesn't care too much about Taunt. Meanwhile, it too can chunk most of the team, specifically setting up on Gliscor and Ferrothorn and then slapping them silly with the appropriate move. Or just clicking Wood Hammer after Ferrothorn's gone, cuz this team does not switch into Bulu.

Mega Diancie and Tapu Bulu can force the team-to-be-broken to make predictions and play aggressively right off the bat, lest it lose key mons to conservative play vs. these two powerhouses. And on a team with two mons that break 100 base Speed, that's not desirable.

=========

If someone else is looking for a submission, Psychium Z Volcarona and CM Mega Alakazam are good vs. the team as well.

You don't see Mamo nearly as often as you might have way back when, but man oh man, this mon just puts in so much work. Obviously getting Mamo in isn't the greatest thing, but once Mamoswine is one the field, anything but Ferro and Fable literally eats dicks. I'm including some calcs, to illustrate my point, with damage on Mamo vs. Mamo's damage output.

On Mamo
252 SpA Tapu Koko Twinkle Tackle (160 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mamoswine: 316-373 (87.5 - 103.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock [ONLY REALLY RELEVANT FOR LATER]
0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mamoswine: 147-174 (40.7 - 48.1%) -- 65.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
8 SpA Latias-Mega Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Thick Fat Mamoswine: 90-106 (24.9 - 29.3%) -- 0.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mamoswine: 124-147 (34.3 - 40.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Toxapex Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mamoswine: 156-186 (43.2 - 51.5%) -- 98% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Mamo damage
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Ice Shard vs. 244 HP / 0 Def Gliscor: 286-343 (81.2 - 97.4%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Latias-Mega: 307-367 (84.5 - 101.1%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 60 Def Toxapex: 283-335 (93 - 110.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 484-572 (172.2 - 203.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

There is the fact that Koko's Twinkle Tackle can potentially OHKO, and that Ferro stops this thing in its tracks, so how do you beat Ferrothorn? Easy, Magnezone. Magnezone not only traps Ferrothorn and allows Mamo to keep doing what it's doing, but it also threatens fable and Koko very very nicely. Specs Mag is chosen over AV or Sub if only because it has a better shot at getting rid of Ferro and Fable better.

Oh and this might be good,
252 SpA Tapu Koko Twinkle Tackle (160 BP) vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Magnezone: 114-135 (35.2 - 41.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Obvious hazard support and cleric support is really appreciated since Mamo lacks any recovery, but offensively, this core works like a dream against this team.

Reserving Psychium Z Volc

Volcarona @ Psychium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Psychic
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Psychium Z Volc is able to smash this team pretty easily. Volc gets set up opportunity vs Mega Lati, Ferro, and even Koko or Clef if you need one boost or don't mind getting toxic'd. At +1, Shattered Psyche blows away Toxapex, leaving the rest of the team hopeless vs Volc. Ferro and Koko get OHKO'd by +1 Fire Blast. Gliscor gets crushed by HP Ice. Clef almost dies to a +1 Blast, but the most it can do is toxic it, which may be too little too late at that point. Finally, while Mega Lati can take hits from Volc, it gives it free set up, since Tbolt does very little (that's the most it can do to it). So yeah, Volc is pretty good vs this team.

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Hidden Power Ice vs. 244 HP / 160 SpD Gliscor: 424-500 (120.4 - 142%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable: 303-357 (76.9 - 90.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 196+ SpD Toxapex: 342-404 (112.5 - 132.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 349-412 (124.1 - 146.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 168 SpD Ferrothorn: 844-996 (239.7 - 282.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO (did I even need to calc this lmao)

0 SpA Latias-Mega Thunderbolt vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 56-66 (18 - 21.2%) -- possible 5HKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 142-168 (39 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (+1 doesn't do too much, but lati gives volc set up)
