Rate My Team has a dedicated room on Pokemon Showdown. It has close relations with Smogon's RMT forum, and we're looking to develop a culture that caters to both people familiar with Smogon RMT as well as new PS users that get involved. Anyone is welcome to participate, both to seek advice and rate teams. As the room develops, we're going to be running various events, workshops, and tournaments to bring the room members closer to form a tight-knit community. We encourage all raters, both new and experienced, to participate in the room and its events.

New raters who consistently participate and help people with their teams in the room will be encouraged to also contribute to the RMT forum. People who already rate on Smogon and get involved on PS will earn more consideration for badges, although they will still have to reach a certain quality and quantity of rates on the forums. Our room also has good relationship with the Competitive Tutoring room, which has a similar basic premise to RMT. We occasionally collaborate and run workshops together.

Our philosophy is to develop a large, harmonious community within the room. We want to have a comfortable environment in which people can easily seek and provide advice. Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you in the room sometime!

-------------------

We also have our own Discord channel, where you can ask for rates in a live setting, ask for feedback on your rates from official TRs if you're an aspiring rater, and discuss rating activities, projects or anything else related to RMT. Enjoy yourself, and feel free to PM a moderator with any questions about the server!

PS Rules

For people posting their teams:
  1. Use http://pastebin.com/ to share your team's importable.
  2. Do not share your importable more than once, do not share too many teams at once, and do not harass people to rate your teams.
  3. Specify the tier your team is for.
  4. If your team is too far from the tier's standards, you'll be redirected to the Competitive Tutoring room.
  5. For any competitive battling advice that is beyond team rating, please refer to the Competitive Tutoring room.
  6. Don't post unfinished teams. This room is for providing advice on completed teams only. For teambuilding help, please refer to the Competitive Tutoring room.
  7. If you see that someone has posted a team just before yours, please don't post yours immediately. We don't want Pastebin links flooding the chat, as otherwise people won't be able to give focussed rates.
For the raters:
  1. Everybody can rate, but avoid rating in tiers that you're not familiar with.
  2. Make sure that your rating follows the basic guidelines detailed in the RMT forum rules (do not change the whole team, explain the reasoning behind every change etc.).
  3. Do not insist a change; people aren't obliged to agree with your suggestions.
  4. Refrain from helping if you aren't familiar with what you're talking about. Misguided information and poor advice can confuse people that need help. Instead, sit back and learn from what more experienced raters are saying.
How To Use Pastebin
  1. Head to the teambuilder. Click the team that you want rated.
  2. Hit the Import/Export button and you should see an importable text version of your team.
  3. Copy the text to pastebin.com / hastebin.com.
  4. If you are using Pastebin, submit the paste by clicking the “Create New Paste” button at the bottom of the page. If you are using Hastebin, submit the paste by clicking the save button (looks like a floppy disk) or clicking Ctrl + S on the keyboard.
  5. Finally, paste the new Pastebin / Hastebin link in the main chat for raters to review.

PS Workshops Introduction, FAQ & Logs

Introduction:

The RMT Room has been hosting workshops from time to time, so here’s a description as to what exactly these workshops are:

Workshops are events hosted by a handful of room auth who will either rate or build teams together in the chat. Prior to rating workshops, the host will ask users to PM them teams to be rated for that workshop’s tier. Once teams have been submitted, users will be chosen in order of teams sent, and will be temporarily voiced in the RMT Room while their team is being rated. Modchat is set to + so that regular users don’t interrupt the flow of the workshop. While rating teams, we would like to obtain feedback from the user who sent in the team, and will have them voiced in order for them to speak while modchat is set. Aside from that, a nice perk of these workshops is that users are able to see how team raters would rate a team live in chat, which may serve as a good example for users who wish to become team raters in the future. Logs of the workshop will also be posted afterwards here.

FAQ:

I. What tiers do you guys cover in the workshops?
  • Workshops are held for any official Smogon tiers that the PS RMT room staff (%, @, #) can rate. You can find information on our raters here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/rmt-on-ps.3546552/.
  • Since a workshop takes considerable planning and collaboration between multiple room staff members, the tiers for which we have more raters are the tiers which we host more workshops in. This is because it is simply not possible to host a battle spot triples workshop, for instance, if we only have one rater for that tier (which we don’t).

II. How frequently are workshops, and how will I know when one is approaching?
  • We try to host at least one workshop per month.
  • All workshops will be announced in this thread.
  • In addition, IronBullet will update the room intro with any notifications on upcoming workshops.

III. How do I submit a team for a workshop?
  • About 15 minutes prior to the workshop, there will be an announcement that will encourage those wanting to participate to submit their teams to the staff members who are participating in the workshop. Generally, if all or most of the official raters are on prior to a workshop, feel free to submit a team to them.
  • Also ensure that the team is viable. If you post a team that requires too many changes to rate, then it will most likely not qualify for rating in the workshop.

IV. How does a workshop work exactly? How is it different from rating a team in the chat normally?
  • Workshops are much more formal compared to the chat at normal times. We only rate one team at a time, and modchat is set in order to prevent flooding, spam and general disruption to the event.
  • When it is your turn to have your team rated, you will be temporarily promoted to room voice (until your rate is finished). From there, room voices and staff will rate your team in detail.
  • Be prepared to explain a lot more about your team compared to normal rating in the chat. This is because these rates are a lot more focussed and detailed, and as such require more discussion by all parties.

V. How long are workshops?
  • Workshops are usually completed in about two hours.
