RU Registeel

[OVERVIEW]

Registeel's bulk lets it easily wall and check many specially offensive Pokemon in the tier like Comfey, Swellow, Diancie, Roserade, and Dragalge while serving as a blanket check to many Pokemon that can only hit it neutrally, especially with special attacks. This, in tandem with access to helpful utility moves such as Stealth Rock, also allows it to be a very consistent entry hazard setter. Registeel can also cripple opposing Pokemon with status without ever being overly passive, as it can stall with Protect and Toxic and deal solid damage with Seismic Toss. On the other hand, its typing means that it is weak to the ever-common Ground-, Fire-, and Fighting-types, specifically being pressured by Salazzle, Flygon, Zygarde-10%, and Pangoro with their super effective STAB moves and common coverage moves such as Focus Blast and Earthquake. In addition, it is susceptible to Taunt, which makes it susceptible to Pokemon like Chesnaught and Mismagius.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Seismic Toss
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Protect
item: Leftovers
ability: Clear Body
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Seismic Toss does a solid 100 HP of damage to anything that isn't a Ghost-type, allowing Registeel to dish out decent damage or break Substitutes of Pokemon that may try to set up on it. Toxic is used in tandem with Seismic Toss to whittle down the array of bulky Pokemon in the tier such as Porygon2, Slowbro, and Umbreon. Stealth Rock is mandatory to pressure Pokemon switching in while breaking Focus Sash and Sturdy, making teammates have an easier time cleaning up late-game. Protect has a multitude of uses, such as stalling for extra damage from Toxic and recovery from Leftovers, scouting for Choice items, and cushioning Z-Moves that may otherwise outright KO Registeel. Iron Head can be used over Seismic Toss to hit certain Pokemon that may completely wall Registeel otherwise such as Froslass, which it 2HKOes with no investment.

Set Details
========

Running 252 EVs in HP and Special Defense along with a Calm nature maximizes Registeel's special bulk, but if Iron Head is being used, a Careful nature should be run instead. Leftovers is used to mitigate Registeel's lack of recovery and help it stay out for longer on the field. Clear Body is chosen to avoid stray stat drops from moves such as Shadow Ball and Psychic and, if using Iron Head, the Attack drop from Intimidate.

Usage Tips
========

Stealth Rock should be set up as early as possible to start racking up chip damage, heavily damaging Fire-, Bug-, and Flying-type Pokemon such as Moltres, Salazzle, and Yanmega, limiting their use in play. Switch Registeel into foes that cannot do much to it, such as Dragalge, Jolteon, Cresselia, and Diancie, in order to force them out, allowing it to get Stealth Rock up or take advantage of status. However, be wary of super effective coverage moves such as Focus Blast from Hoopa and Zoroark, as, despite Registeel's special bulk, it will still take a measurable chunk of damage from them. While it can take neutral physical hits fairly well, do not switch Registeel into them too often, as lack of Defense investment along with no recovery outside of Leftovers means it will get worn down fairly fast. Make use of Protect to stall out turns of Toxic damage along with PP and to heal with Leftovers while scouting for possible Choice items, but do not overuse it, as it may lead to free switches.

Team Options
========

Cresselia, Gligar, and Golbat are all good checks to Fighting-types, with the latter two helping Registeel's longevity by removing entry hazards with Defog, while Cresselia can deal with Pokemon like Salazzle and Chesnaught slightly better. Chesnaught's natural physical bulk and resistance to Ground-type attacks mean that it can take on the physical hits, such as Thousand Arrows from Zygarde-10%, that Registeel may not want to stay in on, and access to Taunt and Spikes allows it to keep Stealth Rock on the field while setting up more hazards alongside it. Umbreon provides Wish and Heal Bell support, upping Registeel's longevity while serving as a check to Nidoqueen. Rotom-H's Levitate allows it to switch in on opposing Ground-type moves with no drawbacks, and, thanks to its Fire typing, it can take on other Pokemon that wall or threaten Registeel such as Doublade, Escavalier, and Mega Abomasnow. Rotom-H's access to Volt Switch further means that it can safely bring in Registeel on a predicted switch while damaging the foe, and its Will-O-Wisp helps Registeel take on more of the physical attackers in the tier. Araquanid is a more offensive partner, but due to its resistances to all of Registeel's weaknesses and Water Bubble, it can come in on a wide variety of moves that threaten it and can often force their users out or outright KO them, while Registeel supports it by taking the Flying-, Rock-, and special Electric-type moves that it fears.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thunder Wave can be used to cripple faster threats like Moltres and Durant on the switch, but, as a consequence, Registeel becomes more passive, as it loses out on the damage from Toxic, becoming unable to do anything to a status-afflicted Ghost-type. Curse can be used alongside Iron Head with the same EV spread with a Careful. Rest and Sleep Talk can be used in order to somewhat mitigate the lack of reliable recovery, but it's usually not worth what you're giving up for it. Earthquake can be used to KO the Fire-types Registeel lures in such as Salazzle, which may try to set up Nasty Plot, expecting you to switch out.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Ground-types**: Flygon, Rhyperior, and Zygarde-10% can all 2HKO Registeel with their Ground-type STAB moves or start setting up on a predicted switch out. Gligar is also immune to both Thunder Wave and Toxic by virtue of Immunity and can dent Registeel quite a bit with Earthquake. Ground-type coverage such as Earthquake from Mega Abomasnow can also damage it sufficiently.

**Fire-types**: Salazzle, Moltres, and Rotom-H can all heavily damage Registeel with their powerful Fire-type STAB moves, and Ninetales can OHKO it using Inferno Overdrive boosted by Drought. However, Fire-types don't like taking Stealth Rock damage, and the former two are crippled by Thunder Wave.

**Fighting types**: Kommo-o, Chesnaught, Bewear, and Pangoro can all heavily damage or cleanly OHKO Registeel with their respective STAB moves, depending on the Pokemon's set or chip damage, and can force it out very easily. None like Thunder Wave, but Chesnaught can shut it down with Taunt, and Pangoro may hold a Lum Berry.

**Status-Immune Pokemon**: Pokemon immune to Toxic or Thunder Wave, such as Escavalier, Durant, and Doublade, have an easy time setting up on and proceeding to outright KO Registeel. Substitute users such as Hoopa are also unable to be inflicted with status and, in any Ghost-type's case, cannot have Substitute broken by Seismic Toss.

**Taunt**: Taunt users like Sableye, Mismagius, and Chesnaught can completely shut down Registeel, forcing it out or leaving it incapable of doing anything but using Seismic Toss.

not ru qc but you asked on discord for help so figured i'd throw 2 cents in regards to the overview which can be pretty tricky for newer writers.
[OVERVIEW]

* 80/150/150 Bulk means that it can easily wall Pokemon like Comfey, Swellow, Espeon, Florges and Diancie. This also allows it to be a very consistent rocks setter, finding many opportunities to setup rocks. No need to list the stats, the dex has them right above the overview.
* Due to its steel typing, it is immune to Toxic and resistant to rocks meaning it won't get worn down as fast. I wouldn't necessarily agree with this, Registeel has no form of reliable recovery outside of Leftovers and despite resisting SR, it can be worn down pretty quickly by repeated attacks and Spikes.
* Access to moves like Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave and Toxic help it play a better Utility role and stop it from being as passive.
* Because of its sub-par 75/75/50 offensive stats it suffers from a lack of offensive presence means it can easily be set up on, or have rocks cleared by Pokemon such as Flygon or Nidoqueen. Again, stats aren't really needed.
* Faces competition from many other Pokemon as a rocks setter; Nidoqueen has more offensive presence, Donphan can also act as a spinner and has support moves like Knock Off, Uxie can pivot with U-Turn.
*Typing mean it’s weak to the ever common Ground, Fire and Fighting Types, like Nidoqueen, Salazzle and Heracross and common super effective coverage like Focus Blast Hoopa and Meloetta.
* It is very easy to force out and wear down, as it is very vulnerable to Taunt, and its move set isn't effective against many Pokemon, like Doublade and Gligar; if it loses Leftovers, wearing it down becomes even easier. You mention earlier how it "won't get worn down fast" but here you say the opposite of that.
Aside from this just remember to include periods at the end of all your sentences and make sure everything is properly spaced when you get this into qc.

Not QC, but few things I'd personally change, QC can approve/veto w/e:

  • Probably worth mentioning Dragalge as a defensive teammate, as Registeel is setup fodder for Salazzle. Pairs nicely to create a hazard stack core as Drag gets t-spikes and d-tail for even more residual damage.
  • Same vein, probably worth mentioning another ground immunity other than Flygon. Mantine/Gligar would fit here, both resist fighting + Defog Spikes/Rocks which Regi hates. Chesnaught probably worth a mention as well, as it quad resists ground, defends Regi's rocks w/ taunt, and can tank physical hits your Regi doesn't want to stay in on.
  • Earthquake probably worth an other options mention, as it can lure Salazzle trying to Nasty Plot on the switch.
  • Mention Umbreon in Wish Passers, mention it also has heal bell to cure burn.
  • For Taunt users, include Mismagius. Try to squeeze in Substitute users like Hoopa under something like status immune, as w/ a sub up Regi is setup fodder for Hoopa.
  • Thunderbolt probably not worth a mention; you already beat Mantine with just Toxic. It'll be defogging on you anyways as its naturally faster, no point in dropping any of Regi's moves for something that only prevents the defog on a switch (in which case you could just toxic and rock spam).
  • For Protect uses, mention z-moves in some way as protecting on a z-move can be very useful.
  • Remove Heracross/Nidoqueen mentions :p, I'd replace Nidoqueen mentions with Rhyperior.
  • Remove houndoom from fire types, mention Moltres.

Thanks for the input on this; I (should) have added all of these points somewhere now; it's a little outdated since I started a while ago hence why Hera and Queen were in there, hopefully QC comes round soon.

* Access to moves like Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave and Toxic help it play a better Utility role and stop it from being as passive.

*Typing mean it’s weak to the ever common Ground, Fire and Fighting Types, like Flygon, Moltres and Pangoro and common super effective coverage like Focus Blast Hoopa and Meloetta.
* While being immune to Toxic it is still very vulnerable to being worn down, as Leftovers its only form of recovery.
* Registeel is very passive due to it being very reliant on status and Seismic Toss to do any sort of damage.
- You should have better examples than the mons you mentioned. Comfey and Swellow are good, but also include Dragalge, Linoone, Roserade instead of Espeon/Florges/Diancie. Also reflect this throughout the analysis, you have a bunch of Pokemon mentioned that aren't as relevant as others. Try to always use the best Pokemon in the tier first for your examples, before considering anything else. (Look at the Viability Rankings if you need help)
- Remove the part about bronzong, registeel is so much better and does its job way more reliably.
- Remove the part about being worn down easily, this might be true when you look at it from an outside perspective but it really isn't when you actually use him.. in practice, it's somehow different.
- Remove the last point entirely, toxic and seismic toss are plenty enough to not be passive at all, and that also contradicts an earlier point saying regi isn't passive. Instead, mention how its reliance on protect can sometimes mean it can give free turns, also mention Taunt as a weakness, especially from the likes of Mismagius and Chesnaught.

In usage tips, put a point about using Protect as often as possible in tandem with Toxic to stall out the opponent and get that sweet, sweet 6% hp, and it also helps drain out PP. Do mention how it can be taken advantage of by giving free turns though.

Restructure c&c so its like this:

**Counter 1**: etc etc

don't put it in bulletpoint format that's not needed.

Do all of the above and its QC approved 1/3

sorry for the 4 months delay lol

"Counter 1" was just an example you shouldn't literally call them that ;_; sorry if I didnt make it clear, you still need to name the categories

also mention Chesnaught as a Taunt user in the last poit

I've done what you've requested, though I've cross checked the format after changing mine a bit I'm still not 100% sure if it's correct, so a second pair of eyes would be appreciated. Thanks for the feedback.

The format is correct but in the EVs portion write them out like this: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD

Since you have 2 checks now you can go and write up the analysis

Remove thunder wave from overview, it's only mentioned in OO and its a much inferior option to toxic.

Add Zygarde-10% mentions whenever necessary, as well as mega abomasnow.

for team options remove sweepers and add things like golbat (checks fighting types), umbreon (checks queen), cresselia, chesnaught etc. defensive mons. beef up team options tbh, it's lacking a bit right now.

In overview you say "without being overly passive", specifically mention that it's not passive because of seismic toss + protect/toxic stalling

I'd also like a mention on how its bulk lets it blanket check a lot of shit that hits it neutrally maybe?

**Ground-(AH)types**: Flygon, Rhyperior, (AC) and Zygarde-10% can all 2HKO Registeel with their Ground STAB moves or start setting up on a predicted switch out, (RC) (AP). None like Thunder Wave, but mind that Chesnaught can shut it down with Taunt, and Pangoro may hold a Lum Berry.

**Status Immune Pokemon**: Pokemon immune to Toxic and/or Thunder Wave, such as Escavalier, Durant, (AC) and Doublade, (AC) have an easy time setting up on and proceeding to outright KO' (remove apostrophe) Registeel. Substitute users such as Hoopa are also unable to be inflicted with status and, (AC) in any Ghost Type's Ghost-type's case, (AC) cannot have Substitute broken by Seismic Toss.

**Taunt**: Taunt users like Sableye, Mismagius, and Chesnaught can completely shut down Registeel, forcing it out or leaving it incapable of doing anything but using Seismic Toss.

[OVERVIEW]

Registeel's bulk means that it can easily wall and check many specially offensive Pokemon in the tier like Comfey, Swellow, Diancie, Roserade, (AC) and Dragalge while serving as a blanket check to many Pokemon that can only hit it neutrally;(RSC) (AC), especially on the special side with special attacks. This, (AC) in tandem with access to helpful utility moves such as Stealth Rock, (AC) also allow allows it to be a very consistent rocks Steath Rock setter, finding many opportunities to set up. (AP) (splitting sentence here, as they have different ideas) and crippling It can also cripple opposing Pokemon with status, (RC) without ever being overly-(RH) passive, (AC) as it can stall with Protect and Toxic and deal solid damage with Seismic Toss. On the other hand, (AC) its typing means that it is weak to the ever-(AH)common Ground-(AH), Fire-(AH) (AC), and Fighting-types, being pressured by Salazzle, Flygon, Zygarde-10%, (AC) and Pangoro with their super (space) effective STAB moves, (RC) and common coverage moves such as Focus Blast and Earthquake, (RC) (AP). In addition, because of due to its Registeel's reliance on status, it makes it is susceptible to Taunt, (AC) which, (AC) as a consequence, makes it susceptible to common users of the move moves, (RC) like Chesnaught and Mismagius.

Seismic Toss does a solid 100 HP of damage to anything that isn't a ghost Ghost-(AH)type, allowing it to dish out decent damage or break Substitutes of those Pokemon that may try to set up on it, (RC) (AP). Toxic is used in tandem with Seismic Toss to whittle down the array of bulky Pokemon in the tier such as Porygon2, Slowbro, and Umbreon. Stealth Rock is mandatory to create pressure on Pokemon switching in, (RC) while breaking Focus Sash Sashes and Sturdy, making it so that teammates have an easier time cleaning up late-(AH)game. Protect has a multitude of uses, such as stalling out extra damage from Toxic and recovery from Leftovers, scouting for Choice items sets, (AC) and for cushioning Z-Moves that may otherwise outright KO it.

The EV Spread is pretty straight-forward, (fluff) 252 EVs go into in HP and SpD Special Defense along with a Calm Nature to maximize special bulk, but however, (RC) if Iron Head is being used, (AC) a Careful nature should be used run (repetition) instead. Leftovers are is used to mitigate its lack of recovery and help it stay out for longer on the field. Clear Body is chosen to avoid stray status stat drops from moves such as Shadow Ball and Psychic, and, (AC) if using Iron Head, the Attack drop from Intimidate.

Usage Tips

Stealth Rock should be set up as early as possible to start racking up chip damage earlier on (repetitive), taking large chunks off of heavily damaging Fire-(AH), Bug-(AH) (AC), and Flying-type Pokemon such as Moltres, Salazzle, (AC) and Yanmega (RC), limiting to limit their use in play. Switch Registeel into foes that cannot do much to it, such as Dragalge, Jolteon, Cresselia, and Diancie, in order to force them out, allowing you it to get rocks Stealth Rock up, (RC) or take advantage of status, though be wary of super effective coverage moves such as Focus Blast from Hoopa or and Zoroark, as, despite its Registeel's special bulk, it will still take a measurable chunk of damage from them. While it can take neutral physical hits fairly well, do not switch into them too often, as lack of defence Defense investment along with no recovery outside of Leftovers will means it will get worn down fairly fast. Make use of Protect to stall out turns of Toxic damage along with PP, (RC) and to heal with Leftovers, (RC) while scouting for possible choice sets Choice items, but however, (RC) do not overuse it, as it may lead to free switches.

Registeel appreciates the defensive synergy supplied by various Pokemon in the tier in order to help it have an easier time out on the field. (fluff) Cresselia, Gligar, (AC) and Golbat are all good checks to Fighting-types, with the latter two can help helping Registeel's longevity by removing hazards with Defog, (AC) while Cresselia can deal with Pokemon like Salazzle and Chesnaught slightly better. Chesnaught's natural physical bulk and resistance to Ground-type attacks means that it can take on the physical hits, (AC) such as Thousand Arrows from Zygarde-10%, (AC) that Registeel may not want to stay in on such as Thousand Arrows from Zygarde-10%, and access to Taunt and Spikes means that it can keep Stealth Rocks on the field while setting up alongside them. Umbreon supports Registeel by provided providing Wish and Heal Bell support, upping its longevity, (RC) while serving as a check to Nidoqueen. Rotom-H's Levitate allows it to switch in on opposing Ground-type moves with no drawbacks, and, (AC) thanks to its Fire typing, (AC) it can take on other Pokemon that wall or threaten Registeel such as Doublade, Escavalier, (AC) and Mega Abomasnow, (RC) (AP). Rotom-H's access to Volt Switch means that it can safely bring in Registeel on a predicted switch while damaging the foe, and Will-O-Wisp helps Registeel take on more of the physical attackers in the tier after they've been inflicted with a burn. Araquanid is a more offensive partner, but, (AC) due to its resistances to all of Registeels Registeel's weaknesses and Water Bubble, it can come in on a wide variety of moves that threaten it Registeel and more than often force them out or outright KO them, while Registeel supports it by taking the Flying-(AH), Rock-(AH) (AC), and special Electric-type moves that it fears.

Thunder Wave can be used to cripple faster threats like Moltres or and Durant on the switch, but, (AC) as a consequence, (AC) it becomes more passive, (AC) as it loses out on the damage from Toxic, becoming unable to do anything to a status afflicted ghost Ghost-(AH)type. Curse can be used with the same EV spread alongside with a Careful nature, (AC) allowing it to take physical hits better, (RC) and deal more damage with Iron Head, (AC) if running it. Iron Head can be used over Seismic Toss to hit certain Pokemon that may completely wall it such as Frosslass Froslass, whom which it 2HKO's 2HKOes with no investment. Curse can be used with the same EV spread alongside a Careful nature allowing it to take physical hits better, and deal more damage with Iron Head if running it however it takes a few boosts to get going. (curse was already mentioned in the last sentence) Rest and Sleep talk can be used in order to somewhat mitigate the lack of reliable recovery, however, (RC) but it's usually not worth what you're giving up for it, (RC) (AP). Earthquake can be used to KO the Fire-types Registeel lures in as a lure to Fire Types (pokemon is the lure, move that koes isn't) such as Salazzle that who may go about setting up Nasty Plot, expecting you to switch out.

Checks and Counters

**Ground-(AH)types**: Flygon, Rhyperior, (AC) and Zygarde-10% can all 2HKO Registeel with their Ground STAB moves or start setting up on a predicted switch out, (RC) (AP). Gligar is also immune to both Thunder Wave and Toxic by virtue of Immunity and can dent it Registeel quite a bit with Earthquake. Ground-type coverage such as Earthquake from Mega Abomasnow can also damage it sufficiently.

**Fire-(AH)types**: Salazzle, Moltres, (AC) and Rotom-H can all heavily damage Registeel with their powerful Fire-(AH)type STAB moves, and Ninetales can OHKO with Z-Fire Blast Inferno Overdrive boosted by Drought, (RC) (AP). However, Fire-types they don’t like taking rocks Stealth Rock damage, and the former two are crippled by Thunder Wave.

**Fighting types**: Kommo-o, Chesnaught, Bewear, (AC) and Pangoro can all heavily damage or cleanly OHKO Registeel with their respective STAB moves, depending on the Pokemon's set or with some chip damage, (AC) and can force it out very easily.

Thanks for the input, by the way. There were some parts where I thought you forgot to turn a word blue, like Defence and Defense, But I think I got those sorted myself.

Running 252 EVs in HP and Special Defense along with a Calm nature maximizes Registeel's special bulk, but if Iron Head is being used (if it's worth mentioning here then it's worth mentioning in the Moves section. if it's not worth mentioning in Moves then it also shouldn't be here. either move the Iron Head sentence in Other Options to the end of Moves or remove the two Iron Head mentions here and instead mention using a Careful nature in the Iron Head sentence in Other Options), a Careful nature should be run instead. Leftovers is used to mitigate Registeel's its lack of recovery and help it stay out for longer on the field.
