What is Smogon Social Media?

Smogon Social Media includes all of the community's official social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Twitch. These media facets aim to promote the goings-on within the community in an effort to educate the general public on higher level competitive Pokemon and coerce them into joining our forum. We'll be using this section to bring all potential contributors together as well as offer a place to check for upcoming livestreams on Twitch and recent Youtube video uploads.

How you can contribute to Smogon Social Media!

There are several ways you can help us out here. Each media account has at least one thread devoted to it in this section, so I urge you to check those out for more information, as I'm going to only briefly touch on each one here.

- Facebook: This is the largest and most active of the accounts. Posts that go up on Facebook are typically in-depth (but in so much detail as, say, an on-site article) competitive analyses of a Pokemon or a nuance/"trick-of-the-trade" in a given official Smogon tier. Pokemon of the Week is by far the most popular of everything posted to the page; these are essentially truncated versions of SmogDex analyses. Trainer Tips, Flying Press articles, and VGC news are among the other popular things posted to the page. You're free to try your hand at writing the former two things by checking this thread!
- Twitter: This is the black sheep of our social media presence. Tweets can be hit-or-miss, but I'm open to posting anything that anyone thinks would be funny or informative. You're encouraged to post tweet ideas in this thread.
- Youtube: Everyone loves spoken versions of what they're too lazy to read! Youtube is rising in popularity, in no small thanks to our new pool of hard-working contributors, and you can be one, too! Aspiring content creators with small channels can now have their work featured on SmogonU's Youtube by submitting it privately to all of antemortem, Zodiax, and PoMMan. We recommend first sending in a script so that it can be proofread before the video's made to avoid having to remake the video every time.
- Twitch: Our livestream presence is also an always growing front. We stream high level tournament matches, such as Smogon Tour finals and Grand Slam Playoff matches, often and promote the frequent updates on the standings of metagames by means of Smogcasts. Getting a spot to stream on Twitch is a bit more difficult, but PM antemortem with a solid enough reasoning and demonstrate keen stream/commentating ability and you'll be a shoe-in.
- Instagram: A new and exciting way to enjoy Smogon! User submitted art or exciting announcements will be showcased here! If you would like to contribute to Instagram feel free to PM Zodiax and Recreant

Who are the social media staff?

There are a group of people that have administrative or posting power on multiple accounts so that they're kept as active as ever and no holes are left uncovered. For other social media badgeholders, check out this page.

Can I earn anything for contributing to Youtube?

Of course! The Youtube badge standards (
) encourage long term contributions, short term activity, and video quality. There is also a new incentive for any top contributors to the channel in the form of a banner!

4 videos is the minimum requirement to earn a badge for Youtube work. 3 videos in a 6 week period, however, will also qualify a user for the badge. Additionally, if the total view count on all a users videos is greater than or equal to half the number of current subscribers, the user qualifies for the badge regardless of video number. Alumnus can be earned after 8 videos are created.

We're bringing back the Smogon Youtuber postbit banner for contributors that continually go above and beyond. To earn this banner, one must have a badge for Youtube, and be making videos on roughly a weekly basis.

Congrats to PoMMan and shui3 for being the first to receive these banners this time around for their exceptional work!

One can now obtain the Social Media Contributor Badge by producing high quality scripts for Youtube videos that require minimal editing from the Social Media Staff on a frequent basis.
  • One must write a minimum of 6 scripts to be eligible for the Social Media Contributor badge.
  • Social Media Contributor is an activity based badge, so a new script at least every 2 months would be required for the badge to be retained.
  • 12 scripts will be the minimum required for those looking to obtain Social Media Alumnus for Youtube script contributions.
In order to contribute scripts, simply send them to myself, antemortem, and Mambo. In addition, you can approach people who are making the videos and write scripts for them, so long as we are aware of it.
