Hey all, just a team dump thread here for this years SPL I was apart of. I actually wanna pre-face this with a little bit of things that happened with this season. Going into this season, I wasn't even sure if I would sign up at all. Between IRL commitments and trying to focus on VGC still, it looked pretty difficult to me to commit time to SPL this time around. I ended signing up on a whim, but definitely did not expect to get picked up. Generally teams don't want to dump hard into dubs options for subs and I really doubted my chances to get picked up as a starter. Mind you, before the draft officially happened, I had not played a single game of SM DOU. I figured there'd be some teams that go "ol' reliable" picks, but other options just seemed better to me. Yet the draft happened, and I ended up on the Indie Scooters.

I was a scooter in the previous year, so it was nice to be around some friends again, but I was in a pickle of sorts. They had no other DOU main and no money for a midseason pick up. I did something similar to this last year though, and I have been keeping somewhat up to date via VGC but DOU is such a different beast. I spent the weeks between the draft and week 1 studying the hell out of replays to find ideas and catch common meta trends. Drafting some teams, I realized back to my old problem of no one to test with. I don't like going out of my way to find testing partners, and my usual ones were just as lost as me. But to my surprise, we actually had obii on the team who's the fucking GOAT when it came to scooters testing this year. We did some games with the teams I had, and he smashed me pretty hard for like 10 games straight. Not gonna lie, I was pretty shook but I realized a lot in that time to put myself back into the groove of things. I'll admit, at this point, I still wouldn't say I had the best grasp on building but I think did well enough to get by to start SPL.

So eventually power rankings go up, and I find myself at #9 on the list. Considering everything I had going into this season, I'd say it was kinda fitting. My only gripe I had was ranking Zach so much higher when he had the same exact stigma behind him. Not saying you should always rank high for past experience, but at the very least it should count for something when the only guy below has not even played the tier before. Either way, it was out there so all I could do was use it as extra motivation to do well.

Anyway, ended up 8-3 this SPL which I'm more than happy about with all things considered. Going from not expecting to get drafted to where I ended up. Again, really only person I have to shoutout this year obii and the other scoots for help. I didn't reach out at all when it came to testing out ideas except for week 3 when Braverius suggested Groundium Metagross. Overall I had a ton of fun this SPL, thanks so much to the scooters for picking me up again. Not gonna do individual shoutouts but you guys were amazing <3

Hoping for scoots to pull out the victory in the tie breaker. Regardless this season was a blast. SPL has usually been pretty fun in the past, but this season was especially good for some reason. Thanks for reading and see yall later

I've so wanted to build a team with Togedemaru on it and huge props to you for bringing one in finals. What was your thought process behind that team? Was Togedemaru actually an intended mon, or was it added last when looking for Fake Out + protection for Zard from electrics? Were you super confident majorbowman wouldn't bring Stealth Rock? 2 sash users and a zard-y is ballsy in that respect.

It was one of the first mons on that team. Terravile was actually the last thing to be added to the team. I wanted a mon that could finish off a weakened Lando and help out with Mence, so I threw in Weavile over.... I actually don't remember. I was left with the last slot that I knew I wanted to be a fighting type so I just ended up with Terrakion. It was mostly intended to have a more positive match up vs Fini/Zapdos stuff, but also leaves Koko to next to useless with it on the field. I was running Encore on it for a bit, but opted for Volt Switch after some scenarios where the momentum shift would've been really nice due to defensive switches that Encore tends to create. If bowman brought rocks vs me then.....props to him. I don't think I really used any SR weak teams this SPL, and I only used Zard that 1 time in finals. It just didn't seem likely to see out of bowman, especially considering the best setter rn is Lando and he's never used it.

It was definitely a risky team, but I was lucky enough to pull a good match up for it. Hoopa had a good chance to KO his Amoonguss and Terrakion had a good chance to KO the Hoopa, but luckily I ended up getting the flinch after that stuff went the other way. I was actually trying to do as many tests as possible because I wanted someone to convince me not to use this team, but no one could. Glaring SR weakness aside, I do think this is a decent team so I'm glad it could get shown on the big stage
