Poison
========

[OVERVIEW]

Nidoking is one of Poison's premier attacking options, sporting ridiculous coverage and power due to the combination of Sheer Force and Life Orb. It acts as a wallbreaker, especially in the matchup against Steel. Once Heatran's Air Balloon is gone, the combination of Earth Power and Flamethrower decimates Steel teams. Nidoking's access to BoltBeam coverage allows it to beat Flying on its own, although it usually forgoes Thunderbolt. Stealth Rock allows it to compress roles and be both a special attacker and entry hazard setter. Nidoking does have a few drawbacks, the first being that it has average defenses and as a result cannot take many hits; also, with the coverage it offers a team, it must be played carefully to preserve it. Nidoking's lackluster 85 base Speed makes it very susceptible to faster threats and therefore easily revenge killed.

Moves
========

Stealth Rock allows Nidoking to support the rest of its team with entry hazard damage when it is in a matchup where it cannot deal much immediate damage but is also not threatened in return. Earth Power provides a Ground-type STAB move to the team, which is invaluable in Poison's Electric and Steel matchups and pairs well with Ice Beam and Flamethrower against those two types. Ice Beam is the strongest Ice-type coverage move that Poison has access to, as the only other option for coverage on other Pokemon is Hidden Power Ice. This is a vital move because it offers Poison a strong option for hitting Flying- and Dragon-types like Dragonite, for which the type has few solid answers. Flamethrower rounds out the set to OHKO threats like Scizor and walls such as Ferrothorn and Forretress if hazards have broken Sturdy. The combination of Flamethrower and Earth Power allows Nidoking to dominate Steel-type teams. Thunderbolt is an option to break Flying-types, particularly Mantine and Gyarados, if another Pokemon is using Stealth Rock.

Set Details
========

Sheer Force is an incredible ability that increases Nidoking's damage output and removes Life Orb's recoil on all of its common moves. Base 85 Speed is relatively low for the metagame, so a Timid nature and maximum Speed investment are preferred to make Nidoking as fast a Stealth Rock setter as possible and ensure that it outspeeds Heatran. Maximum Special Attack investment is to get as much damage output as possible, as Nidoking is frail regardless of defensive investment.

Usage Tips
========

As a lead, Nidoking should set up Stealth Rock against a slower, more passive lead like Shuckle or look to damage the other team's lead if Nidoking can take a hit; if it cannot, you should likely switch to a partner, as Nidoking is a vital wallbreaker that Poison needs to win. It needs to be healthy enough to take a hit from something in order to 2HKO back. Avoid switching in Nidoking when it is not safe, as it has rather average defenses and provides invaluable coverage that helps against Steel, Electric, Flying, and Bug. Nidoking's different combinations of coverage allow it to easily tear through defensive cores on different teams depending on what coverage you run. A prime example is how BoltBeam easily dismantles Flying. Stealth Rock should be used against a slower offensive foe that Nidoking easily threatens out or against a wall that poses no threat, such as Skarmory or Chansey. Whenever a Thunder Wave or Electric-type attack is obvious, for example from Klefki, switch in Nidoking to prevent anything on your team from losing Speed due to paralysis or from taking damage.

Team Options
========

Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can switch in on them and trap the foe with Pursuit or retaliate with Knock Off. One particular threat Alolan Muk can trap is Alolan Raichu, which threatens to OHKO Nidoking even without the Speed boost from Electric Terrain. Crobat has a Ground immunity and has the added benefit of being able to offensively pressure threats like Keldeo due to its high Speed and Flying-type STAB moves. It is also able to garner momentum for its team with U-turn, allowing you to either pivot to a wall on an anticipated super effective attack or bring in a threat on the switch. Gengar is another wallbreaker that beats bulkier Psychic-types like Mew with STAB Shadow Ball and is able to outspeed and KO faster Psychic-types that Nidoking cannot outspeed. Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Nidoking, as it has no problem handling Water-types like Azumarill and Keldeo that make quick work of Nidoking, can wear down bulkier walls on opposing teams with Leech Seed, and can handle Ground-types that threaten Nidoking with STAB Giga Drain. Nihilego's Rock-type STAB moves are able to decimate Ice- and Flying-types such as Kyurem-B and Mega Charizard Y that could revenge kill Nidoking. Nihilego can also take on Stealth Rock setting, which allows Nidoking to run a fourth coverage move. Scolipede is a sweeper capable of handling faster threats such as Mega Charizard Y that outspeed Nidoking. It is also great in the Psychic matchup due to its combination of STAB Megahorn and its ability Speed Boost, allowing it to outpace common Choice Scarf users after it gains a boost once. Toxapex switches into Water- and Ice-type attacks with ease and can set up Toxic Spikes to wear down some of Nidoking's checks such as Mew. Nidoking in turn brings an Electric immunity that Toxapex appreciates. Nidoqueen is run as a Stealth Rock setter on Poison teams and can be partnered with Nidoking to free up a moveslot.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options

Poison
--------

Choice Scarf turns Nidoking into a revenge killer, as with this set it loses the power to be a wallbreaker. Focus Blast allows Nidoking to hit Ice-, Rock-, and Normal-types for super effective damage and to do a great deal of damage to Heatran before its Air Balloon is popped. This is a poor choice, however, as it would replace Ice Beam to further improve performance against Steel at the expense of Nidoking's performance in the Flying and Dragon matchup.

Checks and Counters
===================

Poison
--------

**Chansey**: Chansey easily walls Nidoking's special attacks, has reliable recovery to restore its health, and can remove status that other teammates may have accrued during the battle with Aromatherapy. Since Nidoking is not a threat to it, Chansey can set up Stealth Rock for its team and wear down Nidoking with Seismic Toss.

**Special Walls**: Special walls have access to reliable recovery and are able to easily wall Nidoking's coverage. The aforementioned Chansey and Mantine are two prime examples.

**Ground-types**: Excadrill in sand, Landorus, and Garchomp are all threats that can OHKO Nidoking and need to be played around by utilizing a Ground immunity and a partner such as Choice Scarf Nihilego with Hidden Power Ice or other super effective coverage.

**Ice-types**: Strong Ice-types with even middling Speed, such as Kyurem-B, can OHKO Nidoking without even needing a Choice Scarf.

**Psychic-types**: Fast-hitting Psychic-types such as Victini force out Nidoking, as it is slower and will be OHKOed.

**Water-types**: Threats such as Sharpedo and Keldeo easily outspeed Nidoking and OHKO it with their Water-type attacks.

**Revenge Killers**: Teams with faster threats such as Keldeo or Mega Charizard Y will easily be able to force Nidoking out or OHKO it due to its frailty and low Speed.

Overview:
- Explain that the reason Nidoking is so strong is because of Sheer Force + Life Orb.
- Definitely talk about its Speed. It's pretty good for a wallbreaker but leaves it open to being revenge killed by faster teams. It's up to you whether you want to discuss this in one or two lines.

Consider calling the set Wallbreaker or something like that. Stealth Rock on other Pokemon would open up Nidoking for a fourth move.

Moves:
- Don't discuss the other team issues, that can be done in Team Options. Do talk more about being an offensive Stealth Rock user, though.
- Explain why Ice-type coverage is so needed for Poison teams.
- Talk about how Flamethrower breaks Steel teams with Earth Power.
- Mention Thunderbolt as an option if Stealth Rock is used by another Pokemon in order to break Flying.

Usage Tips:
- Talk about keeping Nidoking healthy. It can't OHKO many Pokemon, so it relies on being able to take a hit in order to 2HKO.
- Do mention using Nidoking's Electric immunity to bring it in on Thunder Wave and other Electric-type attacks.

Team Options:
- With Alolan Muk specifically mention Pursuit trapping Alolan Raichu, which threatens to OHKO Nidoking even outside of Electric Terrain.
- Mention that Nihilego can take on the Stealth Rock role.
- Toxapex as a pivot that switches into Water- and Ice-type attacks for Nidoking and can even set Toxic Spikes to wear down some of Nidoking's checks such as Mew. It also appreciates Nidoking's Electric immunity.
- Mention offensive partners like Gengar as another wallbreaker and Scolipede as a sweeper.

Other Options:
- Don't mention Sludge Wave.
- Thunderbolt is mentioned in Moves now.
- +Choice Scarf
- +Focus Blast

Checks and Counters:

* Sheer Force is an incredible ability that increases Nidoking's damage output; Poison Point relies on RNG and Rivalry is less of a damage increase while also relying on your opponent identifying all the members of their team as male when people typically leave gender random. I would remove poison point asnd rivalry since it's obvious why they're bad and you could combine this line and next line if you remove that
* Life Orb boosts Nidoking's attack damage and has the recoil removed thanks to Sheer Force.
* 85 Speed is relatively low for the metagame, so a Timid nature is preferrred to make Nidoking as fast as possible. maybe provide an example of something a timid nature outspeeds and put max speed with Timid Nature instead of with Special attack

**Mantine**: The most common Nidoking moveset lacks Thunderbolt, and Mantine can also use Defog to remove Stealth Rock from its side of the field and Roost to restore any damage dealt. Here you could probably get away with putting this in special walls

**Special walls**: Special walls will have access to reliable recovery and be able to easily wall Nidoking's coverage. maybe provide 2 examples to make this seem a bit more detailed

**Revenge killers**: Teams with faster threats such as Keldeo or Mega Charizard Y will easily be able to force Nidoking out or OHKO it due to its frailty and low Speed. Put revenge killers at bottom since above are revenge killers, but there are more of them

(period) as Nidoking is frail regardless of investment, so EVs in its defenses are not as useful. (I feel like the section isn't complete by just saying it's frail without adding how that affects the Pokemon.)

Usage Tips

As a lead, Nidoking should set up Stealth Rock against a slower, more passive lead Pokemon like Shuckle or look to damage the other team's lead if it is something it Nidoking can take a hit from; if you it cannot, you should likely switch to a partner as Nidoking is a vital wallbreaker that Poison needs to win. Whenever a Thunder Wave or Electric-type attack is obvious, for example, from Klefki, switch in Nidoking to prevent anything on your team from having its Speed dropped speed loss due to paralysis or from taking damage.

Team Options

Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can switch in on them and retaliate with Knock Off or Pursuit if it has a good trapping opportunity. One particular threat it can trap is Alolan Raichu, which threatens to OHKO Nidoking even without the Speed boost from Electric Terrain (Nidoking is immune to Electric-type attacks so mentioning terrain without referencing Speed isn't really helpful here). Crobat has provides a Ground immunity and has the added benefit of being able to offensively pressure threats like Keldeo due to its high Speed and Flying STAB. It is also able to garner momentum for its team with U-Turn U-turn, allowing it to either pivot to a wall on an anticipated super effective attack or allowing you to bring in a threat on your opponent's switchout. Gengar is another wallbreaker that kills KOes bulky bulkier Psychic-types like Mew with STAB Shadow Ball and is able to also outspeeds and KOes faster Psychic-types that Nidoking cannot outspeed (this implies they are faster). Mega Venusaur is a great partner as it has no problem handling Water-types like Azumarill and Keldeo that make quick work of Nidoking, can wear down bulkier walls on opposing teams with Leech Seed, (AC) and can use STAB Giga Drain to handle Ground-types that threaten Nidoking with STAB Giga Drain. (The way it is written implies the Ground-types threaten Nidoking with a Grass-type move, which is not the case) Nihilego's Rock-type STAB is able to decimate Ice- and Flying-types such as Kyurem-Black or Mega Charizard Y that could revenge kill Nidoking. It can also take on the Stealth Rock setter role which allows Nidoking to run a fourth coverage move. Scolipede is a sweeper capable of handling faster threats such as Mega Charizard Y that outspeed Nidoking. It is also great in the Psychic matchup due to its combination of STAB Megahorn and its ability Speed Boost, allowing it to outpace common Choice Scarf users after it Speed Boosts its Speed stat is boosted once. Toxapex switches in to Water- and Ice-type attacks with ease and can set up Toxic Spikes to wear down some of Nidoking's checks such as Mew. Nidoking in turn brings an Electric immunity that Toxapex appreciates. Nidoqueen is run as a Stealth Rock setter on Poison teams and can be partnered with Nidoking to free up a moveslot.

Choice Scarf turns Nidoking into a revenge killer itself, as it loses the power with this set to be a wallbreaker. Focus Blast allows Nidoking the ability to hit Ice-, Rock- and Normal-(AH)types for super effective damage and to do a great deal of damage to Heatran before its Air Balloon is popped. This is a poor choice, however, as it would replace Ice Beam to improve performance against Steel at the expense of Nidoking's performance in the Flying and Dragon matchup.

**Chansey**: Chansey easily walls special attacks, (AC) and has reliable recovery to restore its health, (AC) and can remove status from its team with Aromatherapy. Since Nidoking is not a threat to it, Chansey can set up Stealth Rock for its team as well and can wear down Nidoking with Seismic Toss.

**Ground-types**: Excadrill in Sand, Landorus, and Garchomp are all threats that OHKO Nidoking and need to be played around by utilizing a Ground immunity and a partner such as Scarf Nihilego with Hidden Power Ice or other super effective coverage.

**Ice-types**: Strong Ice-types with even middling Speed, such as Kyurem-Black, can OHKO Nidoking without even needing a Choice Scarf.

**Psychic-types**: Fast, (AC) hard-hitting Psychic-types such as Victini force out Nidoking as it is slower and will be OHKOed.

**Water-types**: Threats such as Sharpedo and Keldeo easily outspeed and OHKO Nidoking with their Water-type attacks.

**Revenge killers**: Teams with faster threats such as Keldeo or Mega Charizard Y will easily be able to force Nidoking out or OHKO it due to its frailty and low Speed.

Stealth Rock allows Nidoking to support the rest of the its team with entry hazard damage when it is not in a matchup where it cannot (to prevent a double negative in the next section that could obscure your meaning) deal much immediate damage but is also not threatened in return. Earth Power provides a Ground-type STAB move to the team, (comma) which is invaluable in Poison's Electric and Steel matchups and pairs well with Ice Beam and Flamethrower against those two types respectively. (since they are not slashed with each other, this is not as vital for clarity) Ice Beam is the strongest Ice-type coverage move that Poison has access to, as the only other option for coverage elsewhere on other Pokemon (optional, for clarity) is Hidden Power Ice. This is a vital move as because it offers Poison a strong option for hitting Flying- and Dragon-types like Dragonite, for which the type has few solid answers.

Set Details

Sheer Force is an incredible ability that increases Nidoking's damage output and removes Life Orb's recoil on all of its common moves. (optional) Base 85 Speed is relatively low for the metagame, so a Timid nature is and maximum Speed investment are preferred to make Nidoking as fast a Stealth Rock setter as possible and ensure that it outspeeds Heatran. Max Speed is run to make Nidoking as fast a Stealth Rock setter as it can be; Max Special Attack investment is to get as much damage output as possible, (comma) as Nidoking is frail regardless of defensive investment.

Usage Tips

As a lead, Nidoking should set up Stealth Rock against a slower, more passive lead like Shuckle or look to damage the other team's lead if it is something it Nidoking can take a hit from; (for later clarity around the word "it") if you it cannot, you should likely switch to a partner, (comma) as Nidoking is a vital wallbreaker that Poison needs to win. It needs to be healthy enough to take a hit from something in order to 2KHO 2HKO back. Avoid switching in Nidoking when it is not safe, as it has rather average defenses and provides invaluable coverage that helps against Steel, Electric, Flying, (serial comma) and Bug. Nidoking's different combinations of coverage allow it to easily tear through defensive cores on different teams depending on what coverage you run. A prime example is how BoltBeam easily dismantles flying. Flying. Stealth Rock should be used on against a slower offensive opponent foe (only use opponent for the human player) that Nidoking easily threatens out or against a wall that poses no threat, such as Skarmory or Chansey. Whenever a Thunder Wave or Electric-type attack is obvious, for example, (remove comma) from Klefki, switch in Nidoking to prevent anything on your team from losing Speed having speed loss due to paralysis or from taking damage.

Team Options

Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can switch in on them and retaliate with Knock Off or Pursuit if it has a good trapping opportunity. (change to "Pursuit if it has a good trapping opportunity or Knock Off" if that is correct) One particular threat it Alolan Muk can trap is Alolan Raichu, which threatens to OHKO Nidoking even without the Speed boost from Electric Terrain. Crobat has a Ground immunity and has the added benefit of being able to offensively pressure (Fighting-type? Water-type?) threats like Keldeo due to its high Speed and Flying-type STAB moves. It is also able to garner momentum for its team with U-Turn, U-turn, allowing it you to either pivot to a wall on an anticipated super effective attack or allowing you to bring in a threat on the switch. your opponent's switchout. Gengar is another wallbreaker that kills beats bulkier Psychic-types like Mew with STAB Shadow Ball and is able to outspeed and KO faster Psychic-types that Nidoking cannot outspeed. Mega Venusaur is a great partner for Nidoking, (comma) as it has no problem handling Water-types like Azumarill and Keldeo that make quick work of Nidoking, can wear down bulkier walls on opposing teams with Leech Seed, (comma) and can handle threatening Ground-types that threaten to Nidoking with STAB Giga Drain. (to clarify that it isn't the Ground-types that are using Giga Drain) Nihilego's Rock-type STAB moves are is able to decimate Ice- and Flying-types such as Kyurem-Black or Kyurem-B and Mega Charizard Y (for "such as A and/or B", use "and" if what "such as" is referring to is plural ("Ice- and Flying-types such as Kyurem-B and..."). use "or" if it is singular ("an Ice- or Flying-type such as Kyurem-B or...")) that could revenge kill Nidoking. It Nihilego can also take on the Stealth Rock setting, which allows Nidoking to run a fourth coverage move. Scolipede is a sweeper capable of handling faster threats such as Mega Charizard Y that outspeed Nidoking. It is also great in the Psychic matchup due to its combination of STAB Megahorn and its ability Speed Boost, allowing it to outpace common Choice Scarf users after it gains a boost Speed Boosts once. Toxapex switches in to into Water- and Ice-type attacks with ease and can set up Toxic Spikes to wear down some of Nidoking's checks such as Mew. (how is this last one relevant to checking Nidoking, which doesn't have any status moves?) Since Nidoking is not a threat to it, Chansey can set up Stealth Rock for its team as well and can wear down Nidoking with Seismic Toss.

**Special Walls**: Special walls will have access to reliable recovery and be are able to easily wall Nidoking's coverage. The aforementioned Chansey and Mantine are two prime examples.

**Ground-types**: Excadrill in Sand, sand, Landorus, and Garchomp are all threats that can OHKO Nidoking and need to be played around by utilizing a Ground immunity and a partner such as Choice Scarf Nihilego with Hidden Power Ice or other super effective coverage.

**Ice-types**: Strong Ice-types with even middling Speed, such as Kyurem-Black, Kyurem-B, can OHKO Nidoking without even needing a Choice Scarf.

[OVERVIEW]

Nidoking is one of Poison's premier attacking options, sporting ridiculous amounts of coverage and power due to the combination of Sheer Force and Life Orb. It acts as a wallbreaker, especially in the Steel matchup. Once Heatran's Air Balloon is gone, the combination of Earth Power and Flamethrower decimates Steel teams. Its access to BeamBolt BoltBeam coverage allows it to beat Flying on its own, although it usually forgoes Thunderbolt coverage. Stealth Rock allows it to compress roles and be both a special attacker and hazard setter. Nidoking does have a few drawbacks, the first being that it has average defenses and as a result cannot take many hits; with the coverage it offers a team it must be played carefully to preserve it. Its lackluster 85 base Speed makes it very susceptible to faster threats and therefore easily revenge killed. good work here, although note how often "it" is used to refer to Nidoking, even when there are intervening mentions to possible other antecedents; to make the paragraph slightly more clear, then, you could change an "it" or two to "Nidoking"

Moves

Stealth Rock allows Nidoking to support the rest of the team with hazard damage when it is not in a matchup where it can deal much immediate damage, (AC) but when it is also not threatened in return. the comma here is actually incorrect: "it is not in a matchup where A but when B" because "when ... return" is not an independent clause. also, I felt the "not in a matchup" bit could be confusing and corrected that Earth Power provides a Ground STAB move to the team which is invaluable in Poison's Electric and Steel matchups and pairs well with Ice Beam and Flamethrower against those two types respectively. Ice Beam is the strongest Ice-type coverage that Poison has access to, as the only other option for coverage elsewhere is Hidden Power Ice. This is a vital move as it offers Poison a strong option for hitting Flying- and Dragon-types like Dragonite, for which the type has few solid answers to. this "to" is not necessary because of the "for which": "the type has few solid answers for Flying- and Dragon-types", not "answers to for Flying- and Dragon-types." to make this "to" correct, you'd also delete the "for", but this change then becomes a matter of removing the writer's voice, which you should aim to preserve Flamethrower rounds out the set to OHKO threats like Scizor and walls such as Ferrothorn and Forretress if hazards have broken Sturdy. The combination of Flamethrower and Earth Power allows Nidoking to dominate Steel-type teams. Thunderbolt is an option to break Flying-types, particularly Mantine and Gyarados, if another Pokemon is using Stealth Rock.

Set Details
========

Sheer Force is an incredible ability that increases Nidoking's damage output and removes Life Orb's recoil. 85 base Speed base 85, I think is relatively low for the metagame, so a Timid nature is preferred to make Nidoking as fast as possible and ensure that it outspeeds Heatran. Maximum Speed investment is run to make Nidoking as fast a Stealth Rock setter as it can be; its Speed investment is already mentioned, so while none of these changes are wrong, I think it's better to combine this part of the sentence with the previous sentence to eliminate needless repetition maximum special attack Special Attack investment is to get as much increase the "get as much" isn't really wrong here; again, writer voice damage output as much as possible. (period) as Nidoking is frail regardless of investment, so EVs in its defenses are not as useful. (I feel like the section isn't complete by just saying it's frail without adding how that affects the Pokemon.) good call! "so EVs in its defenses are not as useful" is a little repetitive with "frail regardless of investment", though, so I feel it's not necessary.

Usage Tips
========

As a lead, Nidoking should set up Stealth Rock against a slower, more passive lead Pokemon be careful: I think the meaning here is that specifically in lead situations Nidoking should set up Stealth Rock against this type of other lead; it's mentioned that Stealth Rock should be used against slower Pokemon or walls later in the paragraph, so the generalization to "Pokemon" makes this repetitive and, albeit slightly, does change the meaning of the sentence. like Shuckle or look to damage the other team's lead if it is something it Nidoking can take a hit from; if you it cannot, you should likely again, I've chosen to preserve this in case removal might change the meaning switch to a partner as Nidoking is a vital wallbreaker that Poison needs to win. It needs to be healthy enough to take a hit from something in order to 2KHO 2HKO back. Avoid switching in Nidoking when it is not safe, as it has rather average defenses and provides invaluable coverage that helps against Steel, Electric, Flying and Bug. there should be a comma before and, because Smogon uses the serial comma (comma before the last item in a list of 3 or more). you miss another instance of lack of serial comma below, so take note of this Nidoking's different combinations of coverage allow it to easily tear through defensive cores depending on what coverage options you run. A prime example is how BoltBeam easily dismantles flying Flying. Stealth Rock should be used on a slower offensive opponent that Nidoking easily threatens out or against a wall that poses no threat, such as Skarmory or Chansey. Whenever a Thunder Wave or Electric-type attack is obvious, for example, from Klefki, switch in Nidoking to prevent anything on your team from having its Speed dropped speed loss due to paralysis or from taking damage. fine changes in the rest of the paragraph here.

Poison
========

[OVERVIEW]

Nidoking is one of Poison's premier attacking options, sporting ridiculous amounts of coverage and power due to the combination of Sheer Force and Life Orb.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Alolan Muk is immune to Psychic-type attacks and can switch in on them and retaliate trap the foe with Pursuit if it has a good trapping opportunity or retaliate with Knock Off.

Other Options
=============

Poison
--------

Choice Scarf turns Nidoking into a revenge killer, (AC) as with this set it loses the power to be a wallbreaker.

===================

Poison

**Special Walls**: (remove underline) Special walls have access to reliable recovery and are able to easily wall Nidoking's coverage.

**Water-types**: Threats such as Sharpedo and Keldeo easily outspeed Nidoking and OHKO Nidoking it with their Water-type attacks.

**Revenge Killers**: Teams with faster threats such as Keldeo or Mega Charizard Y will easily be able to force Nidoking out or OHKO it due to its frailty and low Speed.
