[OVERVIEW]

With it's base base 100 stats across the board and huge movepool, Mew is a supporter that can be tailored specifically to your team's needs. In particular, Mew is able to use Transform to either apply huge pressure by turning into a partnering set-up sweeper such as Mega Salamence or Porygon-Z, or can provide a wider range of options to its partner by Transforming into opposing support Pokemon like Amoonguss. However, Mew is not just a one-trick pony, as Fake Out and Tailwind allow it to provide support to your team without the need to Transform. With Mew's good Speed and Defenses, it can also check a lot of top threats in the metagame with its coverage moves, such as Ice Beam for Mega Salamence and Landorus-T. Mew does have its flaws though, and could be described as a jack of all trades, master of none. If you do not require Mew for it's ability to Transform, there are generally better choices to support your team that do a specific job better. For example, Zapdos is a far superior Tailwind setter. Mew also doesn't provide much offensive pressure, and can often find itself draining momentum once it has used it's particular Speed control move.

Moves
========

Transform is the main move on the set, being able to turn into a partner that has acquired stat boosts or an opposing support Pokemon in order to aid it's partner further. Fake out allows Mew to potentially provide a free turn to it's partner, allowing it to set up for Mew to Transform into on a later turn. Tailwind provides Speed control in the event you cannot Transform, while also aiding the members of your team that do not set up in gaining the Speed advantage. Ice Beam allows Mew to hit common Pokemon such as Mega Salamence and Landorus-T for super effective damage, and also stops Mew from being Taunt bait. Trick Room can be used instead of Tailwind if your team is generally slower and would appreciate it more. However, make sure to run 0 Speed IVs and and a Speed lowering nature, since Mew has a high base Speed.

Set Details
========

The EV spread allows Mew to outspeed max Speed base 95 Pokemon with a Speed boosting nature, while also guaranteeing an OHKO on 0/4 Landorus-T with Ice Beam. Maximum HP investment is used since the HP stat is the only one carried over from the base Pokemon after Transforming, and so it allows Mew to make the most out of it's Transform. Aguav Berry gives Mew instant recovery once it's HP gets low, and also doesn't confuse Mew when it's Transformed, since very few Pokemon worth Transforming into use a Special Defense lowering nature. Sitrus Berry is another option if you do not want to risk Mew dropping to 25% HP before recovering. If you are using Trick Room, then using 0 speed IVs and a Relaxed nature with an EV spread of 252 HP / 96 Def / 28 SpA / 132 SpD is recommended, as this allows Mew to survive a Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike after an Intimidate or a Life Orb-boosted Spectral Thief as well as a Shadow Sneak from Marshadow, which often proves to be a big issue for Trick Room teams.

Usage Tips
========

Mew can be used in the early game to apply pressure with Fake Out and setting up your Speed control of choice, which should be used when your team has the Speed disadvantage. Transform is best used when you have a partner who has already acquired boosts, such as Porygon-Z, since you then have the opportunity to apply a lot of pressure with two boosted Pokemon. It is also worth noting that Transform works even if the target uses Protect, so Mew can safely use Transform while not losing it's partner. Mew can also Transform into opposing Pokemon like Amoonguss to gain the potential to redirect dangerous attacks and also make use of Regenerator, or Landorus-T to Intimidate the opposing Pokemon and check the Landorus-T you just Transformed into. If the opponent is weak to your set-up sweeper of choice, make sure to conserve Mew's health as it can give you a second shot at sweeping should the original Pokemon faint.

Team Options
========
  • pokemon like DD mmence or porygon Z who can set up and let mew take full advantage of transform.
    • mmence can also ko ammonguss, who can redirect the transform
  • that take out dark/ghost types like marshadow, tyranitar, tapus are good partners, since they can heavily damage mew before transform.
    • marshadow notably beats both ghost and dark types with its STAB coverage
    • ttar can also set up a DD to give mew a transform target.
  • steel types like aegislash/gene wall mew and force it to transform/switch or risk taking a big hit, so heatran and volcanion make good partners
    • volcanion also deals with opposing tran very well
    • fire types also appreciate mews ice beam taking out lando/mence
  • mews best offensive option is ice beam, so mons who appreciate intimidate users like mence and lando gone.
    • your own lando t can provide intim to give mew and easier time supporting vs physical threats
  • other support mons of your own like scrafty/amoong can be nice to support mew itself once transformed and your partner taken out.
    • scrafty gives more fake out support as well as intim and ability to deal with dark/ghost
    • amoong gives redirection and lets mew transform into it to gain regen on switch out
  • Tapu fini is a good partner for mew since it can heal pulse an already transformed mew to give it a better chance of sweeping, can also be a transform target for mew with the cm set

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Normalium z with transform lets you heal up to full before transforming
  • flamethrower lets mew surprise genesect and ferrothorn with heavy hits before transforming. overheat is a stronger hit on these mons
  • ally switch is cool to take the hit for your partner and give it another set up turn.
  • super fang gives more consistent damage on more mons, but sniping landot and mence is nice
  • knock off to remove opposing berries etc, serves as a good way to neutralise snorlax
  • aurora veil is a cool option with hail support to give a more consistent setter than ninetales
  • helping hand gives mew the option of not transforming, gives partner boosted hit
  • SR can be nice to hit flying threats like zard y and zapdos for big damage on switch in
  • taunt stops opposing setup/ speed control options
  • u turn lets mew pivot out of bad matchups once it has set up its speed control or used its fake out

Checks and Counters
===================
**Ghost-types**: aegislash, marsh, m gengar immune to fake out and can hit mew with super effective attacks, mega gengar also stops mew from switching out of this bad matchup. marsh and mgar outspeed and hit mew hard before it can transform

**Dark-types**: hoopa, tyranitar can also hit mew with strong SE hits. scrafty can also knock berry off mew.

**Steel-types**: dont take much from ice beam and threaten heavy damage in return. genesect can outspeed and U-turn, aegislash threatens z shadow ball after transform. gene has to be careful of a surprise fire move

**Faster Pokemon**: mons like marsh, koko, skymin can all threaten big hits on mew before it transforms. marsh can even steal mews boosts once its transformed. skymin and mence have to be careful of ice beam though

**Redirection**: mons like amoong can redirect mews transform, stopping it from becoming the set up partner next to mew.

**Taunt**: common taunt mons like lele, koko and mgar take little from ice beam and can stop mew from transforming while hitting it hard with their STABs.

normalium z seems like a good mention in OO, (it puts your health back to 100% with transform, and protects your transform from being taunted) it depends on team and playstyle and the like, buts its a p good option.

also where you mentioned flamethrower, you could also do this, i guess:
196 SpA Mew Overheat vs. 252 HP / 148 SpD Ferrothorn: 352-416 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
i mean, i probably wouldnt, but you could. idk if this is worth mentioning tbh, its probably not worth the investment

yeah added normalium z thanks.

about overheat, i dont think the investment is worth the huge loss in speed and besides, i feel like mons such as mew with a fire move are just there to get a big hit on ferro so its pressured more by your actual ferro killer. like mew should not be your only ferro check and so doesnt need to ohko it/potentially miss.

I basically don't use Mew so I'm leaving this for the QC members that do, but I think the main item should be Aguav Berry - some Pokemon, most prominently AoA Mega Salamence, use -Def natures, so that provides the lowest chance to get confused if Mew eats its Berry while transformed.

I've used Mew a couple times since posting the above, so here's your check!
  • [Set] The Tectonic Rage Lando-T benchmark is nice for Trick Room, but for faster spreads there's no need to hit it because Mew can just outspeed and OHKO with Ice Beam (thanks to Memoric for pointing this out). Long story short, your spread is good as-is
  • [Set] Transform is the most important move on the set, so switch it with Fake Out and edit Moves to account for the changed order
  • [Set Details] Don't forget to adjust the berry to Aguav here as well
  • [Set Details] marilli gave me this TR spread: 252 HP / 96 Def / 28 SpA / 132 SpD; Relaxed, which allows Mew to take -1 Marshadow Z-Move or neutral Life Orb Marshadow Spectral Thief + Shadow Sneak, guaranteeing that the berry will proc after Spec Thief. Same SpA benchmark, dump in SpD. Go ahead and adjust the recommended TR spread to this one, since Marsh is super prominent rn and an issue for most TR builds
  • [Usage Tips] Something about not playing recklessly with Mew if the opponent's team is weak to whichever setup sweeper Mew is paired with, as it's helpful to have access to another chance to sweep from higher HP
  • [Team Options] Tapu Fini's great for Heal Pulse support
  • [Other Options] Overheat, U-turn, and AVeil are all great additions, thanks Frania + miltankmilk
  • [Other Options] Take out Magic Coat, Roost, and Recycle - Mew's movepool is huge, but its moveset is pretty pressed for slots as is and I can't see a scenario where one of those would be in the top 4 moves to have
  • [Checks and Counters] Add a **Taunt** tag, most Taunt users take little from Ice Beam and keep Mew from being useful (Mega Gengar, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele)
Do the above for QC 1/2
