[GP Checks: The Dutch Plumberjack / A Cake Wearing a Hat]

[OVERVIEW]

Masquerain sports unique access to both Sticky Web and Quiver Dance, which gives it much better offensive presence than other Sticky Web leads such as Smeargle. Masquerain's solid coverage also allows it to threaten Pokemon such as Hitmonchan which give other Sticky Web leads a hard time. However, Masquerain still faces a lot of competition from other Sticky Web setters such as Leavanny and Smeargle due to Leavanny's better Speed and access to valuable support options in Knock Off, Magic Coat, and Electroweb and Smeargle's access to more support options such as Spikes, Spore, and Stealth Rock. As a result of Masquerain's only decent Speed and offensive presence, it is very susceptible to Taunt from Pokemon such as Skuntank, which isn't a problem for the faster Leavanny because it outspeeds Skuntank. Masquerain also has a difficult time against common Defoggers like Silvally-Water that can get rid of Sticky Web with little to no issue. Masquerain's poor bulk and defensive typing don't grant it many opportunities to switch in, meaning that it can only work efficiently as a lead.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Sticky Web, the main reason to use Masquerain, decreases the Speed of all opposing Pokemon upon entry, which is good for supporting Masquerain's teammates. Bug Buzz is Masquerain's main and most powerful STAB move, and it hits Dark-, Grass-, and Psychic-types like Absol, Lilligant, Mesprit, and Musharna for super effective damage. Hydro Pump gives Masquerain the ability to threaten not only common users of Stealth Rock such as Palossand and Regirock but also Pokemon like Magmortar, while Air Slash, gives it a secondary STAB option for hitting Fighting-types harder than any of its other moves. Finally, Quiver Dance increases Masquerain's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one stage, slightly increasing its offensive presence and making it less susceptible to Taunt.

Set Details
========

Maximum investment in both Speed and Special Attack serves to maximize Masquerain's offensive presence. A Timid nature allows it to outspeed Pokemon such as neutral-natured Magmortar, Shiftry, and Skuntank and gives it an easier time attempting to set up Sticky Web. Focus Sash always allows Masquerain to take one attack from full, which means that Masquerain will almost always successfully set Sticky Web at least once. Intimidate is Masquerain’s only viable ability. It decreases the Attack of the opposing Pokemon by one, which can help it set up Sticky Web later on should it need to switch out.

Usage Tips
========

Leading with Masquerain is almost always ideal due to this giving it the best possible chance it can get to set Sticky Web up as soon as possible. Using Quiver Dance afterwards is smart, as this gives it a slightly better matchup against Defoggers, prevents it from becoming setup fodder, and makes it more likely that Sticky Web will remain up. If Masquerain cannot beat a certain Defogger like Swanna, preserving it until the Defogger is removed is ideal, as Masquerain's main priority is setting up Sticky Web and they will render its attempts pointless. This can be difficult, however, due to its poor bulk and 4x weakness to Stealth Rock. Masquerain has to play carefully around Taunt users such as Sableye, as they can prevent it from doing much of anything outside of firing off weak attacks.

Team Options
========

Masquerain only fits on dedicated Sticky Web teams, so slower setup sweepers and wallbreakers that can take advantage of their grounded checks being slowed down such as Carracosta, Turtonator, and Zangoose make for good partners. Spinblockers such as Golurk and Oricorio-G prevent the removal of Sticky Web via Rapid Spin. They both also have the advantage of pressuring Defoggers with their strong STAB attacks, and Golurk can even provide Stealth Rock support to weaken the Flying-types that aren't affected by Sticky Web. Haunter can be considered too, as it can prevent Defog with Taunt and possibly take out annoyances with Destiny Bond if need be; however, it is more frail than the two previously mentioned Ghost-types and has a harder time against Skuntank. Pawniard and Primeape make for great teammates due to them both being able to deter and punish the use of Defog because of their shared ability in Defiant. They both also check Skuntank, a major annoyance for Masquerain. Checks to Flying-types like Swanna are important, as they are immune to Sticky Web and can usually remove Sticky Web with ease. Alolan Raichu fits this role perfectly, and it appreciates Sticky Web giving it an easier time cleaning up opposing teams.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A more offensive set centered around Quiver Dance making use of Life Orb, Buginium Z, or Flyinium Z may sound appealing, but such a set has very little reason to be used over Lilligant, which is faster, stronger, and slightly bulkier. Furthermore, this set forgoes Masquerain's main niche in Sticky Web. Roost seems appealing, but Masquerain has trouble finding room for it on either set and much prefers the coverage, and it has trouble recovering lost HP on strong attackers such as Kangaskhan and Stoutland. Haze can remove stat boosts from Pokemon like Carracosta, but again, it has problems fitting it on its set over anything else. Ice Beam can be used to hit Pokemon such as Drampa and Oricorio-G harder, though it has limited use outside of this.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt and Encore**: Masquerain is incapable of doing much of anything should it be Taunted by Sableye or Skuntank, and none of its moves are particularly desirable to be locked into by Encore from Pokemon like Audino.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Common Defoggers such as Swanna and Silvally-Water are annoying for Masquerain to deal with, as Masquerain cannot OHKO them depending on its coverage, and they don't have issues either KOing it or stalling it out with Toxic and then Defogging. Although the matchup is tougher for them, spinners such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Kabutops can be annoying for Masquerain to deal with as well. Kabutops also has the ability to threaten Masquerain with Rock-type attacks.

**Rock-types**: Rock-types such as Archeops, Aurorus, Regirock, and Lycanroc can all KO Masquerain with their respective STAB attacks, even with an Attack drop from Intimidate. Lycanroc can even revenge kill Masquerain after a Quiver Dance with Accelerock, while Aurorus can OHKO Masquerain through its Focus Sash due to Snow Warning. It's worth noting that none of them appreciate taking a +1 Hydro Pump. Archeops can also potentially Defog on Masquerain.

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Combusken, Magmortar, and Pyroar have no issues KOing Masquerain with Fire Blast, even if it has +1 Special Defense. Similarly to Rock-types, however, none of them want to take a +1 Hydro Pump.

  • An average 100 Special Attack prevents it from breaking through specially defensive Pokemon such as Audino, Lanturn and Type: Null.
  • Even Intimidate can't save it from its poor bulk, and strong physical attackers like Kangaskhan and Stoutland still possess the power to KO it at -1 attack.
  • Its typing leaves it 4x weak to Stealth Rock, and because of the fact that it needs its Focus Sash to reliably get up Sticky Web, this hinders it severely.
  • say something about how it has many common weaknesses

  • The final option for this slot, Air Slash, gives it a secondary STAB option for hitting Grass- and Fighting-types harder than any of its other moves.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Stealth Rock**: Masquerain loses 50% of its health when it comes in if Stealth Rock is up, which breaks its Focus Sash and makes it less capable of supporting its team or setting up as well.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon like Audino, Clefairy, Lanturn and Type: Null are really hard for Masquerain to break through because of their special bulk. Audino, Clefairy and Lanturn threaten it with status while Type: Null can set up on it and KO it with Return. Additionally, Audino and Clefairy boast reliable recovery, meaning that they can potentially stall Masquerain out as it gets weakened by Toxic.

**Revenge Killers**: Due to its average Speed, it can be outsped and revenge killed by Choice Scarf users such as Oricorio-G, Jynx, Primeape and Pyroar even after a Quiver Dance. It's also pretty susceptible to priority users like Abomasnow, Absol, Kangaskhan and Lycanroc due to its poor bulk and defensive typing.

u gotta add rock types, removal, other scary types
taunt seems p important too

this whole overview needs to explain better that its primary function is a sticky web lead, and only that. it doesn't want to be used mid-game or late-game. mention that leavanny is able to outspeed qwilfish, which is super notable as it can taunt masq turn one. it's mainly using quiver dance or attacking after it has set webs, so you also need to talk about that. the last point isn't super relevant because you're almost always going to lead with it or use it extremely easily. I don't think this was edited properly after you removed the second set, so i'd definitely look into this.

(wouldn't mention togedemaru or silvally-steel, or any of these really. you're using it mainly to hit stealth rock setters actually, such as regirock, golurk, etc. i'd probably put hydro pump first under further inspection actually)
  • The final option for this slot, Air Slash, gives it a secondary STAB option for hitting Grass- and Fighting-types harder than any of its other moves.
  • Finally, Quiver Dance increases Masquerain's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one, slightly increasing its offensive presence. (this will never be masq's primary concern however, as its main function is not to sweep)
Set Details
========
  • Focus Sash always allows Masquerain to live one attack from full, which means that its almost always getting up Sticky Web.
  • Intimidate is Masquerain’s only viable ability. It decreases the Attack of the opposing Pokemon by one, and is useful for allowing Masquerain to tank hits easier, and giving it an easier time setting up. (eh, I wouldn't really say it does. you already said it has bad defences in the overview so this seems like it's contradictory to that?) (it also has sash, which gives it almost guaranteed setup)
  • Maximum investment in both Speed and Special Attack allows it to hit as hard and be as fast as it can. (this should be first. mention it's using a timid nature so it can attempt to get sticky webs up easier)
Usage Tips
========
  • Leading with Masquerain is almost always ideal due to this giving it the best possible chance it can get to set webs up as soon as possible.
  • Using Quiver Dance afterwards is smart, as this will give it a slightly better match-up against Defoggers and make it more likely that Sticky Webs will remain up. (yup, kinda.)
  • If Masquerain cannot beat a certain Defogger like Silvally-Steel, preserving it until the Defogger is removed is ideal, as Masquerain's main priority is setting up the web and they will render its attempts pointless. (i'd mention that this can be quite hard to do due to how masq actually functions)
  • Masquerain should avoid setting up directly on Defoggers given how easily they can force it out and take advantage of the switch by Defogging, especially if its Focus Sash has been broken. (like? mention which defoggers)
  • mention how it should be carefully played against fast taunt pokemon like qwilfish, which shut it down turn one almost all of the time
Team Options
========
  • Spinblockers such as Golurk and Oricorio-G prevent the removal of Sticky Web via Rapid Spin. They both also have the advantage of pressuring Defoggers with their strong STABs, and Golurk can even provide Stealth Rock to weaken the Flying-types that aren't affected by Sticky Web. • Pawniard and Primeape deter the use of Defog due to their shared ability in Defiant, so they make for great teammates. They in tandem with the spinblockers make sure that the web is on the field for as long as possible. (well, they don't really make sure they stay on the field but instead punish the removal) (primeape and pawn also punish qwilfish, which is often a good stop to masq setting up webs)
  • Wallbreakers and set-up sweepers that are either slow or barely slower than their checks like Carracosta, Mesprit, Turtonator and Zangoose appreciate their grounded, faster checks being slowed down and have a much easier time breaking the opposing team as a result of it. (I'd remove mesprit, never really liked it on webs teams as it doesn't really function as well as more immediate threats)
  • Checks to Flying-types like Swanna are important, as they are immune to Sticky Web and can usually remove Sticky Web with ease. Pokemon like Raichu-Alola and Zebstrika fit this role perfectly, and they both appreciate Sticky Web giving them an easier time cleaning up opposing teams. (i'd never use zebstrika on a sticky webs team, as it's too weak to support it)

  • A more offensive set centered around Quiver Dance making use of either Life Orb or one of Buginium or Flyinium Z may sound appealing, but such a set has very little reason to be used over Lilligant, who is faster, stronger and slightly bulkier. (and webs is its niche)
  • A more defensive set with Defog is possible, making better use of Intimidate, but the major weakness to Stealth Rock slightly takes away from its defensive value. It also has a hard time fitting Defog over any of its other slots, and faces competition from Altaria as a defensive Defogger. (i'd just remove this lol, defog is sooo bad and literally goes against what it usually does)
  • Roost seems appealing, but it has trouble finding room for it on either set and much prefers the coverage, and it has trouble recovering its health on strong attackers.
  • Haze can remove stat boosts from Pokemon like Carracosta, but again, it has problems fitting it on its set over anything else.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Stealth Rock**: Masquerain loses 50% of its health when it comes in if Stealth Rock is up, which breaks its Focus Sash and makes it less capable of supporting its team or setting up as well. (i'd move this down actually, because you're mainly using masq as a suicide lead, so stealth rocks aren't actually too troublesome)

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Pokemon like Audino, Clefairy, Lanturn, and Type: Null are really hard for Masquerain to break through because of their special bulk. Audino, Clefairy and Lanturn threaten it with status while Type: Null can set up on it and KO it with Return. Lycanroc can even revenge kill Masquerain after a Quiver Dance with Accelerock. None of them want to come in on a plus one Hydro Pump, however.

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Combusken, Magmortar and Pyroar have no issues KOing Masquerain with Fire Blast, even with plus one Special Defense. Similarly to Rock-types, however, none of them appreciate taking a plus one Hydro Pump.

**Taunt and Encore**: Masquerain is incapable of doing much of anything should it be Taunted, and none of its moves are particularly desirable to be locked into by Encore. (move this to the top and mention qwilfish and sableye)

**Defog**: Common Defoggers such as Swanna and Silvally-Steel are annoying for Masquerain to deal with, as Masquerain cannot OHKO either of them, and they don't have issue KOing it and then Defogging. (move this to second as removal of sticky web sucks extremely hard. i'd also nod to rapid spinners too, although they have a slightly harder match up overall compared to defog users)

**Revenge Killers**: Due to its average Speed, it can be outsped and revenge killed by Choice Scarf users such as Oricorio-G, Jynx, Primeape and Pyroar even after a Quiver Dance. It's also pretty susceptible to priority users like Abomasnow, Absol, Kangaskhan and Lycanroc due to its poor bulk and defensive typing (this isn't entirely true. if you're looking at it from a purely suicide lead perspective, kangaskhan and absol fail to stop it setting (even with fake out). you already mentioned lycanroc earlier, and it's not advisable to double-mention things in this section).
Just some overall tidying up needed. Good job though. QC 1/3.

None of them want to come in on a +1 Hydro Pump, however. give aurorus a specific mention here bc u get OHKOd despite sash bc hail so that's something

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Combusken, Magmortar, and Pyroar have no issues KOing Masquerain with Fire Blast, even with +1. Special Defense. Similarly to Rock-types, however, none of them appreciate taking a plus one Hydro Pump.

[OVERVIEW]

Masquerain sports unique access to both Quiver Dance and Sticky Web, which in combination with its decent coverage in moves such as Hydro Pump and Ice Beam, gives it decent offensive presence and the ability to better deal with Pokemon that Leavanny has issues with such as Magmortar, as well as common Defoggers that Leavanny struggles against such as Altaria this is a gigantic sentence haha i would cut it down/split into two. However, it's very difficult to justify using Masquerain over Leavanny as a Sticky Web setter due to the latter's higher Speed, greater offensive presence, and slightly better defensive typing. I would suggest adding Smeargle in as a competitor as well. As a result of Masquerain's only decent Speed and offensive presence, it is very susceptible to Taunt from Pokemon such as Skuntank, which isn't a problem for the faster Leavanny, who outspeeds Skuntank. I'd also mention how Leavanny has access to support moves, such as Knock Off, Magic Coat, and Electroweb, while Masquerain is forced to take an offensive role as a webber. It has a difficult time against common Defoggers like Silvally-Water as a result of its typing, and they can easily take advantage of this by getting rid of Sticky Web with little to no issue. Poor bulk and defensive typing don't grant it many opportunities to switch out, meaning that it can only work efficiently as a lead.

Moves
========

Sticky Web, the main reason to use Masquerain, decreases the Speed of all opposing, grounded Pokemon upon entry, which is good for supporting Masquerain's teammates by slowing the opposing team down. Bug Buzz is Masquerain's main and most powerful STAB, and it hits Dark-, Grass- and Psychic-types like Absol, Lilligant, Mesprit, (Oxford Comma) and Musharna for super effective damage. Hydro Pump gives Masquerain not only the ability to hit Pokemon like Magmortar, but common users of Stealth Rock such as Palossand and Regirock as well, for super effective damage. Alternatively, Ice Beam allows for Masquerain to hit Pokemon such as Altaria, Drampa, and Oricorio-G for super effective damage I'd mention how this is more so for defoggers, as hydro is more for rockers. The final option for this slot, Air Slash, gives it a secondary STAB option for hitting Fighting-types harder than any of its other moves. Finally, Quiver Dance increases Masquerain's Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed by one, slightly increasing its offensive presence it also makes it less susceptible to Taunt.

Set Details
========

Maximum investment in both Speed and Special Attack serves to maximize its offensive presence. A Timid nature allows it to outspeed Pokemon such as neutral natured Magmortar, Shiftry, and Skuntank, and gives it an easier time attempting to set up Sticky Web. Focus Sash always allows Masquerain to live one attack from full, which means that its almost always getting up Sticky Web. Intimidate is Masquerain’s only viable ability. It decreases the Attack of the opposing Pokemon by one, which can help it set up Sticky Web later on should it need to switch out.

Usage Tips
========

Leading with Masquerain is almost always ideal due to this giving it the best possible chance it can get to set webs up as soon as possible. Using Quiver Dance afterwards is smart, as this will give it a slightly better match-up against Defoggers and make it more likely that Sticky Web will remain up. i'd also mention how QD can be used to prevent being setup/taunt fodder. If Masquerain cannot beat a certain Defogger like Swanna, preserving it until the Defogger is removed is ideal, as Masquerain's main priority is setting up the web and they will render its attempts pointless. This can be difficult, however, due to its poor bulk and 4x weakness to Stealth Rock. Masquerain should avoid setting up directly on Defoggers like Swanna given how easily they can force it out and take advantage of the switch by Defogging, especially if its Focus Sash has been broken. Masquerain has to play carefully around Taunt users such as Sableye, as they can prevent it from doing much of anything outside of firing off weak attacks.

Team Options
========

They both also have the advantage of pressuring Defoggers with their strong STABs, and Golurk can even provide Stealth Rock to weaken the Flying-types that aren't affected by Sticky Web. Haunter can be considered too, and it can prevent Defog with Taunt, and possibly take out annoyances with Destiny Bond if need be, although it does have a harder time against Skuntank and is more frail. Pawniard and Primeape make for great teammates due to them both being able to deter and punish the use of Defog due to their shared ability in Defiant. They both also check Skuntank, a major annoyance for Masquerain. Checks to Flying-types like Swanna are important, as they are immune to Sticky Web and can usually remove Sticky Web with ease. Raichu-Alola fits this role perfectly, and it appreciates Sticky Web giving it an easier time cleaning up opposing teams.

Other Options
=============

A more offensive set centered around Quiver Dance making use of either Life Orb or one of Buginium or Flyinium Z may sound appealing, but such a set has very little reason to be used over Lilligant, who is faster, stronger, and slightly bulkier. Furthermore, Masquerain's main niche in Sticky Web is forgone by this set. Roost seems appealing, but it has trouble finding room for it on either set and much prefers the coverage, and it has trouble recovering its health on strong attackers such as Kangaskhan or Stoutland. Haze can remove stat boosts from Pokemon like Carracosta, but again, it has problems fitting it on its set over anything else.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt and Encore**: Masquerain is incapable of doing much of anything should it be Taunted by Sableye or Skuntank, and none of its moves are particularly desirable to be locked into by Encore from Pokemon like Audino.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Common Defoggers such as Altaria, Swanna, and Silvally-Water are annoying for Masquerain to deal with, as Masquerain cannot OHKO any of them depending on its coverage, and they don't have issues KOing it and then Defogging the only mon i see that can KO it is Swanna, so i'd reword that a bit. Altaria has a tough time against it should it have Ice Beam, however. Although the matchup is tougher for them, Rapid Spinners such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan and Kabutops can be annoying for it to deal with, as well. i'd mention how kabutops can hit it with a rock move

**Stealth Rock**: Masquerain loses 50% of its health when it comes in if Stealth Rock is up, which breaks its Focus Sash and makes it less capable of supporting its team as well. however, since it is mainly a lead, it doesn't have much opportunity to switch into rocks anyways

**Rock-types**: Rock-types such as Archeops, Aurorus, Regirock, and Lycanroc can all KO Masquerain with their respective STABs, even with an Attack drop. Lycanroc can even revenge kill Masquerain after a Quiver Dance with Accelerock, while Aurorus can OHKO Masquerain through its Focus Sash due to Snow Warning. It's worth noting that none of them appreciate taking a +1 Hydro Pump. you could also mention how archeops could possibly defog as well

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Combusken, Magmortar, and Pyroar have no issues KOing Masquerain with Fire Blast, even with +1 Special Defense. Similarly to Rock-types, however, none of them want to take a +1 Hydro Pump.
