So here is our team. We began with Clamperl as a Shell Smash sweeper, and decided to base the team around securing a sweep for it. Focus Sash Diglett was added to provide Memento support to help Clamperl set up, to trap the frightening priority user Pawniard, and to take care of various bulky Pokemon such as Mareanie. Alolan Grimer was then added to check sun, trap some offensive threats such as Abra and Gastly, and take care of Ferroseed if needed. The LC community saw a need for Stealth Rock, and chose Pawniard for its ability to set this hazard to assist Clamperl in its sweeping and provide offensive pressure and priority. Alas, the submitted set did not actually contain Stealth Rock. As a weakness to Fighting-types developed, the need for a check was addressed by adding Snubbull, which despite its ugliness was determined to fit the team well because of its offensive pressure and ability to deal with those pesky fighters. Just now, we completed the team with Pumpkaboo-Super, which checks Ground-types for the team and provides some support with Will-o-Wisp.

But our team is not done!

Basically, the final stage of our building has arrived: the review. In this stage, a few of our LC Team Raters will look over the team and give some suggested changes. Then, we as a community will vote on what changes to implement. If you see an issue with the team and want to suggest a change, you can do it at this stage. However, I'm reserving the right to veto changes that I don't think are justified well in the interest of building a solid team.

Looking very nice guys, lets finish this as best possible.

This team will have its bad matchups no matter what due to the fact that we are building around an offensive core without any notable defensive utility in Clamperl + Diglett, but that's reasonable as long as it at least has a chance to win negative matchups and its negative matchups are offset by its positive matchups.

We're looking pretty decent in terms of Pokemon chosen. Snivy would have been a good fit in the last slot as it doesn't lose momentum as badly as Pumpkaboo does and leaves us slightly less vulnerable to Pawniard and Scraggy, but Pumpkaboo works as well to spread burns. I'll just try to optimize some of the sets.

Clamperl should have a Timid nature so that it hits 26 Speed after a Shell Smash. With a Modest nature, it only reaches 24 Speed, tying with Scarf Pawniard, Rufflet, and Vullaby, as well as being outsped by the 17 Speed Choice Scarf users that hit 25 Speed after Scarf, such as Scarf Mienfoo and Chinchou. These are all very important Choice Scarf users; on top of that, if Clamperl is able to maintain its Deepseatooth after setting up Shell Smash, it already easily OHKOes the entire metagame except for the easily worn down Eviolite Ferroseed and the mostly irrelevant Eviolite Munchlax, so Timid is almost strictly the better nature.

We cannot afford to run hazard removal, and we do not have the means to significantly pressure hazard setters. As a result, the Focus Sash on Diglett is a bit of a waste. Fightspam is an enormous threat to our team seeing how our only check is the easily worn down Snubbull; furthermore, Timburr easily shut down Pawniard's sweep and revenge-kill a weakened Clamperl. Fortunately, Timburr is fairly easy to Knock Off, but Focus Sash Diglett doesn't pack anywhere near the punch to KO even an itemless Timburr; for this, we need a Groundium Z. This also helps to trap Knocked Off Mienfoo and Foongus that bother certain members of our team. If we go this route, it may be worth running Stealth Rock over Sucker Punch to break Sturdy and generally wear things down. Stealth Rock Diglett is incredibly underwhelming overall, and losing priority in Sucker Punch isn't ideal despite how weak it is; however, we can't really work with an offensive team like this one and forgo hazards, and Clamperl really needs Memento.

Alternatively, our checks to Sun sweepers and Choice Scarf Mienfoo are somewhat flimsy, and we rely heavily on preventing setup when dealing with Shell Smash users. Choice Scarf Diglett can revenge-kill weakened Sun sweepers, Choice Scarf users, and Shell Smashers fairly reliably, though this amplifies our weakness to Timburr, and Choice Scarf Diglett isn't really that good of a set overall.

Also, Rock Slide isn't too useful on this set seeing how it barely threatens most Flying-types and in most cases we would rather Memento on Larvesta to use it as prime setup bait for Clamperl. The one exception is Scarf Doduo, which outspeeds and revenge-kills Clamperl. On the other hand, offensive Cottonee is a big threat to our team, hitting Pawniard with Hidden Power Fighting and deterring Clamperl from setup with Encore, which suggests running Sludge Bomb over Rock Slide (Groundium Z) or Sucker Punch (Choice Scarf), and changing Diglett's nature to Hasty. (We don't want a Naive nature or else +2 Croagunk's Vacuum Wave has a good chance to OHKO.) It's also worth noting that Pumpkaboo's Fire Blast puts Eviolite Snivy into range of Diglett's Sludge Bomb most of the time, although this won't work against Berry Juice Snivy.

Fire Blast is definitely the best choice for the last slot here so that we aren't totally reliant on Diglett to deal with Pawniard, especially since we only have one Pokemon that really appreciates Memento support in Clamperl and a more reliable Memento user in Diglett. Gunk Shot is needed to OHKO Eviolite-less Bellsprout.

If we don't run Stealth Rock on Diglett, we'll need to give up a sweeper and use Stealth Rock over Swords Dance on Pawniard. Otherwise, this set seems fine.

We're a bit too reliant on Diglett to deal with Croagunk. We also need a proper Nasty Plot Vullaby check, which OHKOes Snubbull with +2 Air Slash after Stealth Rock. Eviolite Earthquake 13 Speed Snubbull helps to remedy both of these issues and has the added benefit of avoiding the OHKO from non-Life Orb Bellsprout's base Sludge Bomb after Stealth Rock. Thunder Wave is definitely our move of choice in the first slot to cripple Sun sweepers and deter Shell Smashers from setting up after opposing Memento. Now that we no longer need Thief, Bulk Up makes Snubbull even more intimidating.

Snubbull @ Eviolite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 116 Atk / 36 Def / 116 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Play Rough
- Earthquake
- Bulk Up

The current set is fine but if we go with Scarf Diglett and Stealth Rock Pawniard, Ghostium Z Pumpkaboo-Small gives us a secondary sweeper. A faster EV spread of 36 Def / 244 SpA / 228 Spe with a Timid Nature works too to outspeed Scarf Magnemite and tie with Scarf Pawniard, Rufflet, and Vullaby.

You read it. Do you agree?
Here's how our FINAL voting stage works. I've decided to allow voting for one of three options.

1. Make no changes to the team
2. Timid Clamperl; Stealth Rock Sludge Bomb Groundium Z Hasty Diglett; Fire Blast Gunk Shot Alolan Grimer; Earthquake Thunder Wave Bulk Up 13 Speed Eviolite Snubbull
3. Timid Clamperl; Sludge Bomb Choice Scarf Hasty Diglett; Fire Blast Gunk Shot Alolan Grimer; Stealth Rock Adamant Pawniard; Earthquake Thunder Wave Bulk Up 13 Speed Eviolite Snubbull; Ghostium Z Pumpkaboo-Small

You can see what the team would look like with the proposed changes above.

For the first 48 hours, you can submit a custom vote, i.e. voting for some of Levi's proposed changes without choosing one of the blanket options. If you justify your vote well, I will add it as an option. However, if you don't have a really good reason for making a custom vote, please vote for one of the options above.

Gummy

...three, smiles go for miles!
Can I make a suggestion? Everything in option two sounds heat except for Stealth Rock Diglett. I feel like Stealth Rock Pawniard would work a lot better. Then we could afford to run Memento on Dig.

To be clear, I feel like eq/rslide/sludge/memento with groundium z for dig, and the standard pawn set we have now with swords dance swapped out for stealth rock.

If not then I just vote option 2 :p

I think this team looks pretty solid, so thank you to everyone who contributed over the course of this project. I hope everyone has learned something about how the community puts together a team, and I know I've had fun seeing the submissions get discussed. Props if you use this on the ladder!
