Now building for DUU and DUbers as well!
Hey guys and welcome to the new doubles ou teambuilding shop! After a deep slumber we're back again with new builders, and i'm proud to be running this project. As most of you probably noticed, other teambuilding shops have picked up activity and gotten success, and now we have our own too.
Not much has changed or is different, just your good old Teambuilding thread. I actually preserved the old requests that havnt been done, at least the recent ones.
link to the old shop : http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/doubles-ou-teambuilding-shop.3535365

For those of you unfamiliar with this kind of project, it consists of a crew of experienced Double players who are ready to build a team based on a pokemon/core that you request. Just make a post that includes your pokemon/core, along with 2-3 lines describing what it does, what do you want done with it (teamstyle, etc..) and we'll get right onto building it.

Some basic rules:
- You may post the set you wish to have on the pokemon as well, but keep in mind that if its too unviable it might be changed.
- Try to have reasonably viable pokemon/cores. Sure we're up to build non-standard, but its also our objective to give solid teambuilding examples, in order to give you guys insights when building, which is hard to accomplish if the submission is too unviable. Perhaps consult the viability rankings found here : http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/doubles-ou-viability-rankings.3535930/
- We may choose to not accept a request. Try not to be too vanilla either, like requesting a mega-kangaskhan offense.
- Refrain from ability gimmicks. This includes things like Perish Trap, Skill Swap + Slaking, Skill Swap Spinda, Sturdy Shedinja, Wonder Guard Electrics, and so on and so forth. If it involves targetting a partner, its generally an unsucessful strategy.
-
Do not flame people in any way, let it be for not building a team themselves, or for any request they might have.
- The teams provided are, naturally, not pefect just like every single team. Feel free to edit and experiment with them.
- Following up to that, its very encouraged, and more than welcome, for you to post your experience with the team, how it went, weaknesses, and mostly edits you found better on it, replays, etc.. it helps everyone, builders included.
- Do not post a complete team, or a core composed of more than 3 pokemon at most. If you're looking more for a team critique than build, its the RMT (rate my team) forum you should hit.
- Be reasonably patient after you make a request and it hasnt been picked up. We also have other things to do/teams to build. On that note, if your request spent days untouched, you may bump it up/change it.
- Please be kind when you post, and enjoy!

Lately I've really enjoyed using hyper offense Deoxys-A teams, but I'm struggling to build a viable one that doesn't use Mega Kanghaskhan in the mega slot.

If an experienced builder is up to it, I was wondering if a HO team could be built around a Deoxys-A + Infernape core?

My theory is that Infernape provides the same fast Fake Out support that a Jolly Kanga does, but has a more reliable matchup against opposing Kangas and bulky steels that trouble Deoxys-A (Jirachi, Aegislash, Ferrothorn, etc.)

The sets I'm considering for this core are pretty standard and I'm open to something better, but here they are:

Deoxys-Attack @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Psycho Boost
- Superpower
- Extreme Speed
- Detect

Infernape @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 36 Atk / 220 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Overheat
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Protect

Matame

New Rules
Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Return
- Power-Up Punch
- Sucker Punch
sub kanga seems like a great way to apply immense offensive pressure early game. Behind a sub Kangaskan is extremely threatening as as it is immune to status and Intim which are common ways to soften mega kang's attacks. Subbing on peoples attempts to scout fake out is surprisingly easy and can lengthen the time kang is allowed to punch holes through the opposing team. I'm a shitty builder so im leaving it to you lot

Alright so over my year in this meta there have been few mons that gave me as much trouble when trying to build around them as Char-X. I have never managed to put together a team that I felt was well rounded and effective and that worked for my more balanced playstyle, so I'm hoping that one of you can help me out.

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Clefable @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Icy Wind
- Follow Me
- Protect

Edit: Feel free to mess with the clefable spread or set a bit. I'm not certain what's best for it, but the set I provided seems relatively standard.

I had a ton of fun making this team, started with the requested core of Deo-A + Infernape. The first issue I saw was Talonflame, so Mega Diancie fit quite well, also fulfilling the requirement of no Mega Kang. Then I needed something that could actually switch in to Landorus-T and I wanted Intimidate. Started out with Mence, but Yellow Paint pointed out to me that Gyara would fit much better, so I made that switch. Rain matchup and sun matchup were both looking pretty iffy and I had no speed control, so Thund fit quite well next. Finally, I needed a Kang switchin, probably a Steel-type. Definitely wanted something that could match up fairly well against Latios, that maybe provided some other bit of speed control, so everyone's favorite/least favorite Jirachi rounded out the team pretty nicely.

Filling in sets, I knew I wanted to use qsns' Knock Off Deo-A Spread since Latios was a bit of a pain in general and it looked fun. Eventually chose Superpower > ESpeed to aid in the fight against Steels, which outside of Infernape were a major pain. Although I usually don't like Protect on Infernape and originally had Encore, Protect is actually pretty crucial in this team since there are so few opportunities for free switches out once Infernape has taken something out. Jolly LO DD Gyara helps a bunch against Lando-T since it OHKOs at +0 (aka +1 followed by Intimidate), and Stone Edge improves the Sun matchup which is rough. Thund didn't feel right with a wholly bulky or wholly offensive set, so I came up with this hybrid between the two - it lives Kang Return, LO Bisharp Knock, and Timid Mence Draco, while OHKOing Mence / Lando-T / Keldeo and outspeeding all Gyarados variants. Feel free to mess around with the EVs on that, but this has worked pretty well in testing. Rachi's spread lives Talon Flare Blitz and outspeeds Modest Heatran to go for flinches because that matchup isn't the best. Helping Hand > Protect is generally useful for a team as offensive as this one, and Icy Wind helps things like Ape and Diancie that are *almost* fast enough.

Enjoy! Also, I know that has been mentioned in the title, but just in case anyone didn't notice: We're accepting requests for ALL Doubles tiers now! Thanks for kamikaze for suggesting this change, I think it will help to keep this resource alive. We have a few experienced players in DUU and one of the most experienced DUbers players in Yellow Paint, so the building team should be readily equipped to handle anything.

I've also been really wanting to build Sub Kang for a while so I'm gonna go ahead and call dibs on Matame's request

I've built teams for most doubles metas at this point in time, but I have never been able to build for DUbers successfully. I've always been able to get started, but i've never been able to build a solid team for the format, so can I have a dubers team built around this monster of a mon.

Rayquaza-Mega @ Life Orb
Ability: Delta Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

I've wanted to have a team based around this mon since you can't use it in singles ubers. For the team, I would prefer to have a redirector paired with it, but have it not be paired with Mew (so no bunnies.) Thanks!

So after testing out talkingtree's Deoxys/Infernape team for a while, I made one small tweak to Infernape's moveset.

I replaced Protect with Quick Guard, and that has really helped to patch up the team's weakness to priority attacks (while also adding an extra layer of protection against Talonflame in general).

Here's a few ggs that show this in action:

  • GenOneRaisedGenY vs. xpatriette
On Turn 1 Infernape's Quick Guard simultaneously protects Deoxys-A from a Kanga Fake Out and a Thundurus T-Wave, allowing Deoxys to clear an OHKO unscathed. This replay in general also just showcases the team's good synergy against a tough opponent.

  • Zolydeo vs. GenOneRaisedGenY
On Turn 2 Quick Guard protects Deoxys-A from a Kanga Sucker Punch, allowing the team to maintain offensive pressure.

  • GenOneRaisedGenY vs. meitsu
On Turn 2 Quick Guard protects Deoxys-A from a Talonflame Brave Bird, allowing Deoxys to OHKO a mon that otherwise would've been problematic for the rest of the match.
I'm also still wavering on what EV spread I like best for Thundurus. The fully offensive spread is nice for outspeeding Diancie, applying more offensive pressure and checking bulky water types better. But not having Taunt is a problem against Trick Room teams, and the lack of bulk can be noticeable at time. I wouldn't use the regular bulk spread though - talkingtree's custom spread is the best option if not going full-offense.

252+ SpA Primal Groudon Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Shuca Berry Dialga: 178-211 (44.1 - 52.3%) -- 19.1% chance to 2HKO

Hey ! so the core was changed and bisharp was removed, giving me a lot more room to prepare for sun, fairies and thundurus, which all beat kangaskhan+keldeo+bisharp. The initial core, kangaskhan-mega and keldeo is there, kangaskhan is standard jolly, because whats the point of being adamant if you'll get koed first, and keldeo has taunt as your first way of preventing trick room. talonflame was the scariest threat that poped up to my mind after that, so i added heatran, sealing off the sun+fairies match up with it all in one pokemon, which is phenomenal. now i get a lot of "oh no!its that awful shuca sub set" talk, but my experience shows it works, as it can be strategic to plan weather to sub, or use shuca. landorus was then added for more talonflame boping, intimidate to discourage physical attackers, plus speed and a fast pivot. 184 evs outspeed mega gengar (credits to Yellow Paint for that) and underspeed other landorus for slow u turn. latios is your second ground immunity, tailwind setter when they have tailwind/weather, and solid dragon fast pokemon. it also pairs fantastic with heatran. patching up the fairy weakness that persisted, and trick room agent+solid kangacheck(because a team doesnt have too many kangaskhan check) came aegislash, also sheilding you from nasty spread. its standard and solid. the one bopper is that the team dislikes facing thundurus, but it far from clicks x vs it. trick room is slightly problematic, and very problematic if they have a hoopa alongside it. i hope you enjoy !

any changes i'd consider are:
-using goggles on aegislash/heatran or sub aegislash
- hp ground latios
-quick guard/taunt on keldeo depending if you dislike trick room or thundurus more

i tried a lot to make it viable, but its still a medium level team. Mega blastoise does what you wanted it to do, living what your evs benchmark it to do, and thundurus does the same. yellow magic is what it is, slows and cripples. raindance is your sun check here, actually, boping heatran along the way for your double steel. talonflame works in rain too and provides that tailwind, which is why i chose it as this team's fire type. hydreislash is a cool core that checked trick room, gave me a kangaskhan immunity, and they resist grass and partly electric, pairing well with mega blastoise. hydreigon gives you ground coverage. ferrothorn is your other trick room buddy, amongus check, loves rain and second kangaskhan check, also gives f/w/g core.

warning, it does on paper a lot better then in practice, sadly.. but well, i hope you enjoy! another user can still pick up your request btw

Rachi lives pblades and pogre water spout with a speed dump. Metal coat allows it to 2hko xern, but other item options include shuca and sitrus. The xern lives ray's combined ascent+espeed and takes a 3hko from pblades with a spa dump. Make sure to preserve pdon, it's often necessary lategame for stopping xern or just taking hits and retaliating. I'm a little unsure on the optimal ekiller set, but shadow force has done well enough for me in the past.

Thanks Yellow Paint! This team has been really fun for me to play around with, and I really thank you for making it!

Nice to see this back again. This time seems to be better organized that the last thread.
The most difficult teams to build for me are DUbers ones, so I'd like to request one. I was gonna ask for one around dd mega ray but one very similar has already been built so I'll ask for a TR team

This is one of the TR setters, I'd like one or two more. The rest of the team is up to you but I'd like no Kangaskhan, if possible. I'd prefer Mega Mawile or any other mon as the mega, but if you find mega kan really necessary or just very nice while teambuilding I'll accept it.

Thanks beforehand :]

EDIT: changed my mind, I'm fine with mega kan on the team

This team is basically standard RayOgre but with a few tricks up its sleeve. I started with Rayquaza, obviously, and added Jirachi to provide redirection support so Ray can set up. It's a great partner for Rayquaza since it checks Xerneas and Dragon-types, which Rayquaza hates, while Rayquaza checks Primal Groudon, which Jirachi hates. Next I added Primal Kyogre to complete the RayOgre core and to check Primal Groudon. Then I added Xerneas since it just pairs so nicely with Jirachi, who allows it to set up Geomancy without a worry. I wanted another check to Primal Groudon and needed an answer to bulky Steel-types so I added Ho-Oh, who also provides Tailwind support (most notably for Primal Kyogre). Finally I added Thundurus since I had zero checks to HypnoGravity and wanted another reliable form of speed control.

The sets are mostly straight forward. I'm running max SpDef Jirachi to take Xerneas' Fairy-type attacks as well as possible and a Shuca Berry so it can take at least one Precipice Blades from Primal Groudon. Thunder Wave neuters Xerneas and other fast attackers, while Follow Me allows Rayquaza and Xerneas to set up easily. Kyogre's set is entirely standard, although you can forgo Scald for more situational moves such as Thunder or Water Spout. Xerneas' EVs outspeed neutral natured base 90's. I'm running HP Ground over Moonblast to hit Primal Groudon and Steel-types hard, since Dazzling Gleam still does a hell of a lot and with Jirachi's redirection you don't often need more power. Ho-Oh's set is, again, standard. Thundurus has max Speed so it can outspeed and Taunt Meowstic, the fastest Prankster Gravity setter. Focus Sash gives it some longevity and I'm running Protect to prevent the Sash from being broken by Fake Out users. If you're feeling cheeky you can run HP Water on Thundurus so you're not dead weight against opposing Primal Groudon.

Hope you all enjoy.

Started off with the requested Sub Kangaskhan set, originally added Talon and Amoon for Tailwind support and redirection, respectively, but the team was going nowhere so I combined the two with RP TW Volcarona. Tailwind support provides Kang with more Sub opportunities if the opponent tries to stall out Tailwind, and redirection should be obvious. Volc also fit better than Togekiss as it was able to take on Jirachi far easier. With those two as the starters, the biggest threats were Mega Diancie and Keldeo, so OThund was a perfect fit. Next I wanted something to take on Sylv/Mega Garde that could otherwise get around the Sub with Hyper Voice, and Aegislash also greatly improved the Jirachi match up so I went with that. Opposing Mega Kang and Lando-T were the next two big problems I saw, and Taunt Keld grants the team another way to stop TR, which is nice since Kang doesn't have Fake Out. Finally, the team didn't have Lando-T yet so I added that. It fills all the holes I could find better than anything else: Intimidate, Zard answer, Rachi answer, bulky pivot.

The team is still quite Azurachi weak, so Mega Kang is EV'd to allow its Subs to live an unboosted Aqua Jet from Azu or live a +6 AJet from full. 240 Speed outspeeds Hydrei while giving the most Atk possible. Volcarona OHKOs Aegis / Amoon, lives Deo-A Psycho Boost, outspeeds Breloom, and dumps in Def. Rocky Helmet was Nido-Rus' idea, and it makes Volcarona a fantastic switch-in to Fake Out as well as a way to "pick off" low-health contact attackers. Thund has Magnet > Life Orb because I need it alive to help against Rain. Debated Discharge > TBolt to take on Azurachi better but TWave not only checks rain but allows Kang to fish for paras and Sub up. Aegis outspeeds Thund in TW... a more defensive spread would probably serve the team better but I couldn't find one that I liked so this was what I ended up with. Didn't need Goggles or Lefties and LO sounded bad so WP fits. Lando-T lives a Zard Overheat in Sun or a Kingdra Muddy Water in Rain, outspeeds Kingdra outside of Rain, rest in Atk. Feel free to change it for Jolly 220 if you want to outrun Mega Kang but since I opted for Knock > Superpower to take on Rachi, I felt like outspeeding Kang wasn't essential and preferred more power.

The team isn't perfect but it's pretty fun. Possible changes include Superpower > Knock on Lando, changing Lando spread, Toge > Volc and Heatran > Aegis, changing Aegis spread, and Seismic Toss > PuP on Kang (again, Nido's idea). Enjoy!
