Done answering phones: a snake draft team dump

Approved by Kamikaze and MajorBowman
Before I get started actually dumping my teams on the forums for everyone I wanted to just intro a bit with my snake experience and DOU in general over the last few months. If I'm being honest I didn't expect to have a lot of success in this tournament given the competition I was facing and being the only DOU player on my team. When I got sent the POTW interview form and it asked who I saw as the toughest competition I realized how good everyone was. When Kaori, Bowman and I made the power rankings I know I had the same thought, like how am I making a list that has Demantoid as the 5th best player on it?

That being said if at the beginning of the year I heard I'd go 6-3, I'd be thrilled but after a 4-0 start I can't help but think I should have finished better. While it wasn't my main goal each week, I hope that I was able to show some level of innovation in DOU throughout snake and shake up the meta a bit. I really enjoy the current meta and while there are a few brokens that I would like banned, the room for creativity in the current meta was a really fun part of this tournament for me. I had a blast in this tournament and after banning our germans the Nagas was a really fun environment who all cared about winning. Without further ado, here are my teams!

Disclaimer: I'm not gonna get too into the weeds about spreads and stuff because I'd rather just talk about the ideas behind the team but feel free to comment or pm me about something specific and I'm happy to explain it.

This was the team I brought vs Stax in phase 1 and it certainly was the weirdest team I used all tournament. I was pretty stumped on what to use vs Stax given how consistent he is as a player and the variety of teams he uses. I thought diancie would be a decent pick and then blarajan advised me to use eject button gastro and moltres for some reason. I actually really liked the idea once i fleshed it out and it turned into this team. Not the most consistent team I've ever built but its fun and I think it caught a really great player by surprise enough to give me a shot in that game.

My idea behind using rain/psyspam vs Level 51 was because I expected some kind of persian gothitelle garbage from him (sorry 51 but it was your first game I think and wanted to be prepared) and Memoric mentioned using deoxys rain to just power through whatever kind of trickery 51 had in store. I stole this idea from him and used it first, grabbing a win. Some cool sets here were LO hp ice marsh and SR deoxys-a which were just ways to pressure some of rains checks such as other weather and premier water resist Salamence.

This was probably my most normal team I used this season (or at least among the most normal) and I pulled a pretty good matchup of having curse lax semiroom vs a full trick room team. This was my first time using THE STEAMY ONE this tournament but he is vastly underrated rn. The EVs were pretty arbitrary but I liked how the defense helped me handle marshadow a bit better, I forget what the spdef EVs did. Band tar is a sick mon that I liked vs what Demantoid was using and used fire punch lax in case he brought ferro. Cool stuff, maybe this will be a sample team soon.
edit: this snorlax does not have all of its EVs, this is accurate to the version i used in snake so it will stay as such but here is a more legitimate spread:
Thunderous Snore (Snorlax) @ Figy Berry
Ability: Gluttony
Happiness: 0
EVs: 156 HP / 132 Atk / 52 Def / 168 SpD

This is my variant of Mega Scizor (which I really liked) and all of these teams are pretty similar. I knew matame was building a lot of Biosci's teams or at least influencing it which meant I was likely to see pokemon like Ninetales-A, Ttar or Ferrothorn; all of which Scizor can set up on. I ended up in a Scizor mirror which was not what I expected at all but I was happy with how I played that. Cool techs here were waterium Volcanion (shoutouts Bowman) and Counter scrafty which was kind of a call back to XY but i liked it as a panic answer to zygarde or Lando-t. I also have CB zyg here which I think I brought to DOU and I certainly think its the best set rn. The damage output is so nice for zyg and you really only click arrows or espeed anyway. One of my favorite teams I used this tour!

This was probably the worst team I brought in the tournament because it really didn't do damage outside of mega tar and Aegis. I really liked a lot of the ideas I had here (z steel aegis, mega tar + av cube + amoong) but it just didn't click and I also didn't have very good luck this game.

This was my second attempt at Deo stuff and it was a different look, this time trying to maximize the value I got out of deoxys with Amoong and Z move. This celes set was also HEAT and i really liked it in testing but if I remember right it didn't do very much this game. HP fire on deo did its job well this game , cool team and I think it shows how there is more than one team that deo fits on, even if this also has a lele.

I built this kind of last minute when I was second guessing the original team I had built. I really liked how this turned out even if it could probably be improved. Specs Koko is super good and thunder punch, super fat metagross complimented it well. I felt SR helped this team a lot with the volt/turn from Koko/Lando as well as Celes forcing switches with seeds. Ended up getting boned by SD lando but made it a tight game at the end. Really liked this team so definitely check it out.

This team was inspired by either Jhon or Level 51 , I don't know who had veil mew first, but it was a neat idea that I wanted to try. I went back to specs koko and had a Z marsh for breaking power with Aboma + Volcanion as trick room win cons. Veil helped volc get subs up and gave me more liberty to pivot around with koko as well as giving marsh really good bulk. Despite aboma getting vaporized by overheat, i liked how this team played and how well veil supported these pokemon.

This team was pretty cool and started because I wanted to use Kartana vs Jake, partly because it seemed like it would have good matchup vs fini/cube shit and also because I really doubted he'd expect me to use a team like this. Entei was definitely a weak link of this team and if I threw something else in its place or made it a bulkier set I could see this team being really good, but hey it did pretty well and only lost because of All Out Pummeling marsh! Fun game, probably the best game I was apart of even if I lost it.

Thanks all for reading, I'll keep shoutouts to a minimum but definitely want to thank MajorBowman , Kaori , Memoric , qsns, Level 51 and talkingtree for all the help testing and building this season. You guys rock and wish you guys the best of luck in other tours, happy to repay you guys with tests whenever.

Anti shoutouts to mazar, never come back to smogon, thanks.
Pak & Natalie. , I know neither of you had the snake you wanted but you're both great and I'm glad you got and are getting your shots in big tours. Hope this didn't burn you out forever :/

FlamingVictini and Sacri' for keeping our channel less rage fueled throughout the season, you guys both put up great records that really could have been even better without the Leftiez/Analytic games getting messy. You're both great and hope I get to team with you both again.

Tigres who didn't cheat, you're all awesome and I'm glad we've more or less been able to laugh this off. Tama, Zeb and Roro you guys taught me how to play in these tournaments and be a good teammate so I'm glad I got to show you all I can put up a good record.

also please explain what eject button gastrodon does

Thanks! Always interesting to see how you put a twist on more standard mons in your teams as well!

Eject gastro was an idea from rajan which I didn't really like a whole lot but here was the reasoning he gave me. He felt like rain was a really powerful force in the meta and that having some kind of way to switch into rain (with gastro). Eject button fits in to help give Diancie and Moltres free switchins because Gastro's typing allowed it to switch into moves that can threaten moltres.
