General Analysis
Ditto. Before Generation 5, Ditto was viewed as a method for breeding and literally nothing else. It was too gimmicky for any kind of use, and was never seen. In Generation 5, Ditto received the best ability it could have ever received in Imposter. Having the ability to copy an opponents exact moveset, boosts, and type on the switch in was exactly what Ditto was hoping for. The only thing Ditto doesn't copy is the target's HP, so Ditto can only run EV's in HP. While Ditto is now extremely easy to predict, switching in Ditto to a sweeper with multiple boosts and a Choice Scarf could be an end game for your opponent. Ditto is a viable option against sweepers, and is a great counter to anything and everything. It's unpredictable, fun, and derpy. It's a great Pokemon.

Only Moveset:

Imposter Ditto

Ditto @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
EVs: 252 HP
Sassy Nature
- Transform

The only set you'll ever see. The nature doesn't matter because it will change to whatever nature the opposing Pokemon has. The only EV's you'll ever need is 252 HP, as it is the only stat that stays with you once you transform into the opponent. Your HP stat maxes out at 300. Pretty simple, and works well.

Does Ditto still have viability in OU? Is there any REAL reliable counter? Discuss.

Ditto still works very well on Overused as the revenge killer it used to be. However, copying Dragons, the most common target, isn't as useful as it was before, taking into account it now gets walled more easily.

Ditto is a pokemon that when it works, you usually win the game, but when it doesn't, you lose a pokemon. High risk high reward I guess.

The most important thing when considering using a Ditto is taking into account the Hidden Power type (unless it also copies that in X/Y too). Other than that, Imposter Ditto is just there to put pressure on DD Pokemon. Quiver Dance, however...

if your team really struggles with boosters and quagsire isn't the answer you are looking for then he is a solid choice. can help to deal with mega lucario/mega kang/etc if you don't feel like planning for them and would rather just sac and revenge

I think he is most useful on defensive teams since some of the ridiculous sweepers this gen just need 1 turn of setup to obliterate entire teams (even defensive ones) and can help you out of a jam if you messed up somewhere

The only reliable counter to Ditto is keeping your head on your shoulders. You know what set it'll be running and it has five turns to attack. Using this knowledge is detrimental when stopping some threats. When teambuilding, one of the best ways to prepare for Ditto (and typically everything else) is to use Pokemon that check/counter each other. In many ways, you can prepare for other Pokemon, but you can especially prepare for Ditto...not that you need to do much. Unless it copies a Pokemon with Priority, THAT is going to hurt it.

Ditto's fine as a choice. Just seeing him in team preview makes me think twice about bringing out my mega or set up sweeper. That said, it is pretty gimmicky and can't just be thrown out with the hope of removing a big threat. Also, there are some pokemon out there that rely heavily on an item, so there's not much point in copying them. IMO, its best attribute is that it gets lols

Scarfed megas are no joke. Even though you might not always reverse-sweep with a ditto, often forcing out a +6 sweeper is enough to save the game.
After Kang gets the banhammer we'll probably see lots of lucario and pinsir. +2 mega lucario or mega pinsir with a scarf? yes please

There's not really much to discuss about Ditto. It's literally as one-dimension as a viable Pokemon can get and doesn't really encourage any discussion. Locking this. Feel free to bring up Ditto in the General Oldmons Discussion thread.
