Diglett (ADV NU Analysis)

Disaster Area

formerly Piexplode
[Overview]
Diglett functions very similarly to its Fully Evolved OU counterpart, but the central Pokemon are overall generally much less Diglett weak, with Hitmonchan, Chimecho, and Haunter being key pokemon in the tier for example. With a Choice Band equipped it can hit just about hard enough to trap a pleasant handful of Pokemon, but with proper teambuilding it can be abused or worked around. Its Poison and Rock resistances can allow it to switch in without requiring Baton Pass support, versus a handful of less offensive Pokemon.

[SET]
name: CB Trapper
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Rock Slide / Hidden Power Rock
move 3: Sludge Bomb
move 4: Hidden Power Ghost / Toxic / Thief / Facade
ability: Arena Trap
item: Choice Band
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]
- Earthquake is your STAB and decimates the majority of its Targets.
- Rock Slide or Hidden Power Rock provide amazing neutral coverage alongside Earthquake.
- Sludge Bomb is the only High-powered non-Hidden Power move (other than Aerial Ace), and thus gets its slot, as it's its strongest option versus Bellossom and Tangela.
- The last slot is filler; Hidden Power Ghost can hit Haunter, but it's unlikely that they end up in battle against one-another without already being Choice-Locked into Earthquake. No other Hidden Power really offers anything over its first 3 attacks. Toxic can be used to hit Sableye and various threats, but is fairly unimportant too. Thief can be used if you take a stray Knock Off, for example from Sableye, and allow you to disrupt, but this again is rarely going to be useful. Facade becomes more powerful if you get statused somehow.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Adamant is preferred since most of its Targets are slower and Bulkier (such as Swalot, Relicanth, and Sudowoodo), but Jolly can be used to tie with Plusle/Minun (or outspeed if they run less than max speed), as well as Haunter.
- Baton Pass and its Rock/Poison resists, or revenge killing, are your primary methods of bringing it into play.
- Teammates that love Rocks, Steels, and Fires gone, such as Pidgeot, Murkrow, and Tangela are all good partners. Baton Pass users such as Mawile, Plusle/Minun, and Venomoth are notable partners also, since they can help bring in Diglett safely.

[Other Options]
- Sunny Day, Body Slam, Aerial Ace, and Sleep Talk are all pretty useless options, but about as useless as any other filler on Diglett's set. Whilst it gets Endure, the lack of Flail or Reversal, and its already sky-high Base 95 speed makes it seem rather fruitless of an endeavor.

[Checks and Counters]
- Porygon is a highly mediocre Pokemon, but with Trace can hard counter Diglett, if played successfully.
- Using Rocks that are harder to wear down into Diglett KO range (such as Relicanth), or pokemon that can Baton Pass out or boost their speed (such as Mawile, Flareon, and Agility Metang) can all prevent themselves from being trapped by Diglett, whilst still doing their jobs. Pokemon that can set up on a Choice-Locked Earthquake, such as Sub Haunter and CM Chimecho make great partners to Pokemon weaker to Diglett, such as Flareon, Magcargo, Lairon, etc. since it allows the user to steal momentum back after the Pokemon is lost, getting a guarantee'd set-up.
