As soon as I saw the core, I knew that I had to build a hyper offence team - it's my favourite playstyle and the core was perfectly suited to it. I'm lazy and unoriginal so I took the basic hazards / utility / breaker / breaker / sweeper / speedmon framework and worked on that.
I started off with the core itself, and instantly decided that both Pokemon would be Life Orb variants and the wallbreakers on my team - I wanted to make the most of those enormous attacking stats.
Hoopa is running enough Speed to outrun Jolly Tyranitar - I'm not too sure why, considering it's not a common set and Tyranitar will just Sucker Punch anyway, but hey! A benchmark is a benchmark. Max Special Attack and a positive nature is fairly obvious - it provides Hoopa with as much special wallbreaking prowess as possible. Dark Pulse and Psystrike are absolute nukes, while Focus Blast provides solid coverage. Alternatively, Drain Punch helps with Life Orb recoil. Psychic is also an option to hit physical walls harder, although Dark Pulse deals with most of them. Finally, Sucker Punch tends to be rather unexpected on special sets, and it's kind of funny when you KO a Thundurus that thinks it can safely finish you off.
By now, everyone should be familiar with what Kyurem-Black does - it's an extremely dangerous physical wallbreaker that also offers priority in the form of Ice Shard. No explanation is really needed: I guess you could put Earth Power over something, but basically Kyurem just comes in and kills stuff with those disgustingly powerful Icicle Crashes.
Next, I had opened up a massive Fairy weakness, so I needed a way to stop that as well as a nice late game sweeper that could clean up after Hoopa and Kyurem weakened stuff. Bulky SD Mega Scizor fit the bill perfectly, and the only change from the typical OU set is that I'm running Pin Missile over Bug Bite. Scizor also helps with taking on FakeSpeeders.
However, while Scizor can revenge kill Fairies, it doesn't appreciate switching in to things like Will-O-Wisp or Fire Blast. Also, I was absolute destroyed by Sableye at this point, which could Dark Void Hoopa and burn Scizor and Kyurem. I also generally wanted a revenge killer. Choice Scarf Heatran fit the bill perfectly - it absorbs sleep and burns, and revenge kills plenty of fast threats. This one is running enough Speed to outspeed Jolly Aerodactyl and KO it with Flash Cannon. However, keep in mind that Scarf Heatran's attacks are generally quite weak and it's incapable of wallbreaking unless it hits the opponent super effectively.
Stealth Rock was needed, so Garchomp joined the squad. It's the typical OU tank set which outspeeds Jolly Tyranitar. I needed something to take on FakeSpeeders thanks to Hoopa's incredibly physical frailty, and I decided that taking away almost a third of Stoutland or Ursaring's health every time they touched me was an adequate punishment. The moves should be fairly self-explanatory - Stealth Rock is Stealth Rock, Precipice Blades makes up for the general lack of power, Stone Edge hits Thundurus and Mega Charizard Y, and Roar stops setup sweepers (including Fairies like Shell Smash Azumarill, unlike Dragon Tail) and racks up hazard damage.
Finally, Thundurus slows down Pokemon for the wallbreakers and ensures that your opponent cannot move with only one move, and it's a move that can also go first a lot of the time! Prankster Thunder Wave provides massive utility, being an emergency button vs. setup sweepers, as well as generally slowing down offensive Pokemon. Thunderbolt and Oblivion Wing are the two necessary STAB attacks, beating things like troublesome Water- and Fighting-types. Taunt can break stall and shut down Mega Slowbro for the most part (a massive pain to this team) while Focus Blast is a risky move but provides valuable coverage.
There are a number of changes you can make if you want to use this (highly unrecommended lel) such as:
- fully special Hoopa
- a VoltTurn component (U-turn Scizor, Volt Switch Thundurus, even Parting Shot Hoopa)
- defensive Landorus-T over Garchomp for more longevity but more difficulty with Defiant users
- a more offensive Scizor spread/set
- small moveset changes like Earth Power Kyurem
- slapping Choice Band on Kyurem
- etc.
No one's going to be reading this by now, so I'll say it here: Zangooser is a terrible, terrible user.
