[Set Recommendations]

name: Physical Attacker
move 1: Play Rough
move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Fire Fang / Substitute
move 4: Substitute / Swords Dance
ability: Intimidate
item: Mawilite
evs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 124 Spe
nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)

Boasting a monstrous 678 Attack stat, Mega Mawile is a premier physical attacker. Play Rough is its main attack, getting good coverage in conjunction with Fire Fang. Sucker Punch gives Mega Mawile a valuable form of priority, helping to remedy its low Speed stat. Substitute not only offers Mega Mawile a way to avoid status, also helps remove an element of prediction from Sucker Punch. Substitute also allows Mega Mawile to beat many of its checks that resist Sucker Punch more easily than a Swords Dance based set would. Swords Dance, however, lets Mega Mawile break through defensive cores much easier at the cost of gaining many more offensive checks. This can be slightly accounted for by running both Swords Dance and Substitute on one set, but it's important to note that Mega Mawile loses valuable coverage in Fire Fang.

The EVs let Mawile outspeed unboosted Scizor, Aegislash, and Azumarill, with the rest focusing on maximizing damage output and bulk. Stone Edge is an option over Fire Fang for hitting Fire-type Pokemon such as Talonflame or Mega Charizard-Y, while still retaining a way to hit Skarmory hard. Mawile really appreciates partners that can handle Fire-type Pokemon easily, making Rotom-W an excellent partner. Similarly, Dragon-type Pokemon also pair well with Mega Mawile as it is immune to their Dragon-type weakness and resists their Ice-type weakness. Mega Mawile also partners well with specially defensive Fairy-types who can pass Wishes to Mawile and give cleric support, such as Florges. Mega Mawile really appreciates Sticky Web support, augmenting its low Speed stat. Alternatively, Mega Mawile can make for a good sweeper under Trick Room, making use of its naturally low speed.

[Checks and Counters]

Very little can wall Swords Dance Mega Mawile once it has set up, meaning the popular way of dealing with it is through faster bulky sweepers such as Garchomp. However, if Mega Mawile lacks Swords Dance, physical walls such as Hippowdon and Skarmory are able to take hits and threaten it by setting entry hazards or phazing it out. Rotom-W can bypass Sucker Punch on Swords Dance sets and Will-O-Wisp Mega Mawile, however it has a lot more trouble against Substitute sets. Fire-type Pokemon such as Mega Charizard-Y do fairly well against Mega Mawile, as they resist its STABs.

Question: Foul Play is a Gen 5-Only Tutor move according to Serebii. PokeBank has not been released yet at the time of this post. Why is this on here? Don't get me wrong, this looks fantastic, but still. xD

Oops didn't check legality on that move, thanks for catching that.

I really dont see how a defensive set can be viable without Foul Play so I'm removing it for now. Feel free to comment if anyone can find a viable 4th move, as I don't really see anything worthwile other than Iron Head / Sucker Punch, both of which look rather unappealing.

name: RestTalk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Play Rough
move 4: Foul Play
ability: Intimidate
item: Mawilite
evs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)

 • This set trades immediate wall breaking power for longevity
 • Can initially make use of Mawile's original ability, Intimidate.
 • Play Rough serves as Mega Mawile's main way of inflicting damage
 • Foul Play works spectacularly on this set, receiving a boost from Huge Power
 • The EVs focus on maximizing bulk while giving Mega Mawile enough Speed to beat a minus Speed nature Aegislash
 • This set appreciates Special walls as partners
 • Really appreciates checks to Fire-types

ok this should be ready for its last check

You may want to mention something about running minimum Speed in the set comments if you'd like to put Mawile in a Trick Room team. Mawile hits a minimum of 94 speed at level 100 while simultaneously boasting 678 attack and an all-out attacking set/sub meaning it's definitely viable under Trick Room.

As for the defensive Mawile set, it's probably not worth using your mega stone slot on something that performs so much better offensively anyway - especially when it currently lacks Foul Play.

nice work. Just remember, specially defensive instead of Specially Defensive and physically bulky instead of Physically bulky. :)

Small thing is that the EV spread has an even HP number, 120Hp 252atk 136spe avoids that and lets you outspeed 248hp/252atk/8spe scizor, and sucker punch as it tries to BP or Fire Fang it before it can roost/SD

That would be speed creep, which isn't allowed in analyses. Also Mawile resists SR, though if you're really worried about Spikes, you could do that.

Yeah ok, sorry. I am just OCD with even HP counts and I usually run 8spe Scizor myself. Again, sorry for the trouble.
