Competitive Build Theorycrafting For Most of Gen 7

Status
Not open for further replies.
My first look at potential builds for most the new wild Pokes based on the information given.
Source of moveset information here: https://projectpokemon.org/research/sunmoon/learnsets.txt
The pictures that i have made are from leak videos that have been disabled on youtube.

So there are probably a lot of things to improve on here. But i have posted this in the hope it will inspire people to think of even better ways of using the mons after seeing my insight. Critique and discussion encouraged.

Any mistakes, do point out. Build Exporting on PKHex isn't 100% working and updated yet and i had to convert each Pokemon to Abomasnow in order to export the set, then alter the Pokemon name and Ability back on here.

PS: I hardly post in forums and didn't see any rules against making a post like this and thought it would be easier to make one big post, rather than submit replies for each individual Pokemon thread. But i was really interested in getting some critique. sorry if i have done anything wrong.

I don't think he's going to be very good either way but why no stakeout on Gumshoos?
Not Sure whether making use of STAB Return with Adaptability would be more average damage/consistently useful, rather than relying on Gumshoos presence to always force switches in order to gain a boost, which obviously has the advantage of powering any move Type.

Golisopod needs First Impression to be truly viable, or at least give it a niche in what's essentially a 90 BP stab fakeout.
Is it confirmed in any leaks to be a Fake Out? I wasn't 100% sure if it had priority like that so i didn't include it in the current set. If that is the case then no doubt that is a staple move.

Also, anyone tested whether Solar Blade works like Solar Beam in Sunlight? I think Lurantis has potential to work on a sun team if so.

Any rationale behind specific movesets? Though Spirit Shackle is a great move in its own right, Decidueye is completely helpless once a normal type pokemon switches in. Maybe switch BP or Synthesis out for another move.

On the note of Lurantis, i just tested it and Solar Blade becomes a 1 turn move in Sunlight. So that helps people looking to make Sun builds for it, considering it gets Leaf Guard.

My rationale behind Decidueye, was ideally trap an opponent and prevent it switching with Shackle, Set up Swords Dance, Roost off damage if needed and Baton Pass the Stats to someone more suited to the sweeper role. Decidueye has a lot of special bulk and i thought his niche would be trapping leads, tanks, or specially orientated pokemon. The low Speed IV was to make sure the Baton Pass was last in a turn to provide a safe switch to the retrieving team mate.
I personally found it difficult to make Decidueye fit any other role other than support, as it is seems to be the jack of all and master of none.

I have noticed that many of the movesets that you have provided have return or double edge when theu dont have STAB. Non Stab normal type damaging moves are generally bad without a ability like one of the aerialate because of lack of coverage.

Cheryl.

Celesteela is Life
Toxapex should probably be running Scald over Poison Jab or Baneful Bunker, being able to threaten Ground-types (and Fire-types!) is pretty good for it and spreading burns AND poison at the same time is freaking sweet.

Also plz add Leech Life on the Golisopod set over Bug Bite, it's so much better than Bug Bite now that it's buffed.

The main problem is that when your opponent will switch out from Decidueye, they will switch into a counter (idk right now, but Tran / Zard / the Grass Tapu look like good bets), and you just can't stay on them. However, and that could be Decidueye main strength, you remove double-switching from your opponent options. Of course you can be lured, but it is pretty good to keep the momentum going. Shackle / U-Turn / Leaf Blade / Roost cover these needs.
What I don't know, however, is how viable this kind of set is going to be. On theory it seems good, but Decidueye's defenses, while decent, are nothing spectacular, his typing is a mixed bag... Honestly, I don't know, because there may be a niche for him.

Hi pkmnninja

While we appreciate your effort to cut down on spam by gathering all of your thoughts into one large post, we'd prefer if you used each Pokemon's individual threads to discuss potential movesets and possibilities. In this format, its very awkward to offer feedback as its not nearly as concentrated as it is in an individual thread. It also sort of defeats the purpose of the various mega threads that have been created and ironically enough opens the door for a flood of these sort of threads.

For that reason, I'm going to be locking the thread. It's obvious you put some effort into this, so I hope this isn't too discouraging. Feel free to post individual sets in the various scattered threads for feed back instead.
