Wings of Disaster

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Absol has a niche in the UU as a fast offensive trapper that's able to utilize its relatively high Speed and good movepool featuring Pursuit and Knock Off to outspeed and trap threats such as Latias and Gengar. Mega Absol also boasts solid coverage, with moves such as Superpower, Iron Tail, and Fire Blast allowing it to hit some if its switch-ins such as Terrakion, Sylveon, and Scizor. Magic Bounce is a decent ability as well, giving Absol the capability to bounce back Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp as well as potentially dissuade the use of entry hazards. However, Absol is immensely frail, which makes it very difficult to get into battle safely as well as very vulnerable to priority. It is somewhat weak overall, as its moves have somewhat low power, and it cannot hold any items to boost its damage output. Its typing also burdens it with three very common weaknesses, leaving it vulnerable to popular threats such Cobalion, Scizor, and Mega Altaria. Finally, Absol also faces major competition as a Pursuit trapper from Alolan Muk, Bisharp, and Krookodile, since they do not occupy a Mega slot, have more bulk, and also strong secondary typings to give them defensive utility as well as better coverage offensively. Thus, Absol's combination of power, speed, and coverage become its main selling points over its competition; make sure to take advantage of these traits well to ensure Absol doesn't become outclassed.

Moves
========

Knock Off functions as a strong, reliable STAB move for Mega Absol that can also remove items such as Blissey's Leftovers and Doublade's Eviolite. Pursuit is another important move that comprises Absol's niche, allowing it to trap threats such as Latias, Chandelure, and Celebi that attempt to switch out in fear of Knock Off or Sucker Punch. Fire Blast is a good coverage move to hit Cobalion, Klefki, and Scizor hard on a potential switch in. Superpower is an alternative that hits Hydreigon, Terrakion, and Mega Sharpedo hard if necessary. Finally, Sucker Punch functions as a useful priority move to revenge kill Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias as well as pick off weakened Mega Manectric and Mega Aerodactyl, while Iron Tail is a viable alternative that provides useful coverage move that hits Fairy-types such as Togekiss and Mega Altaria super effectively.

Set Details
========

Maximum EV investment in Attack and Speed is necessary to maximize Absol's capabilities as an attacker and revenge killer. Justified is a good ability prior to Mega Evolution that can allow Absol to switch into Dark-type moves from Pokemon like Choice-locked Krookodile and Hydreigon before Mega Evolving and gain an Attack boost, which can work to its advantage. A Naive nature is ideal if Mega Absol is going to run Fire Blast, but a Jolly nature will be better if not. Ideally, maximizing Absol's potential Speed is necessary in order to allow it to outspeed Gengar, Latios, and Latias while allowing it to tie with Starmie and Mega Houndoom. Magic Bounce is Mega Absol's only ability and can be used to bounce back status and entry hazards. However, keep in mind that Mega Absol's immense frailty prevents it from taking advantage of the ability reliably, since it has a very shaky matchup against many of UU's entry hazard setters, such as Cobalion.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Absol functions mainly as an offensive utility threat; send it in early- or mid-game and use its coverage, Knock Off, and Pursuit to pressure the opposing team. Since it is very frail, it should not switch directly into anything and needs support to get in safely. Double switching with prediction U-turn and Volt Switch support are useful to help it get into battle. Mega Absol should be used to Pursuit trap threats such as Latias, Latios, Gengar, and Chandelure, so it should remain healthy if its trapping abilities are needed. Mega Absol's coverage moves are useful for punishing its potential switch-ins, such as Hydreigon and Terrakion, possibly weakening them for teammates that have trouble with said Pokemon. If Mega Absol is carrying Sucker Punch in particular, it is wise to play carefully when trying to Pursuit trap certain Pokemon; Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias not locked into a move can easily revenge kill and defeat Absol if it doesn't click Sucker Punch while they can take Pursuit if they stay in. So in some situations, it may be better to use Knock Off or Sucker Punch to get the KO. When using Mega Absol, read situations carefully to win potential mind games with it and win against Pokemon it is supposed to check. In particular, it is advised not to use Pursuit against Starmie and Choice Scarf Latias unless you have revealed Sucker Punch. Mega Absol does not sweep teams on its own, so it is best used to weaken its potential checks and trap certain Pokemon to support its team.

Team Options
========

Mega Absol appreciates U-turn and Volt Switch support to help it get into battle more safely. Rotom-C is a particularly good candidate, since it can lure in Celebi and Latias, both targets for Mega Absol to trap. Scizor is also a solid teammate, since it can use its slow U-turn to get Mega Absol in more easily, and it also has Bullet Punch to take down Mega Altaria and Togekiss. Infernape appreciates Mega Absol's ability to check Latias, Latios, and Starmie, assuming Absol carries Sucker Punch. Infernape can also use U-turn to help Mega Absol enter battle and can check Hydreigon and Krookodile if it carries a Choice Scarf. Primarina can deal with Hydreigon and Infernape pretty well while also being a solid wallbreaker that benefits from Absol's ability to trap Gengar and Celebi. Absol also appreciates entry hazard support to wear down threats such as Cobalion and Togekiss, making it easier for Absol to KO them. Good users of entry hazards include Swampert and Klefki. Pokemon such as Terrakion and Heracross that benefit from Absol's ability to provide Pursuit support are also good teammates once it has fulfilled its role in play. Other wallbreakers and setup sweepers that benefit from Mega Absol's ability to remove their checks include Cobalion, Volcanion, Bewear, Suicune, and Mega Slowbro, with the latter two especially being good late-game sweepers and appreciating the removal of Latias and Celebi. Chandelure can check Scizor, Cobalion, and Infernape and function as a good sweeper or wallbreaker with Mega Absol. Nihilego can punish Fairy-types barring Klefki with Sludge Wave, and it appreciates Mega Absol's potential ability to lure in and take down Scizor with Fire Blast. Choice Scarf Latias can check Cobalion and Infernape and provide Healing Wish support to allow Mega Absol to have a shot at sweeping late-game after providing offensive utility early on.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========

Swords Dance is a decent boosting move that Mega Absol can use to sweep, but its lack of bulk leaves it with limited opportunities to set up. Play Rough is a decent coverage option that can hit Heracross, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Mega Altaria, and Terrakion hard. This comes at the cost of important coverage or utility that Mega Absol can provide, however. Ice Beam is also usable coverage move that can deal heavier damage to Hippowdon, Hydreigon, and Mega Altaria, but has little use otherwise. Mega Absol also has access to Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp, allowing it to spread paralysis or burns to cripple threats such as Scizor, but it rarely has the moveslots to use such moves, and its frailty prevents it from being effective as a status spreader.

Checks and Counters
========

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Sylveon, Mega Altaria, Primarina, and Togekiss all care little about most of Mega Absol's attacks barring Iron Tail and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move.

**Revenge Killers**: Choice Scarf variants of Infernape, Hydreigon, and Krookodile can revenge kill Mega Absol relatively easily. Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Manectric are both naturally faster than Mega Absol and can KO it with their STAB moves. Choice Scarf variants of Terrakion can revenge kill Absol and potentially switch into Knock Off and gain an Attack boost via Justified. However, it cannot safely switch into a Superpower or Iron Tail. Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure, Latias, and Gengar can also revenge kill Absol assuming it doesn't carry Sucker Punch. All of the aforementioned Pokemon should be wary of switching into Knock Off, however, as this removes their Choice Scarf and limits their ability to revenge kill Absol.

**Priority**: Due to Absol's frailty, strong priority moves will take it out fairly easily. Scizor, Infernape, and Crawdaunt are all common users of priority moves and can revenge kill it with slight prior damage.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Mega Aggron, Hippowdon, and Suicune have enough bulk to take most of Mega Absol's attacks with ease and can hit it fairly hard in return.

**Fighting-types**: Common Fighting-types such as Infernape, Heracross, and Kommo-o can take Mega Absol's STAB moves well and OHKO it with their own STAB moves. Heracross should be wary of Fire Blast, however.

overview

- mention the competition that it faces with other pursuit trappers like alolan-muk and choice scarf krookodile due to them not taking up a mega slot. (perhaps include the part about absol's strength is in its coverage here)

set

- change the set to

name: All-Out Attacker
move 1: Knock Off
move 2: Pursuit
move 3: Fire Blast / Superpower
move 4: Ice Beam / Iron Tail

- put sucker punch in moves
- i don't think thunderbolt should be mentioned because

252 Atk Absol-Mega Iron Tail vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Primarina: 155-183 (51.4 - 60.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 SpA Absol-Mega Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Primarina: 130-154 (43.1 - 51.1%) -- 3.9% chance to 2HKO

so i'd get rid of that.

- i think play rough should go in OO it pretty much only provides good neutral coverage for absol. it isn't too great outside of that since kommo-onium got banned and it's really hard to justify over the other slots.

set details

- in the last point just mention if its mixed since ice beam is now on the main set.

team options
- pokemon that can pivot which bait in pursuit weak mons should definitely be mentioned here like infernape, mienshao and rotom wash. rotom wash helps absol by checking gliscor / beating gliscor (if it isn't running ice beam)

- mention stuff that's effective at wearing down bulky pokemon like taunt toxic gliscor which helps mega absol trap / break with its coverage. in return absol is capable of luring opposing gliscor with ice beam.

- mention win conditions that aren't fighting types like suicune, but still appreciate absol's ability to beat celebi / lati etc.

- remove the sucker punch mention from the azu / prim thing

- mention pokemon which can punish fairy types like nihilego are fantastic and in return absol offers the ability to beat scizor and gliscor etc.

---
sd

moves
generalise superpower to hit fighting types and dark types (then mention specifics, otherwise it seems like it only hits these pokemon. do this everywhere unless it really is mon specific. think ice beam for gliscor, for example) and providing good neutral coverage whereas iron tail is fairy specific. (pun intended)

usage tips
- setting up against mantine isn't rly the best idea because scald / haze instead mention something like celebi.

team options

- in my experience i've found toxic spikes users like tentacruel and nidoking to be a great way of wearing down absol's checks in addition to being able to switch into some of them.

- breakers that share similar checks (think crawdaunt or flash cannon / iron tail hydreigon) make it a lot easier for mega absol to sweep.

---

checks and counters

- priority users need a section (weak to cb azu jet, cb scizor bp, mach punch, vacuum wave...you get the idea)

- the fighting types you listed aren't actually great examples of answers to absol. coba takes a crap load from superpower and fire blast and terrak takes a crap load from superpower and is only really comfortable against it if it's running scarf. the bewear here is fine though, perhaps mention kommo-o too (despite the z crystal being banned i doubt it's gonna go back to c since its got some pretty cool tools now).

1/3

edit: hey dude whenever you see this, choice scarf terrak would fall under revenge killers and not fighting types

hey amcheck here, feel free to wait for qc input before implementing anything
[OVERVIEW]

* Mega Absol has a great offensive typing, and is relatively fast and strong (Expand on the fast point by saying it can outspeed and threaten common Pokemon like Latias, Gengar, and even Serperior, meaning it doesn't have to rely on Sucker Punch that much. Remove strong here as well, as it contradicts with that you say later when saying it's weak without a Swords Dance boost.)
* Has a really good movepool with strong STAB such as Knock Off and Sucker Punch which give it good utility, as well as very good coverage with moves like Superpower, Iron Tail, and Fire Blast to deal with some of its checks, and Pursuit gives it great utility as a trapper. (I'm not sure about the organisation here; moving Pursuit with the Dark-type STAB moves keep it separate from coverage moves. I would also add Iron Tail to coverage moves.)
* Can set up with Swords Dance, or go for an All-Out Attacker set as a revenge killer and trapper (Remove this point and add access to Swords Dance to the previous point, as it's repetitive and the sets are expanded on later.)
* Magic Bounce is a very good ability that can repel T-Wave and Will-O-Wisp as well as potentially dissuade entry hazard use by bouncing hazards back. (Say that while this is a good ability to have, it is Absol's ability only after it Mega Evolves, so it can't switch in to block hazards/status moves if it hasn't had a turn to Mega Evolve. I would also replace Will-O-Wisp with Toxic, as the most viable user of Will-O-Wisp, Rotom-W, isn't in the tier any more.)
* These make Absol a solid sweeper and revenge killer on offense
* It's insanely frail and is very vulnerable when setting up
* Kind of weak without an SD boost since it can't hold items to boost power and its moves are somewhat weak
* Fairy, Bug, and Fighting weaknesses are pretty bad and make it susceptible to mons like Cobalion, Infernape, and Primarina.
* Faces a lot of competition from Alolan Muk and Krookodile since they do not occupy the Mega Slot, Absol's coverage becomes its main selling point here. (Cynde's check said to specify Choice Scarf Krookodile, so do that. Tjis point also doesn't say that it faces competition from them as Pursuit trappers.)
* It's a good Pokemon, but you should be wary of its frailty and slight lack of power which can hinder it. (Remove this point; you've already fully expressed this in the overview.)

Moves
========

* Knock Off serves as a reliable, strong STAB move for Absol that can also remove items. (Mention key items here, such as Blissey's Leftovers, Doublade's Eviolite, and Amoonguss's Black Sludge if not Poisonium Z. Magic Bounce also means it can't be hit by Spore.)
* Sucker Punch is a relatively strong priority move that can hit faster Pokemon such as Mega Beedrill, Mega Aerodactyl, and Choice Scarf Latias relatively hard. (Sucker Punch isn't actually on the set so you would put this last.)
* Pursuit is a good move to effectively "trap" threats such as Latias, Starmie, Rotom-Wash, etc that attempt to switch out in fear of Knock Off or Sucker Punch. (Remove Rotom-W mention here.)
* Fire Blast is a solid move to hit Cobalion, Klefki, and Scizor hard on a potential switch-in, (It also hits Serperior, Breloom, and Amoonguss harder than anything else)
* Superpower on the other hand can hit Hydreigon, Cobalion, and Sharpedo pretty hard if needed (Say that because Absol's Attack and Defense are lowered, it is likely to be KOed or forced out after using this. I would also remove Cobalion because Fire Blast hits it harder; use Terrakion instead.)
* Ice Beam is a good option to bypass Gliscor, who walls Absol otherwise, and can also hit Hydreigon decently hard on the switch-in
* Iron Tail on the other hand hits Mega Altaria and Togekiss very hard, but lacks much use otherwise

Set Details
========

* EVs are invested primarily in Attack and Speed to maximize Absol's capabilities as an attacker and revenge killer
* Justified can allow Absol to switch into a potential Knock Off or a Choice locked Hydreigon before Mega Evolving and gain an Attack boost, which can be used to its advantage
* Naive nature is ideal if you're going mixed to maximize Absol's Speed, but otherwise, Jolly nature is superior (Explain why it's superior by saying it doesn't mitigate Absol's defenses; also say the nature allows it to outspeed Latias and Gengar.)

Usage Tips
========

* This Absol set is an offensive utility threat: sent it in on something it can potentially check or outspeed, and pressure the opposing team with Knock Off and strong coverage moves (I wouldn't say send it in on something it can outspeed, because that implies hard switching it into an attack, so leave the bringing it in the the final point. Also, mention using Knock Off is useful as early as possible to weaken the opposing team for another sweeper/cleaner.)
* Pursuit is also very useful to trap Latias, Starmie, and the like, so it's ideal to use it to make them much easier to deal with or eliminate them for the team.
* Say when to use coverage moves of choice (generally on predicted switches to checks) because it doesn't want to take any attacks from them and shouldn't stay in after that.
* With this set, Absol won't actually be sweeping full teams, so don't attempt to break past its checks with it. (Instead, try to weaken them as much as possible for another sweeper)
* Absol is frail so be careful when trying to get it into the battle. Cobalion, Rotom-Wash, and Scizor can help get it in more easily with Volt Switch or U-turn. (Remove the Rotom-W mention and also the Cobalion one because Volt Switch isn't commonly seen on it. Also mention free switches and double switches to bring it in on)
* Mention trying to Mega Evolve as soon as possible, especially against defensive teams, to bounce back status and hazards.

Team Options
========

* Scizor is a pretty good teammate since it can use a slow U-turn to get Absol in easily, and has Bullet Punch to deal with Mega Altaria and Togekiss
* Infernape appreciates Absol being able to check Latias and Starmie and can also deal with Cobalion and Klefki pretty well while being a solid wallbreaker and sweeper. It can also use U-turn to get Absol in and effectively trap Starmie and Latias. (It can also outspeed and beat common Dark-types like Hydreigon; also state that it only beats Starmie and Latias if it's Choice Scarf, as they outspeed and OHKO otherwise.)
* Mienshao also appreciates the above, and can break past some of Absol's checks such as Hydreigon and Krookodile, provided Choice Scarf, and can get Absol in with U-turn. (I dont think Mienshao deserves a mention here; it's not very common and if you're using Infernape as a key check to Latias/Starmie, you don't need a second, less relevant, Choice Scarf Fighting-type that lacks a secondary STAB option. If you want to keep it, give it as an alternative with Infernape)
* Rotom-Wash attracts Celebi and Latias, while it can help Absol in with Volt Switch. It can also check Gliscor very well (rip)
* Azumarill and Primarina deal with Hydreigon and Infernape pretty well. The former is also a wincon with Belly Drum and can benefit from Absol pressuring the team with Knock Off and Pursuit, especially the removal of Celebi from play. (Choice Band Azumarill is a lot better than Belly Drum and really appreciates weakened foes so it can revenge kill with Aqua Jet, and depending on matchup, it can also wallbreak for Absol. Belly Drum isn't as relevant, so mention Chpice Band first. Expand on Primarina too and how it can break Dark- and Fighting-types.)
* Win conditions like Terrakion and Heracross are useful to clean after Absol has fulfilled its role in play. Suicune in particular is also a very good win condition who appreciates Absol's ability to check and trap Celebi and Latias.
* Nihilego can punish Fairy-types barring Azumarill with Sludge Wave and appreciates Absol's potential ability to lure in and beat Gliscor and Scizor

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========

* Swords Dance boosts Mega Absol's Attack, making it a suitable wincon late game by giving it amply high power.
* Knock Off is a very strong STAB move coming from Absol, also has the bonus of removing items which makes switching into it much more difficult (Mention key items again, particularly Amoonguss for this one, as the set lacks Fire Blast.)
* Sucker Punch is a relatively strong priority to hit faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Latias, Mega Beedrill, Mega Aerodactyl, and the like hard
* Superpower hits Dark- and Fighting-types such as Cobalion, Hydreigon, and Krookodile hard while providing good neutral coverage overall with Knock Off and Sucker Punch
* Iron Tail on the other hand is solid for hitting Fairy-types such as Mega Altaria and Togekiss hard, but has very limited use otherwise

Set Details
========

* Max Attack and max Speed are necessary for maximum sweeping capability
* Justified is the most potentially useful ability Absol has before Mega Evolving, since it can allow Absol to switch into a predicted Knock Off or Dark Pulse from Krookodile or Hydreigon and gain an Attack boost, giving it a better start off the bat
* Jolly Nature is vital to maximize Absol's Speed and makes it faster than a large portion of the metagame (Gengar, Latias, Cobalion, Serperior; it also ties with Mega Houndoom.)

Usage Tips
========

* This Absol set is a sweeper or late-game cleaner, and is meant to sweep mid or late-game. (As such, it should be brought in freely to preserve its HP.)
* Therefore, it's advised that you wear down the opposition and Absol's checks with teammates, particularly wallbreakers such as Heracross
* Using Absol to pressure its own checks with Knock Off early game can also be useful (It can be useful but it can also weaken Absol, putting it in range of revenge killers and stopping it from being able to sweep.)
* Set up against Pokemon that Absol can force out, such as Latias after a Draco Meteor use. Absol finds it setup opportunities on forced switches. Passive threats such as Blissey and Celebi are also good setup fodder (I wouldn't call Celebi passive because the Nasty Plot set is becoming more and more common, instead mention Amoonguss, because it can't be afflicted by Spore due to Magic Bounce. Would also link Magic Bounce to Blissey by saying it can only heal or use Seismic Toss)

Team Options
========

* Entry hazard support is very good for helping Absol sweep. Klefki can provide Spikes, as well as potentially Dual Screens or paralysis, all of which can facilitate Absol's ability to sweep, Dual Screens in particular making it easier for Absol to set up a Swords Dance boost.
* Hippowdon, Cobalion, and Swampert are also reliable users of hazards, namely Stealth Rock
* Toxic Spikes is a very good hazard to use since poison damage is good at wearing down some of Absol's checks such as Primarina. Tentacruel and Nidoking can take on the likes of Scizor, Klefki, and Togekiss, and Nidoking in general can wallbreak very well for Absol overall
* Choice Band Scizor is a solid teammate since it can revenge kill Mega Altaria and get Absol in with U-turn, while being a good wallbreaker in general wearing down some of Absol's checks such as Mega Aerodactyl
* Pokemon such as Azumarill or Primarina themselves can handle some of Absol's other checks, such as Choice Scarf variants of Hydreigon and Infernape.
* Using another Dark-type in tandem with Absol, such as Crawdaunt or Hydreigon with Flash Cannon or Iron Tail, can lure in and wear down common checks and counters such as Togekiss and thereby facilitate a sweep in the late-game
* Volt Switch or U-turn from Pokemon such as Rotom-Wash is also very useful. Rotom-Wash can check Azumarill, Primarina, and Togekiss with its offensive variant (rip Rotom; remove this point because you mention U-turn with Choice Band Scizor already)
* Potentially mention Choice Scarf Latias as a partner because it checks Fighting-types and can provide Healing Wish support, which means Absol can weaken threats early-game with Knock Off and then sweep late-game.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========

* Pretty wide range of offensive options that could be usable but otherwise outclassed or situational
* Cynde also said to add Play Rough here so do that
* Calm Mind can be workable with Absol's decent Special Attack and movepool, but it's too frail to set up well (It's worse than Swords Dance because it provdes less immediate power and comes off a weaker stat, by simply saying it's too frail to set up confuses people as to why the Swords Dance set is viable)
* It has Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp to spread paralysis or burns to the opposing team, crippling threats such as Scizor or the like. Absol will rarely have the moveslot for these, however, and is too frail to be an effective status spreader otherwise.

Checks and Counters
========

**Fairy-types** Azumarill, Primarina, and Togekiss all care little about most of Mega Absol's attacks barring Iron Tail and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move. Azumarill can also use Absol as setup bait with Belly Drum. (Also mention Mega Altaria here)

**Revenge Killers** Choice Scarf variants of Infernape and Hydreigon resist Sucker Punch and can outspeed and KO Absol with ease. Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Manectric are both naturally faster than Absol and can take a Sucker Punch, and can KO with their STAB moves. Choice Scarf variants of Terrakion can revenge kill Absol and potentially switch into a Knock Off and gain an Attack boost via Justified. However, it cannot safely switch into a Superpower or Iron Tail.

**Priority** Due to Absol's frailty, strong priority moves will take it out fairly easily. Scizor, Mamoswine, Infernape, and Crawdaunt are all common users of said moves and can revenge kill it with slight prior damage. (Mach Punch Breloom too)

**Physically Bulky Pokemon** Mega Aggron, Hippowdon, and Suicune have enough bulk to take most of Mega Absol's attacks with ease, and can hit it fairly hard in return. (Elaborate on Suicune with Scald burns nullifying its offensive prowess)

**Fighting-types** Bewear, Heracross, and Kommo-o can take Absol's STAB moves well and OHKO it with their own STAB. Heracross should be wary of Fire Blast, however. (Give more viable examples of Fighting-types in Cobalion, Breloom, and Infernape. Keep Heracross., though)

I'm back on this. I had to take some time to skim through this and update it for the current metagame now (namely removing Pokemon who aren't legal in the tier anymore), and removed the Swords Dance set leaving the All-Out Attacking set as the only set in the analysis. This should be ready for more checks now.

[OVERVIEW]

* Mega Absol has a great offensive typing, and is relatively fast, being able to outspeed the likes of Serperior, Latias, and Gengar. - delete serp mention, replace with like cobalion or something, and pure dark is not a great offensive typing. Absol being pure dark type is a good bit of why it's so outclassed, and by the way, you should mention in the first line that it struggles in the underused metagame, rather than implying that it's great.
* Has a really good movepool with strong STAB such as Knock Off and Pursuit which give it good utility, as well as very good coverage with moves like Superpower, Iron Tail, and Fire Blast to deal with some of its checks, and Pursuit gives it great utility as a trapper - don't oversell absol, remove great
* Magic Bounce is a very good ability that can repel T-Wave and Will-O-Wisp as well as potentially dissuade entry hazard use by bouncing hazards back
* These make Absol a solid choice for a revenge killer and offensive trapper -it's not a solid choice; please rephrase this to accomodate
* It's insanely frail and difficult to get into the battle - its frailty coincides with it being easily revenged by priority attackers; mention this
* Kind of weak since its moves are somewhat low in power and it can't hold any item to really boost its power
* Fairy, Bug, and Fighting weaknesses are pretty bad and make it susceptible to mons like Cobalion, Infernape, and Mega Altaria
* Faces a lot of competition from Assault Vest Alolan Muk and Choice Scarf Krookodile as a Dark-type Pursuit trapper since they do not occupy the Mega Slot and have more bulk to work with, Absol's coverage becomes its main selling point here over its competition in such role. - absol's power and its speed (without needing a scarf) are its main selling points over other dark-type pursuit trappers. Mention that their secondary typings are also things they have over Absol.

* Pursuit is a good move to effectively "trap" threats such as Latias, Starmie, Celebi, etc that attempt to switch out in fear of Knock Off or Sucker Punch (Pursuiting starmie is risky as shit unless you have revealed sucker, consider replacing it with chandy or gengar or smth)

* Superpower on the other hand can hit Hydreigon, Terrakion, and Sharpedo pretty hard if needed
* Ice Beam is a good option to bypass Gliscor, who walls Absol otherwise, and can also hit Hydreigon decently hard on the switch-in (no gliscor no ice beam)
* Iron Tail on the other hand hits Mega Altaria and Togekiss very hard, but lacks much use otherwise (fix this now that it's the main slash)
* Sucker Punch can serve decently as a priority move but is shaky due to relying on the opponent attacking (and thus being prediction-based) and is resisted by a multitude of common Pokemon such as Hydreigon and Krookodile.

Set Details
========

* Naive nature is ideal if you're going mixed to maximize Absol's Speed, but otherwise, Jolly nature is superior
* Ideally, maximizing Absol's speed is necessary to allow it to outspeed Serperior, Gengar, and Latias, while tying with Starmie and Mega Houndoom (delete serp)
(Add a bullet on Magic Bounce here; do specify that it cannot take advantage of this ability reliably, however, as it takes heavy damage from any attack from most hazard setters and can't ohko them usually)

Usage Tips
========

* This Absol set is an offensive utility threat: send it in early in the game, and pressure the opposing team with Knock Off and strong coverage moves (Do please note not to just willy-nilly fire off attacks that aren't koing foes; absol wants to pursuit trap shit so try to keep it healthy if it's needed for that.)
* Absol's coverage moves are useful for punishing its potential switch-ins, such as Hydreigon, Terrakion, and Gliscor, possibly weakening them for teammates that have trouble with such Pokemon.
* Pursuit is also very useful to trap Latias, Starmie, and the like, so it's ideal to use it to make them much easier to deal with or eliminate them for the team (If you can, try to specify to play carefully when Pursuit trapping a potential foe. not-yet-Choice-locked Choice Scarf Latias and Chandelure beat Mega Absol easily unless absol carries Sucker Punch, and most of the threats Absol wants to Pursuit trap can OHKO it if they stay in on Pursuit. Read the situation, and make the correct play from there. Sometimes it's best to knock or sucker if you have it. Specifically mention that unless you have revealed Sucker Punch, do not try to Pursuit trap Starmie, as you speed tie with it and are ohkoed by it.)
* Absol won't be sweeping full teams, so don't attempt to break past its checks with it. Ideally you will want to use it to weaken threats it traps or some of its own potential checks to enable another sweeper to clean through the team.
* Absol is very frail so be careful when trying to get it into the battle. Cobalion, Infernape, and Scizor can help get it in more easily with Volt Switch or U-turn. (this is EXTREMELY important for the use of absol so make this the first or second point; most of the mons you'll be trapping will be from double switching into them or coming in from a volt switch or u-turn. Also, leave the specific examples for Team Options, just state that it wants to come in via aggressive double switching, revenge killing, or a teammate's U-turn or Volt Switch)

Team Options
========

* Scizor is a pretty good teammate since it can use a slow U-turn to get Absol in easily, and has Bullet Punch to deal with Mega Altaria and Togekiss (Add a sentence before this to just mention Volt Switch and U-turn users in general and give more generic examples before delving into Scizor. Specifically mention Rotom-C as a partner, which can lure in Latias and Celebi and pivot out with Volt Switch so Absol can trap them. Mention that Scizor brings in Chandelure, one of Absol's common Pursuit targets.)
* Infernape appreciates Absol being able to check Latias and Starmie and can also deal with Cobalion and Klefki pretty well while being a solid wallbreaker and sweeper. It can also use U-turn to get Absol in and effectively trap Starmie and Latias, and can also deal with Dark-types such as Hydreigon and Krookodile if using a Choice Scarf (Absol is about the shakiest Starmie check imagineable unless carrying Sucker. Either specify this or cut starmie. I'd rather specify, personal)
* Primarina can deal with Hydreigon and Infernape pretty well, and in general provide as a wallbreaker that can break through Dark- and Fighting-types
* Win conditions like Terrakion and Heracross are useful to clean after Absol has fulfilled its role in play. Suicune and Mega Slowbro in particular are also very good win condition who appreciates Absol's ability to check and trap Celebi and Latias. (Heracross isn't the go-to example of a "win condition"; it's a stallbreaker and a wallbreaker. Rephrase this to, instead of saying "win conditions", say "Pokemon that enjoy Pursuit support to trap threats like Latias and Chandelure and Gengar" or something, and include more examples like Cobalion, Volcanion, and perhaps Bewear.)
* Chandelure can potentially check Scizor, Cobalion, and Infernape and can function as a good wallbreaker or sweeper with Mega Absol
* Nihilego can punish Fairy-types barring Klefki with Sludge Wave and appreciates Absol's potential ability to lure in and beat Gliscor and Scizor (No gliscor)
* Choice Scarf Latias makes a good check to Cobalion, Infernape, and other Fighting-types and can provide Healing Wish support to allow Absol a shot at sweeping late-game after providing offensive utility with Pursuit early on

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========

* Pretty wide range of offensive options that could be usable but otherwise outclassed or situational (This adds nothing; find examples or remove. Ice beam could go here.)
* Calm Mind can be workable with Absol's decent Special Attack and movepool, but it's too frail to set up well and such a set is overall weaker than physical sets due to Absol's lower Special Attack stat.
(i have never seen this in my life and i am absolutely sure that this is not viable in the slightest)
* Swords Dance is also a decent set up move that Absol could use but it lacks the opportunities to really use it due to its frailty
* Play Rough is a viable option to hit Heracross, Hydreigon, and Terrakion. It lacks moveslots for it, however. (add mega altaria and kommo-o to list of targets)
* It has Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp to spread paralysis or burns to the opposing team, crippling threats such as Scizor or the like. Absol will rarely have the moveslot for these, however, and is too frail to be an effective status spreader otherwise.

Checks and Counters
========

**Fairy-types** (add "Fairy-types like"; there are more fairies than just these.) Sylveon, Mega Altaria, Primarina, and Togekiss all care little about most of Mega Absol's attacks barring Iron Tail and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move. Azumarill can also use Absol as setup bait with Belly Drum. (God this is old)

**Revenge Killers** Choice Scarf variants of Infernape, Hydreigon, and Krookodile can revenge kill Mega Absol relatively easily. Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Manectric are both naturally faster than Absol, and can KO with their STAB moves. Choice Scarf variants of Terrakion can revenge kill Absol and potentially switch into a Knock Off and gain an Attack boost via Justified. However, it cannot safely switch into a Superpower or Iron Tail. (Mention Choice Scarf variants of Latias, Chandelure, and Gengar being capable of outspeeding and OHKOing mega absol unless the Mega Absol carries sucker punch, as well as how the other Choice Scarf users don't want to hard into knock off.)

**Priority** Due to Absol's frailty, strong priority moves will take it out fairly easily. Scizor, Infernape, and Crawdaunt are all common users of said moves and can revenge kill it with slight prior damage.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon** (add "Pokemon like"; these are not the only physically bulky Pokemon that can threaten Mega Absol.) Mega Aggron, Hippowdon, and Suicune have enough bulk to take most of Mega Absol's attacks with ease, and can hit it fairly hard in return.

**Fighting-types** (add "Fighting-types such as"; these are not the only fighting-types that can threaten Mega Absol.) Infernape, Heracross, and Kommo-o can take Absol's STAB moves well and OHKO it with their own STAB. Heracross should be wary of Fire Blast, however.

I implemented the check and wrote it. Took a bit of time since the metagame shifted a lot since I last touched this but yeah it's ready for a third check now.

One of the best Megas design wise.

Wings of Disaster

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Absol has a niche in the Underused metagame as a fast offensive trapper, being able to utilize its relatively high Speed and good movepool consisting of Pursuit and Knock Off in order to outspeed and trap threats such as Latias and Gengar. It also boasts solid coverage with moves such as Superpower, Iron Tail, and Fire Blast to hit some if its switch-ins such as Terrakion, Sylveon, and Scizor. Magic Bounce is a decent ability as well, which can give Absol the capability to bounce back Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp as well as potentially dissuade entry hazard use by bouncing back such hazards. However, Absol is immensely frail, which makes it very difficult to get into battle safely as well as very vulnerable to priority. It is somewhat weak overall as its moves have somewhat low power, and it cannot hold any items to boost its damage output. Its typing also leaves it with three very common weaknesses, leaving it vulnerable to popular threats such Cobalion, Scizor, and Mega Altaria. Finally, Absol also faces major competition as a Pursuit trapper from Alolan Muk and Krookodile, since they do not occupy a Mega Slot and have more bulk and a strong secondary typing to give them defensive utility as well as extra coverage offensively. (this isn't really true, they don't have "extra" coverage since absol still has 2 slots for good coverage, but they just have better coverage, so change this word.) As such, Absol's combination of power, speed, and coverage become its main selling points over its competition: make sure to take advantage of these traits well to ensure Absol doesn't become outclassed.

Moves
========

Knock Off functions as a strong, reliable STAB move for Absol that can also remove items such as Blissey's Leftovers and Doublade's Eviolite. Pursuit is another important move that comprises Absol's niche, allowing it to trap threats such as Latias, Chandelure, and Celebi that attempt to switch out in fear of Knock Off or Sucker Punch. Fire Blast is a good coverage move to hit Cobalion, Klefki, and Scizor hard on a potential switch-in. Superpower on the other hand is an alternative that hits Hydreigon, Terrakion, and Sharpedo hard if necessary. Finally, Iron Tail functions as a useful coverage move that hits Fairy-types such as Togekiss and Mega Altaria effectively. Sucker Punch, however, can be a useful priority move to revenge kill Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias, as well as picking off weakened Mega Manectric and Mega Aerodactyl.

Set Details
========

Maximum EV investment in Attack and Speed is necessary to maximize Absol's capabilities as an attacker and revenge killer. Justified is a good ability prior to Mega Evolution that can allow Absol to switch into a Choice-locked Krookodile or Hydreigon before Mega Evolving and gaining an Attack boost, which can work to its advantage. A Naive nature is ideal if you're going to run Fire Blast, but a Jolly nature will be better if not. Ideally, maximizing Absol's potential speed is necessary in order to allow it to outspeed Gengar and Latias, while allowing it to tie with Starmie and Mega Houndoom. Magic Bounce is Mega Absol's only ability and can be used to bounce back status and entry hazards, but keep in mind that Absol's immense frailty prevents it from taking advantage of the ability reliably since it has a very shaky matchup against many of UU's hazard setters, such as Cobalion.

Usage Tips
========

Absol functions mainly as an offensive utility threat: send it in early or mid-game and use its coverage, Knock Off, and Pursuit to pressure the opposing team. Since it is very frail, it should not switch into anything and needs support to get in safely: double-switching with prediction or U-turn and Volt Switch support is useful to help it get into battle. Absol should be used to Pursuit trap threats such as Latias, Gengar, and Chandelure, so it should remain healthy if its trapping abilities are needed. Absol's coverage moves are useful for punishing its potential switch-ins, such as Hydreigon and Terrakion, possibly weaking them for teammates that have trouble with said Pokemon. If Absol is carrying Sucker Punch in particular, it is wise to play carefully when trying to Pursuit trap certain Pokemon: Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias not locked into a move can easily revenge kill and defeat Absol if it doesn't click Sucker Punch, while they can survive a Pursuit if they stay in. So in some situations, it may be better to use Knock Off or Sucker Punch to get the KO. When using Absol, read situations carefully to win potential mindgames with it and win against Pokemon it is supposed to check. In particular, it is advised against Starmie not to use Pursuit against it unless you have revealed Sucker Punch (also mention scarf latias, since it's another big one). Absol does not sweep teams on its own, so it is best used to weaken its potential checks and trap certain Pokemon to support its team.

This Absol set is an offensive utility threat: send it in early in the game, and pressure the opposing team with Knock Off and strong coverage moves
* Since Absol is immensely frail, it should not be switching into anything and needs support to get in safely. It should come in through double-switching or Volt Switch/U-turn support.
* Absol also wants to be able to Pursuit trap threats such as Chandelure and Latias, so it should stay healthy if its trapping duties are needed
* Absol's coverage moves are useful for punishing its potential switch-ins, such as Hydreigon and Terrakion, possibly weakening them for teammates that have trouble with such Pokemon.
* If Absol carries Sucker Punch, play carefully when trying to Pursuit trap certain Pokemon. Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias can easily defeat Absol if locked into the right move, and sometimes they can win if they stay in on Absol, so it may be best to use Knock Off or Sucker Punch. Play the situation carefully and make the right move based on what you think the opponent will do. With Starmie, do not try to trap it unless Sucker Punch was revealed.
* Pursuit is also very useful to trap Latias, Starmie, and the like, so it's ideal to use it to make them much easier to deal with or eliminate them for the team
* Absol won't be sweeping full teams, so don't attempt to break past its checks with it. Ideally you will want to use it to weaken threats it traps or some of its own potential checks to enable another sweeper to clean through the team. (remove this whole part since it seems the written up version is above)

Team Options
========

Absol appreciates U-turn and Volt Switch support to help it get into battle more safely. Rotom-C is a particularly good candidate since it can lure on Celebi and Latias, both targets for Absol to trap. Scizor is also a solid teammate since it can use a slow U-turn to get Absol in more easily, and it also has Bullet Punch to take down Mega Altaria and Togekiss. Infernape appreciates Absol's ability to check Latias and Starmie, assuming Absol carries Sucker Punch. It can also use U-turn to help Absol enter battle, and can check Hydreigon and Krookodile if it carries a Choice Scarf. Primarina can deal with Hydreigon and Infernape pretty well, while also being a solid wallbreaker that benefits from Absol's ability to trap Gengar and Celebi. Pokemon that benefit from Absol's ability to provide Pursuit support such as Terrakion and Heracross are also good teammates once Absol has fulfilled its role in play. Suicune and Mega Slowbro in particular are good win conditions that can sweep after Absol has eliminated Latias and Celebi, and other Pokemon such as Cobalion, Volcanion, and Bewear can wallbreak or sweep after Absol has removed their answers as well. Chandelure can check Scizor, Cobalion, and Infernape and can function as a good sweeper or wallbreaker with Mega Absol. Nihilego can punish Fairy-types barring Klefki with Sludge Wave, and appreciates Absol's potential ability to lure in and take down Scizor with Fire Blast. Choice Scarf Latias can check Cobalion and Infernape and provide Healing Wish support to allow Absol to have a shot at sweeping late in the game after providing offensive utility early on.
give a line somewhere here for hazard setters, which can help absol with breaking through stuff like togekiss and cobalion

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
========

Ice Beam is a usable coverage move that can deal heavier damage to Hippowdon, Hydreigon, and Mega Altaria, but has little use otherwise. Swords Dance is a decent boosting move that Absol can use to sweep, but its lack of bulk leaves it with limited opportunities to set up. Play Rough is a decent coverage option that can hit Heracross, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Mega Altaria, and Terrakion hard. This comes at the cost of important coverage or utility that Absol can provide, however. It also has Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp to spread paralysis or burns to cripple threats such as Scizor, but it rarely has the moveslots to use such moves, and its frailty prevents it from being effective as a status spreader. (make swords dance first OO option and put play rough after, then ice beam.)

Checks and Counters
========

**Fairy-types** Fairy-types such as Sylveon, Mega Altaria, Primarina, and Togekiss all care little about most of Mega Absol's attacks barring Iron Tail and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move.

**Revenge Killers** Choice Scarf variants of Infernape, Hydreigon, and Krookodile can revenge kill Mega Absol relatively easily. Justified is a good ability prior to Mega Evolution that can allow Absol to switch into a the respective Dark-type moves from Pokemon like Choice-locked Krookodile or and Hydreigon before Mega Evolving and gaining an Attack boost, which can work to its advantage. A Naive nature is ideal if you're Mega Absol's going to run Fire Blast, but a Jolly nature will be better if not. Ideally, maximizing Absol's potential Speed is necessary in order to allow it to outspeed Gengar and Latias, (RC) while allowing it to tie with Starmie and Mega Houndoom. (a point like this feels like it would fit better when you were mentioning maximizing its capabilities as a revenge killer.) Magic Bounce is Mega Absol's only ability and can be used to bounce back status and entry hazards. (AP), but However, keep in mind that Mega Absol's immense frailty prevents it from taking advantage of the ability reliably, (AC) since it has a very shaky matchup against many of UU's hazard setters, such as Cobalion.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Absol functions mainly as an offensive utility threat; (ASC) : (RCol) send it in early-(AH) or mid-game and use its coverage, Knock Off, and Pursuit to pressure the opposing team. Since it is very frail, it should not switch directly (prevents this from contradicting the last point.) into anything and needs support to get in safely. (AP) Double-(RH)switching with prediction or U-turn and Volt Switch support is are useful to help it get into battle. Mega Absol should be used to Pursuit trap threats such as Latias, Gengar, and Chandelure, so it should remain healthy if its trapping abilities are needed. Mega Absol's coverage moves are useful for punishing its potential switch-ins, such as Hydreigon and Terrakion, possibly weakening them for teammates that have trouble with said Pokemon. If Mega Absol is carrying Sucker Punch in particular, it is wise to play carefully when trying to Pursuit trap certain Pokemon; (ASC) : (RCol) Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias not locked into a move can easily revenge kill and defeat Mega Absol if it doesn't click Sucker Punch, (RC) while they can survive a take Pursuit if they stay in. So in some situations, it may be better to use Knock Off or Sucker Punch to get the KO. When using Mega Absol, read situations carefully to win potential mindgames mind games with it and win against Pokemon it is supposed to check. In particular, it is advised not to use Pursuit against Starmie and Choice Scarf Latias not to use Pursuit against it unless you have revealed Sucker Punch. Mega Absol does not sweep teams on its own, so it is best used to weaken its potential checks and trap certain Pokemon to support its team.

Team Options
========

Mega Absol appreciates U-turn and Volt Switch support to help it get into battle more safely. Rotom-C is a particularly good candidate, (AC) since it can lure on in Celebi and Latias, both targets for Mega Absol to trap. Scizor is also a solid teammate, (AC) since it can use a its slow U-turn to get Mega Absol in more easily, and it also has Bullet Punch to take down Mega Altaria and Togekiss. Infernape appreciates Mega Absol's ability to check Latias and Starmie, assuming Absol it carries Sucker Punch. It Infernape can also use U-turn to help Absol enter battle, (RC) and can as well as check Hydreigon and Krookodile if it carries a Choice Scarf. Primarina can deal with Hydreigon and Infernape pretty well, (RC) while also being a solid wallbreaker that benefits from Mega Absol's ability to trap Gengar and Celebi. Mega Absol also appreciates entry hazard support to wear down threats such as Cobalion and Togekiss, making it easier for Absol it to KO them. Good users of entry hazards include Swampert and Klefki. Pokemon such as Terrakion and Heracross that benefit from Mega Absol's ability to provide Pursuit support such as Terrakion and Heracross are also good teammates once Absol it has fulfilled its role in play. Suicune and Mega Slowbro in particular are good win conditions that can sweep after Absol has eliminated Latias and Celebi, and other Pokemon such as Cobalion, Volcanion, and Bewear can wallbreak or sweep after Absol has removed their answers as well Other wallbreakers and setup sweepers that benefit from Mega Absol's ability to remove their checks include Cobalion, Volcanion, Bewear, Suicune, and Mega Slowbro, with the latter two especially being good late-game sweepers and appreciating the removal of Latias and Celebi. Chandelure can check Scizor, Cobalion, and Infernape and can function as a good sweeper or wallbreaker with Mega Absol. Nihilego can punish Fairy-types barring Klefki with Sludge Wave, and it appreciates Mega Absol's potential ability to lure in and take down Scizor with Fire Blast. Choice Scarf Latias can check Cobalion and Infernape and provide Healing Wish support to allow Mega Absol to have a shot at sweeping late in the game late-game after providing offensive utility early on.

Other Options
========

Play Rough is a decent coverage option that can hit Heracross, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Mega Altaria, and Terrakion hard. This comes at the cost of important coverage or utility that Absol can provide, however. It Mega Absol also has access to Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp, (AC) allowing it to spread paralysis or burns to cripple threats such as Scizor, but it rarely has the moveslots to use such moves, and its frailty prevents it from being effective as a status spreader.

Checks and Counters
========

Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Manectric are both naturally faster than Mega Absol, (RC) and can KO it with their STAB moves. Choice Scarf variants of Terrakion can revenge kill Absol and potentially switch into a Knock Off and gain an Attack boost via Justified. However, it cannot safely switch into a Superpower or Iron Tail. (imo, this large bit about choice scarf users should be after the first mention of them to help it flow better, but your call.)

**Priority** Due to Absol's frailty, strong priority moves will take it out fairly easily. Scizor, Infernape, and Crawdaunt are all common users of said priority moves and can revenge kill it with slight prior damage.

**Physically Bulky Pokemon** Pokemon like Mega Aggron, Hippowdon, and Suicune have enough bulk to take most of Mega Absol's attacks with ease, (RC) and can hit it fairly hard in return.

**Fighting-types** Common Fighting-types such as Infernape, Heracross, and Kommo-o can take Mega Absol's STAB moves well and OHKO it with their own STAB moves. Heracross should be wary of Fire Blast, however.

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Absol has a niche in the UU as a fast offensive trapper that's able to utilize its relatively high Speed and good movepool consisting of featuring Pursuit and Knock Off to outspeed and trap threats such as Latias and Gengar. Mega Absol also boasts solid coverage, (AC) with moves such as Superpower, Iron Tail, and Fire Blast allowing it to hit some if its switch-ins such as Terrakion, Sylveon, and Scizor. Magic Bounce is a decent ability as well, giving Absol the capability to bounce back Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp as well as potentially dissuade the use of entry hazards use by bouncing them back. However, Absol is immensely frail, which makes it very difficult to get into battle safely as well as very vulnerable to priority. It is somewhat weak overall, (AC) as its moves have somewhat low power, and it cannot hold any items to boost its damage output. Its typing also burdens it with three very common weaknesses, leaving it vulnerable to popular threats such Cobalion, Scizor, and Mega Altaria. Finally, Absol also faces major competition as a Pursuit trapper from Alolan Muk and Krookodile, since they do not occupy a Mega slot, have more bulk, and also have strong secondary typings to give them defensive utility as well as better coverage offensively. As such, Thus, Absol's combination of power, speed, and coverage become its main selling points over its competition; make sure to take advantage of these traits well to ensure Absol doesn't become outclassed.

Finally, Sucker Punch functions as a useful priority move to revenge kill Choice Scarf variants of Chandelure and Latias as well as pick off weakened Mega Manectric and Mega Aerodactyl, (comma) while Iron Tail is a viable alternative that provides useful coverage move that hits Fairy-types such as Togekiss and Mega Altaria super effectively.
