[1v1] Jirachi [QC 3/3] [GP 0/1]

dusk raimon

Banned deucer.
Overview

Jirachi is an interesting pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, relying on outspeeding and flinching the opponent for a win, because with Serene Grace both of Jirachi's stabs, Iron Head and Heart Stamp, gain a 60% chance to flinch. It has a good defensive typing in Steel and Psychic, being able to take on common threats such as Tapu Lele and Kyurem-Black. Jirachi does not need to soley rely on its ability to flinch the whole time, as it can outspeed and 2HKO offensive pokemon such as Porygon-Z and Mega Lopunny. The access to Trick in its movepool allows it to cripple bulkier pokemon not holding Z-Stones or Mega Stones and easily defeat them, such as Chansey. Certain good matchups like crustle and mega-venusaur are still more unreliable than other Pokémon’s good matchups since they still rely on flinches. Jirachi's high speed stat lets it outspeed the entire unboosted metagame in tandem with Choice Scarf.

Moves

Iron Head is the main move of the set, and is very spammable. Provided RNG is in your favour you can flinch opponents such as Tapu Koko and Primarina into submission. Heart Stamp is the secondary stab, and is preferred to zen headbutt for the increased accuracy and flinch chance. It allows Jirachi to have a better matchup versus Charizard Mega-X or Y, once again provided RNG is in your favour. Trick allows Jirachi to cripple bulkier pokemon such as Chansey and Porygon2 and easily flinch them into submission. Fire Punch allows Jirachi to hit steel types which are unlikely to be flinched to death such as Ferrothorn, Genesect, Mega Scizor and Magnezone

Set Details

Max speed and max attack with a jolly nature is run to maximise the damage output and speed of Jirachi, reducing the amount of flinches needed to win, and also being fast enough to outspeed and flinch the pokemon it needs to such as Tapu Fini and Kyurem-Black. Choice Scarf allows Jirachi to outpace a majority of the metagame including threats such as Tapu Koko and Jumpluff, giving Jirachi an opportunity to win via spamming its flinching moves. Serene Grace is the main reason Jirachi is able to function as well as it is, giving its stabs the ability to flinch opposing pokemon into submission

Usage Tips

At team preview look if the opponent has any bulky steels which resist both stabs, or a pokemon which can easily OHKO Jirachi such as Mega Charizard, as its unlikely you will flinch every time to get the win versus these pokemon, although it is possible. As it is a choice pokemon, its easy to use, just click the appropriate flinch move and pray, or use the coverage move to hit resistances to the stabs

Team Options

Garchomp is a very good team mate, being able to outspeed and OHKO both Charizard Mega evolutions easily, as well as beating bulky steels such as mega metagross and aegislash which could trouble Jirachi. Kyurem-Black likewise is very good for the same reasons. Heatran is also a good team mate, as it deals with offensive fire types like Mega Charizard-X or Y which can trouble Jirachi, in return for Jirachi beating fighting types which trouble Heatran. Charizard Mega-X or Y are both good options for dealing with bulky steels which are annoying for Jirachi to face, such as mega metagross, aegislash, celesteela, mega mawile

Strategy Comments

Other Options

Special Jirachi with Calm Mind is usable, however its outclassed by the choice scarf set, and other pokemon such as Tapu Lele which perform the role of bulky offensive special Psychic pokemon better. The only reason special is remotely good is because phsyical scarf is expected.

Checks and Counters

Strong offensive Fire types: Pokemon such as Mega Charizard-X or Y are able to easily OHKO Jirachi
Bulky steel types: Pokemon such as celesteela and Mega Metagross take barely any damage from Jirachi's stabs, and even with fire punch it can not really touch them, and is easily defeated
Bulky Pokemon: Bulky pokemon which take 4 or more flinches to take out from Jirachi are unfavourable match ups for Jirachi, such as mega gyarados

sup. not qc, but a few things to say and possibly add in;

Overview

-Jirachi is an interesting pokemon in the 1v1 metagame, relying on outspeeding and flinching the opponent for a win
-With Serene Grace both of Jirachi's stabs, Iron Head and Heart Stamp, gain a 60% chance to flinch (I'd reword this to include the information from the point above; you're basically just elaborating with a new point here. You've grasped that the main selling point of jirachi is flinch, which you expand on in the moves section either way. I'd remove this point or mesh it in with the first point.)
-It has a good defensive typing in Steel and Psychic, being able to take on common threats such as Tapu Lele and Kyurem-Black
-Jirachi does not need to soley rely on its ability to flinch the whole time, as it can outspeed and 2HKO offensive pokemon such as Porygon-Z and Mega Lopunny
-The access to Trick in its movepool allows it to cripple bulkier pokemon not holding Z-Stones or Mega Stones and easily defeat them, such as Chansey
-It has decent coverage options in its movepool, such as fire punch and ice punch to hit potential threats to Jirachi (I'd remove this point. While Jirachi does have a few good coverage options, none of them can do anything which the standard set won't already do. Ice punch, which I'd imagine would be for Garchomp / Landorus, doesn't ko either of them. All other coverage options don't really do anything which flinch spam won't have a shot at.)
-Jirachi is very RNG based, as if you don't get flinches then you won't win, but if you do flinch then you're far more likely to win (Not entirely true. You can win without flinching every time, you can even win some matchups without flinching at all. Plus, this is basically just a repeat of the first point. I'd remove it.)

Moves

-Iron Head is the main move of the set, and is very spammable. Provided RNG is in your favour you can flinch opponents such as Tapu Koko and Kyurem-Black into submission. (I'd replace Kyurem-Black with something else that would typically beat Jirachi without any flinching, since you should win vs Kyurem without a plethora of flinches either way. You want to be really emphasising on Jirachi's abiliity to flinch almost anything to death. Something like Primarina or Donphan would fit here better, personally.)
-Heart Stamp is the secondary stab, and is preferred to zen headbutt for the increased accuracy and flinch chance. It allows Rachi to have a better matchup versus Charizard Mega-X or Y, once again provided RNG is in your favour
-Trick allows Jirachi to cripple bulkier pokemon such as Chansey and Porygon2 and easily flinch them into submission
-Fire Punch allows Jirachi to hit Ferrothorn, Genesect and Scizor for a decent chunk of HP allowing it to bypass those would be checks (You're not wrong, but the main niche which fire punch has is that it hits steels in general which resist both stabs, and can't really be flinched to death. I'd reword this to something like "Fire Punch allows Jirachi to hit steel types which are unlikely to be flinched to death such as Ferrothorn, Genesect and Mega-Scizor".)

Set Details

-Max speed and max attack with a jolly nature is run to maximise the damage output and speed of Jirachi, reducing the amount of flinches needed to win, and also being fast enough to outspeed and flinch the pokemon it needs to (Pokemon it needs to flinch such as...? Give one or two examples. This is an analysis after all!)
-Choice Scarf enhances the speed of Jirachi further allowing it to outspeed faster pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Jumpluff that would otherwise defeat it (This could sound a little more analysis-like. Something like "Choice Scarf allows Jirachi to outpace a majority of the metagame including threats such as Tapu Koko and Jumpluff, giving Jirachi an opportunity to win via spamming its flinching moves".)
-Serene Grace is the main reason Jirachi is able to function as well as it is, giving its stabs the ability to flinch opposing pokemon into submission

-As it is a choice pokemon, its easy to use, just click the appropriate flinch move and pray, or use the coverage move to hit resistances to the stabs
-Trick is useful for crippling bulky stall pokemon such as Chansey (Don't need this point, you cover this in the moves section)

Team Options

-Garchomp is a very good team mate, being able to outspeed and OHKO both Charizard Mega evolutions easily, as well as beating bulky steels such as mega metagross which could trouble Jirachi
-Kyurem-Black likewise is very good for the same reasons (If it's good for the same reasons, just put it in the same point)
-Heatran is also a good team mate, as it deals with offensive fire types which can trouble Jirachi, in return for Jirachi beating fighting types which trouble Heatran
-Charizard Mega-X or Y are both good options for dealing with bulky steels which are annoying for Jirachi to face (Examples here. Celesteela, Mega-Metagross, Mega-Mawile, Aegislash are all good mons to mention.)

Other Options

-Special Jirachi is usable, however its outclassed by the choice scarf set, and other pokemon such as Tapu Lele which perform the role of bulky offensive special Psychic pokemon better. (Emphasise that it's calm mind, not something like specs)

Checks and Counters

Strong offensive Fire types: Pokemon such as Mega Charizard-X or Y are able to easily OHKO Jirachi ()
Bulky steel types: Pokemon such as celesteela and Mega Metagross take barely any damage from Jirachi's stabs, and even with fire punch it can not really touch them, and is easily defeated
Primarina: Primarina can deal huge amounts of damage to Rachi with its Z-Water move (The z move isn't the issue here, it's the amount of times you need to flinch to win. Almost anything with a z move is capable of knocking out Jirachi, what makes Primarina (and fini) different is that they require many more flinches to win against, unlike something which is a bit easier to whittle down such as koko. I would change this to something along the lines of "bulky pokemon" or something vague like that. Anything that requires 4 or more flinches is rather unfavourable for Jirachi.)
Faster Scarfers: Faster or equivalent speed scarfers, such as victini, can not be flinched if they outspeed, and can easily defeat Jirachi since it relies on flinching
I've probably missed some stuff, i'm tired ;-; good stuff though! keep in mind i'm not an official qc, these are just my thoughts

Overview

Combine first two points which will explain in one sentence why is it a flinch-happy Pokemon
Mention that Steel/Psychic isn't a bad offensive typing it allows it to hit a lot of Pokemon for neutral damage while only being resisted by Steel-types.
Remove coverage point and last point.
Remove the coverage point

Moves
Add Pokemon that Jirachi would lose to if it doesn't flinch them in Iron Head such as Donphan, Primarina, Tapu Fini.
Heart Stamp allows Jirachi to have a better matchup against Pokemon that resists Iron Head, like Water-, and Fire-types Pokemon such as....
Reword: "I'd reword this to something like "Fire Punch allows Jirachi to hit steel types which are unlikely to be flinched to death such as Ferrothorn, Genesect and Mega-Scizor"

Set Details
Give examples of Pokemon Jirachi outspeeds with max speed
Reword: "Choice Scarf allows Jirachi to outpace a majority of the metagame including threats such as Tapu Koko and Jumpluff, giving Jirachi an opportunity to win via spamming its flinching moves"

Add Ice punch as an option instead of Trick and mention what it beats.

Mention that the reason to use Special Jirachi is that they expect the Scarf set and that otherwise it’s bad.

Jirachi is good on teams that want a Kyurem counter but also want to have a better chance against mons metagross is worse against like primarina and venusaur.

It’s not even hard to beat Jirachi with Chansey if you use counter. Js.

Perhaps mention that certain good matchups like crustle and mega-venusaur are still more unreliable than other Pokémon’s good matchups since they still rely on flinches.

Implemented! Except for the ice punch thing because ice punch doesn't kill Garchomp or landorus therian or even zygarde, only landorus-I which is not used very much at all and is not worth running ice punch over trick imo

I wanted to clarify here. Have you added anything against GyaradosM because, with its pre-Mega ability of intimidate and incredible bulk as Mega, it can easily 2HKO with EQ, while comfortably tank upto 12 Iron Heads?
