DAYUMN! - An Ubers Warstory

Andy Snype

Mr. Music
What’s up guys? At the time of this match, this match was just to see how this Ubers team fared against other teams for Team Trials. Once the match ended, “DAYUMN!” was all I could say. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the match!

I am Jack Harkness. toybox is someone else.

Battle between Jack Harkness and toybox started!

Rule: Wifi Battle

Okay, so first team that I've seen that uses both groudon and kyogre and isn’t really weather dependent. I like having the rain up though as it helps with Ferrothorn and Rain Dish Tentacruel. Since my Kyogre is scarfed, I’m screwed if he leads with Groudon. My answer to Groudon though is bulky Ghost-Arceus and Giratina, but I don’t feel like risking Dragon Claw so I’ll lead with Arceus and work from there.

toybox sent out Kyogre!
Jack Harkness sent out Arceus-Ghost!
The foe's Kyogre's Drizzle made it rain!

Well, not what I like to see when I expect a Groudon lead.. I don’t want to stay in to take a rain-boosted STAB attack in the face, so I’ll go to Dialga and scout what type it is.

Turn 1

Jack Harkness called Arceus-Ghost back!
Jack Harkness sent out Dialga!

Dialga is exerting its pressure!

The foe's Kyogre used Water Spout!
It's not very effective... Dialga lost 49% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Dialga restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Damn. About 50% so it has to be Specs. He may predict me to attack here though. And if it’s water spout, I’ve got Ferrothorn and Tentacruel and my own Kyogre to help me handle it. I am worried though about his Palkia. In any case, he’d probably expect a Thunder so I think that Jirachi may be Specially Defensive. I”ll just set up Rocks since Fire Blast does shit.

Turn 2

toybox called Kyogre back!
toybox sent out Jirachi!

Dialga used Stealth Rock!
Pointed stones float in the air around toybox's team!
Rain continues to fall!

Dialga restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Okay, as predicted. He switched it in to take an attack, so I’m inclined to think that it’s supposed to take bulky hits and therefore, not a Choiced version with Trick. I'd better take this opportunity to set up Spikes with Ferro.

Turn 3

Jack Harkness called Dialga back!
Jack Harkness sent out Ferrothorn!

The foe's Jirachi used Thunder Wave!
Ferrothorn was paralyzed!
Rain continues to fall!

T-Wave. Guessing Iron Head, Wish, Protect/Fire Punch/Ice Punch. I’m not worried about Fire Punch since Rain is up, so I’ll just set up Spikes since I’m predicting Groudon…

Turn 4

toybox called Jirachi back!
toybox sent out Giratina-O!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Giratina-O!

Ferrothorn used Spikes!
Spikes were scattered all around the feet of toybox's team!
Rain continues to fall!

or maybe… not quite yet? I’m not sure what he wants to do. Maybe he wants to WoW so I’d have trouble with Ogre? Probably best to stay in and Leech Seed.

Turn 5

The foe's Giratina-O used Substitute!
The foe's Giratina-O made a substitute!

Ferrothorn used Leech Seed!
The foe's Giratina-O's Substitute blocked Leech Seed!
Rain continues to fall!

Crap. Sub + what? Mixed? Again, stay in to Scout. Probably try to set up a layer?

Turn 6

The foe's Giratina-O used Calm Mind!
The foe's Giratina-O's Special Attack rose!
The foe's Giratina-O's Special Defense rose!

Ferrothorn is paralyzed! It can't move!
Rain continues to fall!

Fuck. I need Ferrothorn for Kyogre. I’ve got to phaze ASAP. Dialga can probably take its hits really well.

Turn 7

Jack Harkness called Ferrothorn back!
Jack Harkness sent out Dialga!

Dialga is exerting its pressure!

The foe's Giratina-O used Aura Sphere!
It's super-effective! Dialga lost 62% of its health!
Dialga fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

Goddamn it. His 4th is probably Shadow Ball, which I doubt Arceus can live, and I’d really like it for Jirachi and Groudon. Giratina is on the same boat. Kyogre is going to be the main offense of this team. Ferro I’ll need for Leech Seed and help handle Kyogre. Tenta to set up Toxic Spikes and Spin. The team desperately relies on degeneration, so I’ll have to go to Tentacruel, sac it, and hope that I can leave him without a sub up.
Jack Harkness sent out Tentacruel!

Turn 8

Tentacruel used Toxic Spikes!
Poison spikes were scattered all around the feet of toybox's team!

The foe's Giratina-O used Calm Mind!
The foe's Giratina-O's Special Attack rose!
The foe's Giratina-O's Special Defense rose!
Rain continues to fall!

I kinda figure most people would Ice Beam here, but if I’m going to have any chance at keeping myself alive, I’ve got to get the layer up. He’s got no spinner. Now to break his subs.

Turn 9

Tentacruel used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! The foe's Giratina-O's substitute took the damage!

The foe's Giratina-O used Shadow Ball!
Tentacruel lost 61% of its health!
Tentacruel's Special Defense fell!
Rain continues to fall!

Tentacruel's Rain Dish heals it!
Tentacruel restored a little HP using its Black Sludge!

Okay, the Sp. Def drop doesn’t matter now since Tenta is virtually dead.

Turn 10

Tentacruel used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! The foe's Giratina-O's substitute faded!

The foe's Giratina-O used Substitute!
The foe's Giratina-O made a substitute!
Rain continues to fall!

Tentacruel's Rain Dish heals it!
Tentacruel restored a little HP using its Black Sludge!

Just keep beaming! Just keep beaming! Beaming, beaming beaming beaming...

Turn 11

Tentacruel used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! The foe's Giratina-O's substitute took the damage!

The foe's Giratina-O used Shadow Ball!
A critical hit! Tentacruel lost 63% of its health!

Tentacruel fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

Okay. Tenta down and it did its job, except for the fact that the sub is still up =[. He may have some defensive investment since Giratina doesn’t outspeed a whole lot so I’m going to hope I live the Shadow Ball with Kyogre and can Ice Beam away. It doesn’t look like I’m missing much on his team with max damage water spout anyway, given he’s got a Palkia and a Kyogre and Groudon for Drought. I'll just have to play around Jirachi.

Jack Harkness sent out Kyogre!

Turn 12

Kyogre used Ice Beam!
It's super-effective! The foe's Giratina-O's substitute faded!

The foe's Giratina-O used Shadow Ball!
Kyogre lost 76% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Yes! I live! I don’t want to risk him predicting a switch and subbing again, so I’ll just Ice Beam again.

Turn 13

toybox called Giratina-O back!
toybox sent out Jirachi!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Jirachi!

Kyogre used Ice Beam!
It's not very effective... The foe's Jirachi lost 11% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Okay. That thing is going to be a pain in the ass. I don’t want to go to Ferrothorn in case he predicts the switch and goes back to giratina again 9.9 I figure the best guy to go to here is Arceus to WoW and easily outspeed and Judgment it out.

Turn 14

Jack Harkness called Kyogre back!
Jack Harkness sent out Arceus-Ghost!

The foe's Jirachi used Wish!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!

Crap. I don’t want Giratina coming back in now so I’ve got to Judgment again.

Turn 15

Arceus-Ghost used Judgment!
The foe's Jirachi lost 29% of its health!

The foe's Jirachi used Thunder Wave!
Arceus-Ghost was paralyzed!
Rain continues to fall!

Jirachi's wish came true!

Okay… I really wish I wisped there. I guess I’ll wisp him now as he may try to go for the Iron Head Flinch KO (and lately WoW’s been a bitch to me).

Turn 16

The foe's Jirachi used Iron Head!
Arceus-Ghost lost 17% of its health!

Arceus-Ghost used Will-O-Wisp!
The foe's Jirachi was burned!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi is hurt by its burn!

SUCCESS! Anyway, I don’t want to switch so I’ll just Judgment for some damage.

Turn 17

The foe's Jirachi used Wish!

Arceus-Ghost used Judgment!
The foe's Jirachi lost 27% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Jirachi restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Jirachi is hurt by its burn!

Okay he Wishes again. Iron Head will do crappy damage. May as well Judgment.

Turn 18

toybox called Jirachi back!
toybox sent out Kyogre!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Kyogre!
The foe's Kyogre was poisoned!

Arceus-Ghost used Judgment!
The foe's Kyogre lost 39% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Jirachi's wish came true!
The foe's Kyogre is hurt by poison!

Oh fuck… The other guy I didn’t want to see. I’m not risking anything since I’m down Tentacruel and Dialga and go straight to Ferrothorn.

Turn 19

Jack Harkness called Arceus-Ghost back!
Jack Harkness sent out Ferrothorn!

The foe's Kyogre used Water Spout!
It's not very effective... Ferrothorn lost 35% of its health!
Rain continues to fall!

Ferrothorn restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Kyogre is hurt by poison!

Thank you Toxic Spikes. Reducing Water Spout damage helps a lot. Leech Seeding is the best option as I really need the health now.

Turn 20

The foe's Kyogre used Water Spout!
It's not very effective... Ferrothorn lost 30% of its health!

Ferrothorn used Leech Seed!
The foe's Kyogre was seeded!
Rain continues to fall!

Ferrothorn restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Kyogre is sapped by leech seed.
The foe's Kyogre is hurt by poison!

Success, but right now, I don’t really think I want to Seed again. I think Water Spout is safe enough to the point where Giratina can come in and finish off Kyogre next turn with Shadow Sneak and Giratina is at a low enough HP to be sneaked at anyway.

Turn 21

toybox called Kyogre back!
toybox sent out Lucario!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Lucario!

Jack Harkness called Ferrothorn back!
Jack Harkness sent out Giratina-O!
Rain continues to fall!

But it looks like toybox has got his own plans. The last 3 Lucario I saw in Ubers were all specs’d or crappy versions. Based on the way he’s playing, I can assume he’s not running a crappy version since it is currently 4-6 toybox and I am backed against a corner against a Lucario with two deadly partners and a potentially threatening Palkia. If he’s Specs’d, I’m not so worried since I’ve got a Ferrothorn and 2 fighting immune mons alive. If he’s SD’d, that’s fine, I’ll just WoW. Probably best to WoW at any given rate since I’m pretty sure I can live a Crunch.

Turn 22

The foe's Lucario used Crunch!
It's super-effective! Giratina-O lost 51% of its health!
The foe's Lucario is hurt by its life orb!

Giratina-O used Will-O-Wisp!
The foe's Lucario was burned!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Lucario is hurt by its burn!

YES! However, I can’t let Giratina die so easily now since Sneak is what’s going to help save me from a Giratina and a Kyogre sweep and potentially a Palkia save. It’s too important to let it die now. Rachi’s relatively weakened too so I could probably go to Ferrothorn or Seed it. Probably best to Arceus since I don’t need him alive right now.

Turn 23

Jack Harkness called Giratina-O back!
Jack Harkness sent out Arceus-Ghost!

The foe's Lucario used Swords Dance!
The foe's Lucario's Attack sharply rose!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Lucario is hurt by its burn!

Fuck. Predicted the switch nicely. Why didn’t I Dragon Tail with Giratina last turn? I play too cautiously for my own good. Okay then, courtesy of HSA, please hope that Focus Blast hits.

Turn 24

The foe's Lucario used Crunch!
It's super-effective! Arceus-Ghost lost 46% of its health!
The foe's Lucario is hurt by its life orb!

Arceus-Ghost is paralyzed! It can't move!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Lucario is hurt by its burn!

Anyway, I’ve gotta keep Arceus alive. I’d prefer to have as most mons alive as possible. If he Crunches again, I’m pretty sure Iron Barbs, Burn, and LO will kill him off.

Turn 25

Jack Harkness called Arceus-Ghost back!
Jack Harkness sent out Ferrothorn!

The foe's Lucario used Close Combat!
It's super-effective! Ferrothorn lost 57% of its health!

Ferrothorn fainted!
Ferrothorn's Iron Barbs hurts the foe's Lucario!
The foe's Lucario's Defense fell!
The foe's Lucario's Special Defense fell!

Okay, so I have my ass handed to me. 3-5 with no sure way of coming back. If his Palkia’s Scarfed, I am mortally screwed, though he hasn’t sent it out yet so maybe there is the chance that it’s not Scarfed. I’m 88.4% sure that his Groudon is support set with SR since Rachi hasn’t tried to set it up. Giratina is necessary to help handle Palkia and can help get Groudon of the picture. Sneak should take care of everyone else he has and if he tries to switch, D-Tail can help. Arceus can’t WoW out Groudon since T-Spikes are up. All it can do is probably only Judgment. I'm going to rely on Kyogre to be the offense of the team. Sure as hell not going to send him in. Anyway, I’m screwed and the timer's ticking.. Fuck it, sending Arceus again since if Sun’s in the way, I basically lose.

toybox sent out Kyogre!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Kyogre!

Jack Harkness sent out Arceus-Ghost!

And shit. Good bye Arceus, I’m not going to risk Giratina take a potential Ice Beam. You’ve done your job well. But the God of Pokemon shall fall to a whale.

Turn 26

The foe's Kyogre used Surf!
Arceus-Ghost lost 36% of its health!

Arceus-Ghost fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

The foe's Kyogre is hurt by poison!
Jack Harkness sent out Giratina-O!

As per the plan, the best thing is to Shadow Sneak since he's on pretty low HP.

Turn 27

Giratina-O used Shadow Sneak!
The foe's Kyogre lost 8% of its health!

The foe's Kyogre fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

toybox sent out Jirachi!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Jirachi!

BAM! And in comes the Jirachi to avenge his teammate. Iron Head will do shit all. He’ll probably expect me to take the opportunity to switch to Kyogre. So in order to predict him to predict the switch, I’ll Dragon Tail to get something else in here.

Turn 28

The foe's Jirachi used Thunder Wave!
Giratina-O was paralyzed!

Giratina-O used Dragon Tail!
It's not very effective... The foe's Jirachi lost 15% of its health!
Giratina-O was dragged out!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Giratina-O!
Rain continues to fall!

Okay. My only option here is to Sneak since I know he doesn't have it. Bye Giratina.

Turn 29

Giratina-O used Shadow Sneak!
It's super-effective! The foe's Giratina-O lost 25% of its health!

The foe's Giratina-O fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

toybox sent out Jirachi!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Jirachi!

Speaking of, did you hear that the ICONIC Sneak Tournament is going on? I hear it’s a pretty good tourney and hosted by the wonderful ICONIC.

Turn 30

Giratina-O used Shadow Sneak!
The foe's Jirachi lost 0% of its health!

The foe's Jirachi fainted!
Rain continues to fall!

toybox sent out Groudon!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Groudon!
The foe's Groudon was poisoned!

The foe's Groudon's Drought intensified the sun's rays!

Okay, I’m nearly screwed here, but I managed to bring it from a really tough 3-5 to a 2-2. I can do this. He’s sent in Groudon. Why not Palkia? I don’t know, but hey, if this is how the cards are dealt, so be it. Gotta work with whatever poker hand we have. Sneak will do shit, so I’m going to take the gamble that he doesn’t have D-Claw and Draco Meteor it.

Turn 31

The foe's Groudon used Stone Edge!
Giratina-O lost 25% of its health!

Giratina-O used Draco Meteor!
The foe's Groudon lost 71% of its health!
Giratina-O's Special Attack sharply fell!
The sunlight is strong!

The foe's Groudon restored a little HP using its Leftovers!
The foe's Groudon is hurt by poison!

Seriously though, SNEAK looks fun.

Turn 32

Giratina-O used Shadow Sneak!
The foe's Groudon lost 3% of its health!

The foe's Groudon fainted!
The sunlight is strong!

toybox sent out Palkia!
Pointed stones dug into the foe's Palkia!
The foe's Palkia was poisoned!

The foe's Palkia is exerting its pressure!

Well, this is it. First time in the game and the score is finally in my advantage, but unfortunately, it looks like this is how it ends, and now I see he probably wanted to make sure that I was in KO range. Anyway, it looks like it’s game, but I can’t give up yet!

Turn 33

Giratina-O used Shadow Sneak!
The foe's Palkia lost 28% of its health!

The foe's Palkia used Spacial Rend!
It's super-effective! Giratina-O lost 23% of its health!

Giratina-O fainted!
The sunlight is strong!

The foe's Palkia is hurt by poison!
Jack Harkness sent out Kyogre!

Kyogre's Drizzle made it rain!

Okay. Maybe it’s time to give up. Good game toybox. It’s been a load of fun and definitely a challenging Ubers match. Thanks for giving me a bigger challenge than tito could ever hope to achieve.

Turn 34

Kyogre used Thunder!
The foe's Palkia lost 33% of its health!

The foe's Palkia fainted!

Jack Harkness won the battle!

Well, turns out he wasn’t Scarfed after all. Overall though, it was a pretty fun match and I think both sides played really well. Good game toybox!

Props:
  • toybox for making such a good team and giving a good fight with stellar predictions
  • toybox’s Specs Kyogre which made me crap my pants
  • toybox’s Giratina which also made me crap my pants
  • toybox’s Lucario which nearly made me crap my pants
  • Tentacruel for getting the Toxic Spikes up. Key in helping make sure stuff was in KO range.
  • HSA for helping me out with the team.
  • Minimal Luck
  • AeSoft for developing the program that formatted this warstory.

Slops:
  • Me being too predictable and saccing Ferro for the Luke switch
  • Not much really. Battle was well played
  • This event
  • Snunch and uragg for being so bad at ubers to make me play ubers :|

Amazing, amazing, amazing. My few gripes were with some subtle hax, your giratina-o never got fully para'd over quite a few turns, and he definitely should have switched in palkia over groudon. (Also you should have known that sub giratina-o is subcm and gone straight to dialga)

Still an easy 10/10, beautiful format, wonderful play.

Funny thing is that giratina-o was MVP on both teams, with vastly different sets.

Good Warstory. I enjoyed it, at any rate.
But how sure are you that Kyogre held Specs? It looked distinctly like a Modest Scarfogre to me, especially since it seems to have outsped your Arceus. Also, I run a specially defensive Dialga, and if the Kyogre has Specs, you're going to to get 2HKOd. So I think that's actually probably a Scarfogre. Also, a Scarfed Kyogre would make the Palkia not holding a Scarf make a lot more sense; he doesn't seem to have a single Scarfer on the team, an unusual thing in Ubers. Or in general, really.

But anyway, great job stalling him out with the residual damage. We need more Warstories in Ubers; I think I might try to write one at some point.

Storm Vanguard !
Your team is pretty standard, everyone run the same, so you dont have to worry about resultat. Also, he greatly missplayed in midgame/late game, he had the game won with Palkia, too bad.

An okay warstory, 6/10; gg.

PS : SpecsOgre 2hko easily Dialga support, it was obvious he's scarfed.

This battle was the first time I ever encountered the Sub-CM Gira-O, so I didn't have any idea what was going on as this was like my 10th battle and most of the people on the ladder just ran offensive Gira-O, which I assumed it was.

At the time I wrote this, I was still getting introduced to Ubers, and I thought that 50% was the point for determining it was specs'd or not given the EV spread that HSA helped me with. The only editing I did after I originally finished was just updating some of the comments (mainly making the SNEAK ones present tense). Most of this story is written from a couple of months ago though.

Thank you very much for your criticisms and comments guys!

That was good. A few misplays here and there were obvious, but they didn't really detract from the game. It's good to see Ubers warstories being posted, this forum really needs the activity.

Good stuff. I love the presentation, commentary, battle. Everything! I didn't even have to watch the replay since you described the battle so clearly.

I remember this match :p

After the battle, I was hitting myself for not switching into Palkia during the last crucial turns. I guess I had a little brain fart there. Overall, it was a nice match and it was an honor being in this warstory!
