ok yeah. But still, they had an empty seat and he just fills it??? Like now I guess this makes more sense. Palpatine knew that a seat was up and recommended anakin for it.

They could have literally prevented the Sith take over if they said to him then "You're not ready to be a master. Also we don't trust the chancellor. You can be on the council some time later but for right now we'll add another chair so you can observe our decisions in a ceremonial matter"
