Can anyone reccomend a decent action RPG for the PC that's not Sacred / Dungeon Siege / Diablo etc. Also my computer aint the best so I wouldn't progress beyond Oblivion in terms of graphics.

Cheers

Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, Fallout: New Vegas.

i want some games that have great gameplay. like dungeon keeper, deus ex, monkey island, elder scrolls, etc. original shit that captures your imagination. please recommend me some of the good stuff
Minecraft. \o/

If you have a Wii, I spent fucking months playing Monster Hunter Tri. Bioshock/Fallout obviously, the new Elder Scrolls has been announced as well.

On irc a few of us get together and play through various retro games together, makes things a bit more fun when you name characters after one another, atm I'm playing Earthbound with Xaq, and I think there is some Final Fantasy V going on as well.

Looking for some good books. Books I have already read: Slaughterhouse-five (fucking awesome), Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Odyssey, Lolita, Ender's Game, House of Leaves, I'm probably forgetting something, oh yeah Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk (also fucking awesome).

Song of Ice and Fire, Battle Royale, Book of Amber, uh yeah. SoIaF is a kickass series.

Seriously. Read it.

also the elfen lied anime had a retarded cut-off for an ending

also how does fumoffu have a good story when it's a series of funny scenarios with barely any continuity

but yeah, FMP a cool story

Dude Palahniuk is fucking awesome, I suggest you read Lullaby and Invisible Monsters by him. Both are fantastic. Another good book, though a bit on the old side, is Paradise Lost. That is if you're in the mood for an old-time epic poem. Also check out The Oral-Biography of Buster Casey or Rant as it is more commonly known by Chuck Palahniuk.

Try Catcher in the Rye too. Also Things Fall Apart, which is a story about an old African tribe before the English came in and started spreading Christianity. Let me look through my library, one second...

Alice in Wonderland was also fantastic, it was so much better than a movie could ever portray it. In the same respect, Through the Looking Glass was excellent too. Fahrenheit 451, and I'll end this by saying you should also read The Jungle.

Hope you like these suggestions!

EDIT:

Alright yeah 1984 is really good too. Though as Oglemi put out, it is a bit drug-out

BAMF, if you're going to dip into any classics, then I would have to suggest 1984, if not just so you get all the references to it in today's culture. It's kind of drug out, but it's definitely not as bad as Crime and Punishment (though I would still recommend anyone to read both.)

For fun books, Lloyd Alexander was always my favorite alternative author to JK Rowling when I was in middle school.

kotor is a great game but ive played it through too many times! i will look into dragon age. unfortunately i dont have any consoles/any plans to buy any consoles so zelda et al are out of the window. morrowinds a great game and im tempted to replay it but my lasting memory of that game is breaking the shit of of the alchemy system and zooming around doing whatever i want. its a shame that the emergent gameplay that comes from such a complex system is so easily broken in this case.

Ehh, im not sure if you are into his books much, but Brian Jacques is - was - a great author. He wrote a literal crapload of great reads, like 22 or 23 in his main series then 15 outside of that. Just a great author of fantasy.

All the other books in the Ender series (Speaker for the Dead, Children of the mind etc...) are all awesome too. Ishmael is cool if you're into philosophical nonsense.

anyone who has a DS (i'd wager a lot of people here do) and is looking for an rpg or just a game to play is obligated to check out Radiant Historia, one of the best games i have played in the the last 3 or 4 years. beautiful OST, art, characters, and unique story. the mechanics are pretty fun, too.

Read more vonnegut, he is a genius: Breakfast of Champions and Cat's Cradle are both excellent. I will also second Battle Royale, and will add V For Vendetta the graphic novel as good shit. The first and last 100 pages of the Iliad are worth reading if you like the odyssey.

If youre willing to put the time into reading it, the Wheel of Time series is unbelievably well crafted, it is the only fantasy that I can really read anymore and take seriously, the world created is more real than like the shit you read about in nonfiction.

If you like socialist themes (you said you like slaughterhouse-five) then Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna is excellent. Also if you like Punk-rock, Patti Smith's book Just Kids is imo the best thing written in the last year, it chronicles her adolescence in New York during the 60's and 70's. It won the National Book Award in 2010.

@levitatinglamprey: The pheonix manga by tezuka, if you can find it wherever you live, i had to have a friend buy them for me in NY. I generally find most manga to be utter shit in terms of being meaningful, this manga is one of the few that has a 'message' if you will

@monkfish Braid and limbo are great off-kilter puzzle games, the former charming the latter a bizarre psychological oddessy. Fallout 2 with thr fanmade patch is great and planescape if youre interested in a story about demons, spirits and gods with not only a personal mystery but a mystery about grander truths pertaining to the meaning of life and death

@monk Borderlands is absolutely addicting. Any installment of final fintasy tactics is way fun for a tactical RPG. And if you have an emulator try playing super mario rpg legend of the seven stars or paper mario.

@Bad Ass The first three Drizzt books by R.A. Salvatore are some of my favorite of all time; Homeland, Exile, Soujurn. They are fantasy but honestly great.

I second the Legend of Drizzt series. Also, the first Dragonlance Chronicles were a good fantasy read.

Also, monkfish and all others interested:
There was an exploit on KOTOR that let you give the force and lightsabre options etc to any members of your party you chose. I did a playthrough where Mission Vao was a Jedi and so was someone else (I can't remember, maybe Zaalbaar or Canderous lol). Sadly, HK can't do the same glitch :(
